Physical Fitness Firefighters completed 723 hours of fitness Since implementation of program – overall department average level of fitness has gone from fair to good level Mandatory Cooper testing performed twice a year and voluntary testing for two more Personalized goals established for anyone under 60% level.

Insurance Services Office ISO Rating – Class 2 Merriam is 1 of 4 fire departments in Kansas with a Class 2 rating.
Rating scale is Class 1-10 (Class 1 is best and 10 is worst)
Grants Heart of America Fire Chief smoke alarm grant which included hearing impaired smoke alarms KFIP smoke alarms and Carbon Monoxide Alarms received. Administered through KDH&E. (100 smoke and 100 CO) We requested $182,000 from FEMA for replacement of SCBA but did not get it
Grants We received a $60,000 FEMA grant for replacement of our 4 severe weather sirens ď&#x201A;&#x17E; We received a MARC grant for 7 Severe Weather signs that were installed in our parks ď&#x201A;&#x17E;

Town Pavilion Stair Climb Firefighters climbed 110 stories in remembrance of 9/11/01 firefighters Raised approximately $17,000 for NFFF 65 Fire Departments from 6 states participated
Community Outreach ď&#x201A;&#x17E;
Assisted in raising approximately $4,000 for stockings for Soldiers in Afghanistan
Community Outreach Firefighter II Joe Chizmar and Captain Kenny Mikulich worked closely with MDA at both the camp and with boot block fundraising efforts raising $2,794 Master Firefighter Steve Parke assisted Shawnee FD and Merriam PD in the Polar Bear Plunge raising funds for Special Olympics Bob Pape served in Merriam Kiwanis We assisted HD Lee with raising their Pink Ribbon for cancer awareness campaign
Community Outreach Master Firefighter David Gardner now has two pink fire trucks as part of Guardians of the Flame. He tours the Mid-west each year as part of the Pink Heals Tour to raise funds and awareness for women with cancer.
