2022 VISION OF FAIR TRADE FRIDAY

As we move into the second half of 2022, our intent is to continue enriching your home by featuring high-quality, fair trade items for different rooms throughout your house. Your Fair Trade Friday box will include thematic unity, scripture, and intentional living inspiration with an overall goal of building deeper handmade collections within your home.

HARVEST TIME

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9

Inside every year, there are seasons. Inside every season, there are opportunities to grow. Inside every seed is the potential for an incredible harvest. Every thought is a seed.

There is a time for everything. Autumn lends itself to reaping.

As leaves turn and fall, the earth yields its harvest.

There is this unspoken pressure to produce a bountiful harvest, but the Apostle Paul tells us

"He who supplies seeds to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness." 2 Corinthians 9:10

We are not called to outcomes. We cannot always see the fruit immediately. We are called to obedience- and to faithfulness.

Seeds—like our thoughts—need nourishment and room to grow.

Gardeners grow weary. Hard work, harsh elements, weeds of worry, unexpected storms can wear seed-planters down.

In God’s perfect timing, He will determine the harvest. It’s our job not to give up.

This month, your Fair Trade Friday box was created to carve out space to reflect on the harvest God is producing from your life. Make a cup of tea or coffee, settle into a cozy spot where you can feel the autumn breeze and gaze on the beauty of turning leaves—and thank the Lord of the harvest.

Papillon Marketplace is a fair-trade, socially conscious lifestyle brand dedicated to supporting at-risk mothers and fathers with full-time artisan jobs in Haiti. Papillon’s mission of orphan prevention and family preservation through job creation has proven itself to be a viable solution for the current poverty orphan crisis affecting many developing nations.

Nicholas is an artisan in the slums of Kibera in Kenya. In 2007, he started working with Made Kenya as a supervisor where they made earrings, bracelets, and necklaces. In 2017, when Made Kenya was closed, Nicholas got a loan to start his business and buy his own jewelry-making equipment. He has eight permanent workers and started working for Karama Collection in 2018. Unfortunately, Karama Collection wasn't able to stay in business, so Mercy House Global has begun to support these talented artisans. Nicholas dreams of becoming a big business supplier of jewelry and working to serve others.

Your natural rattan coasters were hand-woven from rattan reeds by the incredible artisans of Bali Harvest. Rattan is a naturally renewable palm that grows in the tropical regions of Asia. The long pliable stems of rattan are harvested from the rainforests then used in the creation of beautifully styled goods.

WHAT IS FAIR TRADE?

Fairly-traded products are made by artisans who work in safe conditions, are paid a fair wage, and work fair hours. No child gave up his education to produce your new favorite item; no mom was laboring in a sweatshop for 80 hours a week. We ensure that all of our Fair Trade Friday club items are fairly traded.

HOW IS FTF DIFFERENT THAN OTHER SUBSCRIPTION CLUBS?

We are not a for–profit company, or even a profit-for-good company — Fair Trade Friday is operated by Mercy House Global, a nonprofit. All profits from FTF directly support our maternal rescue center, Rehema House, in Kenya. You can learn more at mercyhouseglobal.org.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

While we are a faith-based ministry and partner with other faith-based ministries, religion is not forced upon artisans, nor is it a requirement for employment. Many women & their families have different religions than us, and that is okay. Our belief in Christ calls us to love, serve, and help others, regardless of their personal belief systems.
