Fall Hello,

As we move into the second half of 2022, our intent is to continue enriching your home by featuring high-quality, fair trade items for different rooms throughout your house. Your Fair Trade Friday box will include thematic unity, scripture, and intentional living inspiration with an overall goal of building deeper handmade collections within your home.

2022 VISION OF FAIR TRADE FRIDAY

There is beauty in falling. It signifies a new beginning. First this natural phenomenon prepares the earth for winter, and winter leads us to the birth of spring. We can learn a lot from the cycle of nature. Tryon Edwards writes, “One of the great lessons the fall of the leaf teaches is this: do your work well and then be ready to depart when God shall Changecall.”is a part of growth.

Life is full of setbacks and missteps, twists and turns, failures and falls. Trusting God to guide us through life’s changes is yielding to the One who tends and prunes. The Bible teaches us that the great fall of man eventually leads to great redemption through Christ.

The weather will begin to turn soon and daylight will decrease. This changing of the season causes leaves to morph into brilliant new colors before they fall.

Most gardeners rejoice in dying flowers because they understand this is the first step to a future harvest. Sometimes we have to fall to bear fruit. “Believe in your fall, it’s paving a new way for your climb,” explains Angie Weiland-Crosby.

It’s our hope that this month’s Fair Trade Friday prepares your heart and home for the season’s change with the colorful reminder that there is beauty in change. With the cozy saree pumpkin, aromatic pumpkin candle, and oh-so-cute pumpkin tea towel, we are ready to Hello, say:fall, you are welcome. The artisans meet every week in small groups to continue learning and to turn in the beautiful products they have made that week. They soon realize that despite the difficult realities they face, a tiny piece of hope can change everything. As they build community, they learn that they do have worth and purpose and skills—and a small flame of hope sparks. They start believing that they might be good at something; that they might be worth more than they have been told. That is what Asha Project is all about. Hope changes everything!

Your beautiful saree pumpkin was handmade from recycled sarees in India by the talented artisans of Asha Project. Each one is unique, so patterns and colors will vary.

Asha Project is a not-for-profit organization with a passion for teaching women that they are worth more than they may have been brought up to believe, that they have skills and abilities despite what their culture tells them, and that they have a purpose that only they can fulfill.

This order for Fair Trade Friday went through the hands of 15 women from six communities and created 1650 hours of dignified work. Fair Trade Friday members can receive 10% off an online order at ashaprojectindia.com by using the code #FairTradeFriday.

Krishna

Krishna did not know how to sew before joining Asha Project. Early on during her time there, her husband lost his job and their family went into so much debt that they had to sell everything they had–including their home. Because of her work with Asha Project, Krishna was not only able to put food on the table during that time, but she learned that she loves to sew. Through learning new skills, Krishna found a hidden creative side and loves to design new product ideas to show to the Asha team. Krishna has also found a confidence she says she didn't know was possible—a confidence that comes from knowing she can use her own hands to earn money and help provide for her family, a confidence that comes from knowing she has worth and was made for something more.

Daughters of Hope believes that the path to empowerment and dignity begins with training and employment. In India, these things are taking place for some women who did not seem to have a future. With help and a lot of work on their part, these women are now able to care for their families and their futures.

Daughters of Hope

On the day that her husband died, Nirmala had $60 to her name. With no income and three small girls to provide for, she thought that she had come to the end of the line. She attempted to take her own life, but by God’s grace she did not succeed. Nirmala explains, “After coming to Daughters of Hope, I have the confidence to stand up for myself and raise my children. This place is like my mother’s house. I used to think that I had no one in the world, but now I know I’m okay, because I will be at my mother’s house with my family.”

Daughters of Hope is a fair trade, social enterprise based in Southern India that provides training and employment to impoverished women. Daughters of Hope provides not only a safe and healthy work environment, but family support through free childcare, free healthy lunches, savings plans, insurance, etc. The vision of Daughters of Hope is not only to reduce poverty and injustice, but to give dignity and freedom to those who have been caught up in the cycle of economic and social oppression.

HOW

fair_trade_friday fairtradefriday iPhoneAndroid IS FAIR TRADE?

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? While we are a faith-based ministry and partner with other faith-based ministries, religion is not forced upon artisans, nor is it a requirement for employment. Many women & their families have different religions than us, and that is okay. Our belief in Christ calls us to love, serve, and help others, regardless of their personal belief systems. r trade subscription clu TRADE FRIDAY #fairtradefridaybox Use the code WELCOME20 for 20% off your first in-app purchase!
