As a freshman, Sarah Powell learned about a consent loophole in North Carolina sexual assault laws while doing research for a paper. Encouraged by her professor to take action, Sarah helped organize a panel discussion with state legislators, wrote an op-ed for the student newspaper, and connected with local lobbyists working on the issue. Her efforts were a turning point in getting the loophole closed. Because strong doesn’t have time for the status quo.

YOUR PLAN STARTS HERE.
Maybe in some far-off universe every college student knows exactly what she will study. Even more, she knows exactly what she will be when she graduates.
While many students do know their intended major, it’s not surprising that you may not know what you want to study. College is an exciting time of growth and discovery, and we want you to make the most of it.
Because at Meredith, we embrace the real world. Where students may arrive at college not knowing what they want to major in and those who do can change their minds. (In fact, a recent study found more than one in three students changed majors at least once.) We have expert staff and faculty who will help you figure out your plan for the future –including your major – and still graduate on time.
DESIGN YOUR OWN MAJOR
In addition to the majors offered at Meredith, you can design your own major. This option is ideal if you would like to combine course work in several disciplines or pursue a specific topic in depth. Recent examples include Chinese studies, media writing, and art history.
ACCELERATED OPTIONS
98% of alumnae saw important benefits in attending a women’s college.

MIDDLE GRADES TEACHING LICENSURE – SCIENCE
I chose environmental sustainability as my major because my grandfather was a science teacher for 30 years and I thought that was absolutely amazing. It just really included everything that I wanted to do. My strength of individualization really helped me out when I first got into the classroom as a Meredith College Teaching Fellow. I could figure out what every student needed and individualize their education just for them.”

LEARN BY DOING.
Internships are no longer considered optional by most employers. That’s why they are an essential part of the Meredith experience. Most students complete at least one and many do more, with placements starting as early as summer after freshman year.
Internship coordinators in the career center and academic departments work together to find the right placement. And because our students have an exceptionally strong reputation among employers, you’ll have plenty of options to practice what you’ve learned while building your resume.
