RMIT Masters of Architecture Thesis Project This masters thesis project aims to interrogate new alternatives of expressing and strengthening public life in an outer suburban context. The research is set to recall and interrogate patterns of third places, a prosaic spatial idea beyond our first (home) and second (work) places. The proposal consists of a new town hall, an extension of a train station bridge, an articulated library edge and a civic square as a site for Ringwood’s new third place.

BETWEEN SKY AND WATER RMIT STUDIO PROJECT 2019 S u p e r v i s o r s : Mauro Baracco Imogen Fry Year: Site:

2019 (Feb - June) Chennai, India

Project won ‘Architectural Design Excellence’ award at National University of Singapore’s Designing Resilience in Asia (DRIA) International design competition. This studio project aims to propose architectural, ecological and social rehabilitation strategies for Chennai. The future vision of the city tackles droughts, flooding and rapid urbanisation by targeting an equilibrium between natural and urban systems. The solutions are performative, dynamic, unstable, flexible, fragile thus resilient.

10

Between Sky and Water - RMIT Studio Project - 2019

Landfill gas extraction system for energy generation.

Boardwalk system for outdoor classroom.

Sequence of micro wetlands for landfill edge regeneration. The vision is to change the perception of the value of the natural environment, which hasalways been seen as an endlessly exploitable space. Rather than covering up the landfill and building walls to stop encroachment, the incorporation of natural regeneration in an economical strategy offers resilient future for both the wetland and the city.

Facade porosity analysis

This project aims to map and rehabilitate Brooklyn’s Gowanus borough, North America’s most polluted site. Through mapping a series of overlays of existing architectural conditions, the proposed research facility, marketplace and urban wetland adheres to the theme of ‘residual architecture’ and adaptability principles in a rapidly transforming urban environment.

Landscape architecture

Year: Site:

2016 Nudgee Beach, QLD

Presented at landscape architecture firm ‘Mode’ (Brisbane) as part of best end-of-semester projects selection (QUT), June 2016. In this landsacpe design project, the repurposing of an under-utilized environmental school grounds threatened by sea level rise adheres to resilient strategies. The outdoor classrooms aim to respond to unique site conditions, resonate with a target user-group of school-aged children, establish connection between site configuration and existing teaching schedule and consider a minimum 50 year span of the environment’s changing context.
