SHARE THE
Light
October 14, 2021
Dear friends,
Welcome
Thank you for accepting our invitation to pause your busy fall schedule and join us for a special Share the Light event. In 2019, when we chose Shine Shine as the annual theme for Mercy House Global for 2021, we had no idea just how dark the world would feel. “You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine!” Matt. 5:14-16 Mercy House Global belongs to God. From day one, we have depended on His mercy and trusted Him to provide. We continue to say yes, and He continues to use you to meet each and every need. We see God’s hand at work as we push deeper into His plan for this ministry. This week, six more new pregnant girls will have a safe place to become mothers. This month, thousands of artisans will be empowered. This year, we will share the light in the darkness. We will shine.
About Mercy House Global Mercy House Global exists to engage, empower, and disciple women around the globe in Jesus’ name. Through an indigenous staff, we fund the rescue of pregnant girls in Kenya and provide many others with dignified work so we can redeem future generations. We do this by engaging those with resources to say yes to the plight of women in poverty and by empowering women around the world through partnerships and sustainable fair trade product development. Mercy House Global works with artisans in more than 30 countries, providing dignified jobs to thousands every year through Fair Trade Friday subscription clubs, three retails stores in Texas, and two online stores.

Mercy House Global Artisans The fair trade products featured in our Share the Light event provide dignified jobs in partnership with Mercy House Global
Mercy House Global has a number of artisan groups in Kenya that create custom product for our online stores and Fair Trade Friday subscription clubs. These groups began as an overflow from Rehema House, the maternity homes we support in Kenya. We realized early in our endeavors of rescuing pregnant teens that we also needed to empower their families with dignified jobs so that we could help break the cycle of generational poverty. Miujiza | textiles + ceramics Miujiza means “miracle” in Swahili and that’s exactly what this group is. Miujiza is comprised of the mothers/grandmothers of some of the teen moms from the maternity homes. The women of Miujiza have become expert weavers and ceramicists. Street Hope | ornament Street Hope is made up of sixteen precious women in Mathare slum who began their lives living on the street. Some were totally homeless due to difficult circumstances; many were orphaned at an early age and doing whatever necessary to survive. One by one, they learned to hand stitch little felt hearts and moved into their own homes. Have Hope | jewelry + decor Have Hope from Kariobangi slum named their Bible study group “Have Hope” in 2010 because they didn’t have any. They are slowly and faithfully working their way out of poverty, one piece of jewelry at a time. They are diligent to save money as a group and have started multiple small businesses.
Refugees | Candle, tealights Muna and her family found refuge in Houston in 2019 after escaping war in their home country of Syria. Muna, her son, and her parents left everything they owned to find safety and begin a new chapter of their lives in America. Muna has a natural talent for design and handifcrafts. She and her mother are both employed by Mercy House Global. They pay close attention to detail, and they take enormous pride in every project they complete.
Refugees | Spa items (shower steamers, room spray, soap) Our spa products are made locally by the refugee artisans employed by Mercy House Global. These artisans have faced insurmountable odds and found refuge in the United States after fleeing their home countries because of war. Mercy House Global is honored to provide part-time work to help them contribute for their families and communities!
Share the light Artisan Groups Azizi Life | Basket Across the hills of Rwanda, groups of rural artisans are working to bring hope to their families through skillfully handcrafted goods. Azizi Life partners with over 30 independent groups—a total of more than 500 artisan partners. Rising from the horrors of genocide, artisans from all backgrounds have joined together once again through their craft. Each artisan cooperative specializes in handcrafting products using specific techniques and raw materials. Azizi Life is honored to partner with these women and men, collaborating to connect makers, designers, and customers around the world.

Daughters of Hope | Fair Trade pillows, tea towels The vision of Daughters of Hope is not only to reduce poverty and injustice but to give dignity and freedom to those who have been caught up in the cycle of economic and social oppression. Daughters of Hope trains and employs women from the slums in south India who have no other options for employment. Their employees are brought into a loving community where they are given a fair wage, free healthy lunches, childcare, health insurance, and most importantly, an opportunity to rise above their circumstances! Daughters of Hope currently employs more than 50 women who have been freed from the cycle of poverty.
Karama Collection | Leather bag Karama Collection began in 2006 with a single artisan partner in Ethiopia and has since expanded to working with artisans in six countries, affecting over 2,400 artisans and their families. Each purchase provides layers of transformation—yielding individual, community, economic, and eternal impact. Individual lives are changed when offered the opportunity to earn a living wage. Financial prosperity brings personal dignity and cultivates entrepreneurship. Karama is especially committed to marginalized artisans, including women, HIV+ individuals, the disabled, and the extremely poor.
