peace

Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you. John 14:27

Peace is the third Fruit of the Spirit listed in Galatians 5:22-23. Peace is a calmness, an internal stillness. Peace is a promise of God. Peace is what the world desperately needs; it’s what our soul craves.

In the finale of the third season of The Chosen, there is a scene that depicts peace perfectly. It’s a familiar Bible story: Peter is sitting with the disciples in a boat in the middle of a stormy lake. The wind is blowing, the waves crashing, the fear of being upended, real.

The disciples see a form walk towards them on the water. It’s impossible! But they aren’t imagining it; it is Jesus. They had just witnessed the miraculous feeding of the 5000 and now this.

Peter asks Jesus to command him to walk out on the water towards him. Peter steps onto the water, falters for a moment, and begins to sink. Jesus pulls him into the boat and holds the exhausted, wet, and terrified disciple who is clinging to his rescuer. With a commanding voice, Jesus speaks to the wind and waves, “Peace, be still,” and in a split second, the lake becomes eerily calm.

The image of Peter clinging to Jesus desperately, repeating again and again, “Don’t let me go. Jesus, don’t let me go,” shows that Peter can't hold onto his grief, unbelief, or fear and also hold onto Jesus. He has to let it all go, so that he can cling to the only One who can calm the internal and external storms.

This is peace. Peace is a person and his name is Jesus.

philisters

It’s with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we share the news of a death in our Forged in Hope family. Philisters was the production manager overseeing the artisans in Kibera slum. She played a major role in every Forged in Hope product brought to you by MHG.

Those who worked with her describe Philisters as a dependable leader. Philisters used to compare her job overseeing orders for Forged in Hope to “a shepherd entrusted to care and watch over his flock.”

Philisters appreciated that she was able to serve for the greater good and use her Masters Degree in Business Administration to better serve the artisans and improve their quality of work. She once said that the ability to meet her family’s basic needs was a blessing and that she would always be thankful to Mercy House for providing this opportunity. Philisters will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.

WHAT DO WE MEAN BY ETHICAL?

Ethically traded products are crafted by artisans who work in safe conditions, receive a fair wage, and maintain reasonable working hours. No child sacrificed their education to create your new favorite item, and no parent toiled in a sweatshop for 80 hours a week. We ensure that all of our MHG Clubs items are ethically sourced.

HOW ARE MHG CLUBS DIFFERENT THAN OTHER SUBSCRIPTION CLUBS?

MHG Clubs are operated by Mercy House Global, a 501(c)3 charitable organization. All proceeds from MHG Clubs empower vulnerable families in Jesus’ name with opportunities that provide hope.

MHG CLUBS PARTNER WITH FAITH-BASED ARTISAN GROUPS ACROSS THE GLOBE.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

While we are a faith-based ministry and collaborate with other faith-based ministries, religion is not imposed on artisans, nor is it a prerequisite for employment. Many women and their families practice different religions than we do, and that is okay. Our belief in Christ compels us to love, serve, and assist others, irrespective of their personal belief systems.
