Dear friends,
Welcome
Thank you for accepting our invitation to pause and celebrate ten years of Mercy House Global! We have so much to be thankful for–even in a challenging year like 2020. We continue to see God’s hand at work as we push deeper into His plan for this ministry. In 2010, when I offered that inadequate and feeble “yes” to God, I had no idea what would happen! I can assure you, I didn’t imagine we would be here today with nearly 60 teen moms, their babies, and thousands of members across five subscription clubs - empowering countless artisans around the world. The last decade has been a beautiful and brutal journey, but together, we are making a difference. Our God is big. I can’t wait to celebrate what He has done with you and invite you deeper into this story.

Mercy House Global Artisans The Fair Trade products featured in our Celebration Event provide dignified jobs in partnership with Mercy House Global
Mercy House has a number of artisan groups in Kenya that create custom product for our online stores and Fair Trade Friday. These groups began as an overflow from Rehema House, the maternity homes we support in Kenya. We realized early in our endeavors of rescuing pregnant teens, we also needed to empower their families with dignified jobs so that we could help break the cycle of generational poverty. Miujiza means “miracles” in Swahili and that’s exactly what this group is. This group is comprised of the mothers/grandmothers of some of the teen moms from the maternity homes who have become expert weavers and ceramicists. Street Hope is made up of sixteen precious women in Mathare slum who begun their lives as artisans on the street. They were totally homeless due to difficult circumstances, many orphaned at an early age and doing whatever necessary to survive. One by one, they learn to hand stitch little felt hearts and moved into their own homes. Have Hope from Kariobungi slum named their Bible Study group in 2010 “Have Hope” because they didn’t have any. They are slowly and faithfully working their way out of poverty, one piece of jewelry at a time. They are diligent to save money as a group and have started multiple small businesses.
Celebrate Product Artisans:
Refugees | Map Art Muna and her family found refuge in Houston in 2019 after escaping war in their home country of Syria. Muna, her son, and her parents left everything they owned to find safety and begin a new chapter in their lives in America. Muna has a natural talent for design and handicrafts. She and her mother are both employed by Mercy House Global. They pay close attention to detail, and they take enormous pride in every project they complete, including this gorgeous map wall art! Refugees | Spa Basket: This basket is a collection of our favorite products made by our local refugee artisans employed by Mercy House Global. These artisans have faced insurmountable odds and found refuge in the United Staes after fleeing their home countries because of war. Mercy House Global is honored to come alongside them to provide part-time work to help them contribute to their families and communities! Azizi Life | Wall Baskets, Hand-Carved Nativity, Ornaments Across the hills of Rwanda, groups of rural artisans are working to bring hope to their families through skillfully handcrafted goods. Azizi Life partners with over 30 independent groups - a total of over 500 artisan partners. Rising from the horrors of genocide, artisans from all backgrounds have joined together once again through their craft. Each artisan cooperative specializes in hand crafting products using specific techniques and raw materials. Azizi Life is honored to partner with these women and men, collaborating to connect makers, designers, and customers around the world. Sobremesa | Caro Caro Board In a small town outside of Antigua, Guatemala, the Artesanos de San Pedro have created a workshop dedicated to the sustainable production of wooden tabletop pieces. Incorporating modern techniques with traditional handcrafted quality, these artisans cut, smooth, and shape each piece of recycled or sustainable woods purchased from Smart Wood Alliance. Artesanos de San Pedro produces Sobremesa’s line of cutting and serving boards and wine toppers.

Sobremesa | Ceramic Dipping Bowl (4.25” D x 1.74” H) This ceramics studio was founded in 2009 and grew out of a love of Mediterranean dishes and the desire to bring them to European and American markets. Colorful mandala-like patterns and bold stripes beautify the ceramic pieces, each one dishwasher and oven safe. Inside the 8,000 square foot studio, over a dozen artisans hand paint each line, dot and stroke of glaze onto the white clay dishes. Committed to the well-being of the artisans, the studio offers permanent contracts, insurance and provides free transportation to and from the studio.
