BIOGRAPHIES. GROUP: ENGLISH 2 morning & afternoon Stephen King, was born on 21 September 1947, in Portland, Maine, USA. He was the second son of Donald King and Nellie Ruth. After living in Indiana and Connecticut, the family moved to Durham, hometown of his mother. Stephen, studied at Durham Elementary and then at Lisbon Falls High School. He started writing at an early age, based on films and comic books he had seen. His first story was published in Comics Review Magazine in 1965. The original title was "I was Teenage Grave Robber", but was changed by the publisher to: "In a Half-Word of Terror". Between 1966 and 1971, he studied English at the University of Maine and wrote a column titled "King's Garbage Truck", in a publication of the institution. In the university library, he met Tabitha Sprice, also a novelist, and with whom he married in 1971. In 1973, King wrote his first novel, "Carrie," the story of a tormented teenager who avenged her companions. The book was a great success, followed by "The Mystery of Salem's Lot", "The Shining", "Rage", "It" among many others, all adapted to the cinema. Currently lives Bangor, Maine, but spends long seasons in Florida. He is still married to his first wife, Tabitha Sprice, and they have three children, Naomi Rachel, Joe Hill and Owen Phillip, the last two writers. In 1996, King won the O. Henry Award for his story "The Man in the Black Suit". In 2003, he was honored with the National Book Award career, which caused a stir among the literary community by the writer's choice, especially by literary critic Harold Bloom. Agatha Christie Her real name was Agatha Mary Clarissa. She was born on September 15, 1890 in Torquay Devon, England, Being daughter of American father and British mother, she could never get US citizenship because of her mother´s opposition. She married twice. Her first husband was Archibald Christie (1914-1929) and the second Max Mallowan (1930-1976). She always lived in England. She was an indefatigable writer of detective novels with the name of Agatha Christie and also sentimental with the pseudonym Mary Westmacott. She participated in the First World War as a nurse and learned to use all kinds of mixtures of toxic substances. She used this knowledge to put into their crime and mystery novels as “Murder on the Orient Express” and characters like Hercules Poirot. She received, among other prizes, the title - Lady of the British Empire- in the year 1931. She died on January 12, 1976 at the age of 85 in Winterbrook House, Wallingford Oxfordshine. England.
