Das MOGa – Museum of Oceanic Garbage – soll sich mit Problematiken des starken Müllaufkommens, insbesondere des Plastik- und Ozeanmülls, in der Gesellschaft beschäftigen und eine Plattform für Dokumentation, Kommunikation und Innovation bieten. Das Entwurfsareal befindet sich am, von Industrieanlagen geprägte, Hafengelände „Nordhavnen“ in Kopenhagen, welches nachhaltig erweitert und umgenutzt werden soll. Zwei runde Getreidesilos an der südlichen Wasserkante auf einem geplanten Stadtplatz mit umliegender Blockstruktur werden als Grundlage und Transformationsbausteine verstanden. The MOGa - Museum of Oceanic Garbage - should document and deal with the problems of the big waste production from the society, especially of the plastic and oceanic trash. The MOGa is a place for documentation, communication and innovation. The area of the museum is located at the „Nordhavn“, a waterfront area of Copenhagen which will be a densely built, compact district and also a sustainable city district. Two grain elevators (silos) at the southern water edge on a plannend square are sourrounded by a perimeter block development and understood as the basis for the design and will be transformed.

Zentrale Entwurfsidee ist es den Silos durch die neue Nutzung und einer unterschiedlichen inneren Raumstruktur und Organisation jeweils einen speziellen Charakter zu verleihen. Ein Silo als „konzentrierte, arbeitende Knospe“, kompakt, klar, schlicht und das zweite als „aktive, präsente kommunikative Blühte“, innen offen und verspielt, präsent durch Beziehungen zur Umgebung. Ähnlich wie ein Gegensatzpaar, welches aber an einzelnen Knotenpunkten wieder verbunden und zu einer Einheit wird. The main idea of the design is to give the Silos a new character because of the new function and different inner structure and organization. One Silo should be compact, clear, simple as an „working bud“ and the other Silo as a „active, present and communicative bud“ which is sportive, open inside and also present because of relations to the area. There should be a contrast between these two bodies that are connected on some intersections so that there can be one functional unit.

Das östliche Silo enthält eine geordnete Struktur und Grundrissgestaltung, die sich der kreisrunden Form des Silos anpasst. Der aus dem Zentrum gerückte runde Erschließungskern bestimmt die formelle Aufteilung und ermöglicht unterschiedlich nutzbare und große Bereiche. Gezielte Lufträume verknüpfen die Geschosse und lockern die Raumatmosphäre auf. Neben der Ausstellung sind der Konferenzbereich, Werkstätten/Lager, die Verwaltung und die Stipendiatenwohnungen untergebracht, die unabhängig voneinander durch den Erschließungskern erschlossen werden können. Das Café und die Dachterrasse mit dem Blick über das Wasser schließen das Silo nach oben hin ab. The eastern silo obtains an ordered structure and floor plan design that adapts the circular shape of the silo. A round access core, moved from the center, defines the formal layout and enables different usable and large areas. The levels are linked because of some specific „air spaces“ and to loosen up the atmosphere. The exhibition, the conference area, the studios, the administration and also the flats for the scholar are accommodated into this silo. All the functions can be independently accessed by the access core. The cafe finalizes the building together with the view on the water from the roof terrace.

Das westliche Silo mit Foyer und größten Teil des Museums, sowie Seminarräumen ist im Inneren von einer dynamischen Struktur geprägt, welche sich spiralförmig an der Silowand entlang nach oben hin entwickelt und wiederholt die Wand nach außen aufbricht. Die Struktur entfaltet sich mit steigender Höhe in alle Himmelsrichtungen, sodass es an drei Punkten als Verbindung zwischen den Silos fungiert und sich dem Besucher schon aus Entfernung präsentiert. Außerdem verändert sich mit steigender Höhe der Blick auf das Areal. Die Struktur wird als große repräsentative Rampe mit ihren Plattformen und Stegen selber zum Ausstellungsobjekt. Großzügige Lufträume und unterschiedliche Raumsituationen ermöglichen spontane Begegnungen und räumliche Verbindungen. The western silo which contains the foyer and largest part of the museum and the lecture rooms is characterized of a dynamic structure which dominates the inside and is spirally going up along the silo wall. The structure breaks the wall a few times to the outside and developes in all directions so that the view on the surroundings changes by increasing hight. The structure is present for the visitors from the distance and at three points the structure serves as a connection the eastern silo. The structure is a kind of represented ramp with different platforms and becomes an exhibition object by herself. spontaneous encounters and spatial connections are possible because of generous „air spaces“ and variable space situations.
