6th EUROBIKE AWARD 2010 A bike for seniors only – as if! E-bikes or motorized bicycles are now experiencing a boom with the younger generation as well. A number of experts are already predicting that 2010 will be the year of the e-bike. And that’s no wonder because there has never before been such a huge range of models: there’s everything from stylish city runabouts to folding bikes and right on up to crosscountry mountain bikes. Riding an e-bike to work is just the cool thing to do – no more expensive fuel costs and no more traffic jams. And embarrassing perspiration marks on your business outfit are also a thing of the past. The entire bicycle industry can begin to get excited because the resulting potential of winning over a new target group for the bicycle is enormous.
Anyone who hits the streets riding a retro bike is also a trendsetter – many manufacturers now have some very nice, old-fashioned models in their product lineup once again: cruisers, Dutch bikes or banana bikes. At first glance, they might look like they’ve already spent 50 years in a museum, but modern color schemes and the use of high-end components, for the gears, for example, transform them into coveted style icons on the urban street scene. All in all, the array of bike models and accessories is getting bigger, but more widely diverse and more confusing at the same time. The seal of quality, the EUROBIKE AWARD, which is going into its sixth round this year, gives consum-

ers a sense of orientation in the bicycle sector, shows them what is innovative and functional or environmentally friendly and sustainable. Over the past few years, it has developed into an outstanding marketing instrument for the bicycle industry. We are happy to be able to send you the participation package for the EUROBIKE AWARD 2010 today. Messe Friedrichshafen, the host of this design and innovation prize, and we from iF, as the organizer of the event, look forward to receiving entries from companies and designers from all over the world. On the following pages, you will find an overview of which products can be entered in which category. In the “Concepts”
category students are invited to take part with designs of products that have not yet been realized and studies. Students can participate free of charge. The EUROBIKE GREEN AWARD will be presented for the third time to a product exhibiting particular ecological and sustainable value. An internationally renowned jury of experts will evaluate the best products in the bicycle industry. We look forward to your entry and wish you all good luck!
