SEAWORK WELCOMES M&CCE The Marine & Coastal Civil Engineering Expo (M&CCE), Europe’s leading event showcasing the latest equipment and techniques in marine civil engineering and construction, is to join Seawork this summer. M&CCE 2019 is to be extended from its previous two-day format to a three-day exhibition co-located, and running concurrently with, the three days of Seawork, Europe’s largest commercial marine exhibition, from 11-13 June 2019. Mercator Media Ltd, organiser of Seawork and a B2B media company of over 30 years standing, recently acquired M&CCE from Prysm Group. James Berryman, Managing Director at Prysm FDE Ltd, said, "This is fantastic news for M&CCE and a vital stepping stone in the growth of the exhibition, we wanted to be certain that the event continued to evolve in the right way, and Mercator Media are renowned for delivering high quality events, media and content in the marine sector, so we are confident that there is nobody better equipped to develop it in the right way. The project team used a combination of specialist access equipment, engineered temporary works and tidal logistics planning to give safe access to all areas of the pier. The project was financed by charitable donations and heritage funding, requiring TMS to work closely with the Pier Trust to manage scope and construction costs to remain within the limited budget.

8 Red7Marine for the Thames Tideway Tunnel project 8 M&CC Expo Best Project Award This award will celebrate marine & coastal engineering projects that stand out for their scale and impressive nature. Submissions for this award could include any marine civil engineering project, from refurbishment and improvement to new build of jetty extensions, breakwaters, port & harbour development and maintenance, dredging, coastline and estuaries, including beach re-profiling and replenishment, coastal flooding and sea level rise, offshore structures, underwater construction, drilling and piling, bridge inspection and repair amongst others. In 2018 winning projects included:

8 TMS Maritime for the Swanage Pier Restoration project Appointed by the Swanage Pier Trust to undertake extensive repairs and restoration of the historic timber pier on the Isle of Purbeck (Dorset).

The pier was constructed in 1895 for the steam ship passenger service and has since suffered extensive marine boring worm damage. TMS scope of work included replacement of many of the worst affected timber piles, including deconstruction of the superstructure and reconstruction in new hardwood structural timbers. The piles were extracted using jack-up barge-based plant, including specialist crane suspended vibratory extraction equipment. During extraction, many of the timber piles broke under the water level, requiring TMS Maritime’s in-house dive team to place the extraction equipment on the remaining pile head under water to complete the extraction.

The project required multiple jack up and floating barges to assist in the construction of the cofferdams to allow tunnelling works to commence. Red7Marine has been involved on the four-billionpound project since the initial site investigation works in 2011. The company has supported construction works for the main three joint ventures building the project – BMB, FLO and CVB as well as various Tier 1 contractors such as BAM Nuttall and Volker Stevin. Early involvement with clients was critical to ensure that the correct approach and methodology was developed to allow Red7Marine’s clients to deliver their construction programmes. Progress on the project has continued and Red7Marine’s barges are still operating on the River Thames, supporting clients at the various site locations.

The company is a technology leader in the design, manufacture and installation of marine aids to navigation. The viewing area will be used throughout Seawork and will give a valuable overview of the visiting vessels and demonstrating craft.
