MASTER THESIS PROJECT

THIRD -AND ONLY- PLACE Year:

2021 (Feb - June)

Site:

Ringwood (Melbourne)

Supervisor:

Vicky Lam

This masters thesis project aims to interrogate new alternatives of expressing and strengthening public life in an outer suburban context. The research is set to recall and interrogate patterns of third places, a prosaic spatial idea beyond our first (home) and second (work) places. The proposal consists of a new town hall, an extension of a train station bridge, an articulated library edge and a civic square as a site for Ringwood’s new third place.

CATALOGUE OF THIRD PLACES Beyond the canons of successful public spaces, everybody has memories of third places of their own. Everybody has a personal catalogue of third places.

A place shaped by comfort, access and neutrality.

A levelling and convesation-encouraging public amenity,

A low-profile place of convenience, constantly open for users.

A diversely used “foyer of everything”.

A place building on local economy and cultural potentials.

The street is perceived as a living room for all.

MASTERS STUDIO PROJECT

BETWEEN SKY AND WATER Year:

2019 (Feb - June)

Site:

Chennai, India

Supervisors:

Mauro Baracco Imogen Fry

Project won ‘Architectural Design Excellence’ award at National University of Singapore’s Designing Resilience in Asia (DRIA) International design competition. (Group award) This studio project aims to propose architectural, ecological and social rehabilitation strategies for Chennai. The future vision of the city tackles droughts, flooding and rapid urbanisation by targeting an equilibrium between natural and urban systems. The solutions are performative, dynamic, unstable, flexible, fragile thus resilient.

Proposed city strategies view

Boardwalk system for outdoor classroom.

Sequence of micro wetlands for landfill edge regeneration. The vision is to change the perception of the value of the natural environment, which hasalways been seen as an endlessly exploitable space. Rather than covering up the landfill and building walls to stop encroachment, the incorporation of natural regeneration in an economical strategy offers resilient future for both the wetland and the city.

GOWANUS FIELD STATION Year:

2015

Site:

Brooklyn, NY, USA

Supervisor:

Liz Brogden

International Design Competition Project: “Axis Civitas” Sponsor: Gowanus by Design This project aims to map and rehabilitate Brooklyn’s Gowanus borough, North America’s most polluted site. Through mapping a series of overlays of existing architectural conditions, the proposed research facility, marketplace and urban wetland adheres to the theme of ‘residual architecture’ and adaptability principles in a rapidly transforming urban environment.

2016

Site:

Nudgee Beach, QLD

Discipline:

Landscape architecture

Presented at landscape architecture firm ‘Mode’ (Brisbane) as part of best end-of-semester projects selection (QUT), June 2016. In this landsacpe design project, the repurposing of an under-utilized environmental school grounds threatened by sea level rise adheres to resilient strategies. The outdoor classrooms aim to respond to unique site conditions, resonate with a target user-group of school-aged children, establish connection between site configuration and existing teaching schedule and consider a minimum 50 year span of the environment’s changing context.

Site:

The Grange, Brisbane, QLD Multi-residential townhouse project, completed in 2018

Roles in this work experience project included assisting interior design through interior documentation and creating client-directed marketing issue. The provision of a large range of townhouse types required flexible documentation through nested Revit joinery families with control over embedded parametres. Creation of a marketing plan set from a large range of Revit models required efficient transfer and control of graphics properties.
