Editorial
¡Saludos lectores!
Agradecimientos y saludos

With 13 years of creation, The Damnation Project already have an outstanding trajectory within the rock scene in Greece. They prove it with "4", their most recent musical work and about which we talked to Ioannis Degdekis, their vocalist and founder.
By: Alejandro Pérez.Hello The Damnation Project! How are you? It's a pleasure to interview you.
Yes, me too. Thanks for having me and supporting us.
How has the pandemic been taking you all this time?
This situation was good artistically cause if you noticed, a lot of bands found the time to release great albums. The same goes for us, too.
I understand that the band emerged in 2009, so you have been together for more than 10 years.
Yes, but not with the same band mates. The lineup has changed a lot, and the new line up is based only on me, and Manos from the past seven, eight years.
How did the idea of creating the band come up?
We just needed to do a band which would had no boundaries and several rock influences.
Which are your main musical influences?
The very first years was eastern sounds and climaxes, under a prog metal spectrum. Nowadays, more classic rock and bluesy sounds.
How would you define your musical style?
We try to compline so many genres that I really can’t define it in a simple way. It surely contains classic rock, blues, metal, progressive, even acoustic, and ballads and instrumental orchestral songs.
Who are its current members? Do you have experience from previous projects?
Me in vocals and all guitars, Manos in Keyboards, Jim in drums and Theo in bass. Me and Manos are very experienced, we play together in a few other projects, we play together for the past 10 years, but the new members are young musicians and very talented.
Let's talk about "4", the band's most recent album. How was the editing and recording process?
It was recorded in August 2016 and edited during the next winter. It stacked in this phase for 5 years because I didn’t have the time to finish it Finally, in the last days of 2021 I was in quarantine, being COVID 19 positive, so I turned out a storage of me in a recording studio, and I stayed there for nine days in which I recorded vocals, mixed and mastered everything.
How many songs does it include and what are it about?
It contains 12 songs and it’s about, what else, love and hate.
Any audiovisual material?
No. Not yet. It’s in my plans.
How have you promoted and promoted it?
Via my PR Angels promotion team from Greece is doing a great job, promoting us worldwide.
How has it been received in general, both by the public and the specialized press?
Well, it has been received, surprisingly well. We didn’t see that coming, you know, but every person that has reviewed this album, so far, wrote so beautiful words for it.
Where is it possible to obtain a copy of it?
If we are talking about a physical copy, not yet. It’s in our plans, as long as we start performing. You can buy our album in digital form, in our Bandcamp site and I all major platforms, in which you can, of course, stream, in free, whenever you like.
I always find it curious when I interview bands from countries as far away as Greece, because little or almost nothing is known about the rock scene in those countries.
In the case of Greece, how is the scene there?
Well, we have a great history in rock band, starting from the 60s with bands like “Aphrodite’s Child”, the band of young Vangelis Papathanassiou, which of course became a huge brand name, and still is until today, “Socrates drunk the conium” also a great band with huge international career, until 90s when a lot of Greek bands with Greek lyrics became very famous and went like, commercial huge, and really created a great scene, but mainly inside our country. After 10 15 years this scene disappeared and nowadays we have, again, great bands, in English language, which have managed to create great careers in international terms, such as: Villagers of Ioannina city, Planet of Zeus, of course, the biggest of all, Rotting Christ, and let us not forget that Greece has one of the greatest rock metal guitarist in the world, Gus G. So yes, we do have a great scene but we would love to see people supporting more and more the independent underground scene.
Is there a variety of bands?
Yes of course, from Indy to metal to blues. I just remembered “Blues wires”, the Greek blues band, supposedly the greatest blues band in Europe.
Are there festivals?
Yes, a lot. In fact, as I’m writing these words, there is a huge international music festival going on, just 5 minutes from my place, and I can hear them playing, a huge ethnic festival, in the city of Kavala, Cosmopolis. A lot of rock festivals and some with pop music, dance music and of course traditional music.
Do the bands have the support of any governmental institution?
Not at all. Our government is fully corrupted and they don’t give a shit about good music, especially rock music which is not politically correct for this right government we have…
Back to the initial question.
As I said, the band is more than 10 years old. How do you feel so far?
There were some good times and some bad times. The problem is that as we growing older and we still don’t earn serious money from what we love, we got tired and maybe someday ask ourselves for how long can I do that.
How much has the band and its members grown?
A lot as I explained in the previous question, and with not good results, instead of being wiser and choosy
How would you like to see yourselves in the future?
I would like to be able to release a good album every 3-4 years and be able to support it in live gigs.
Regarding the band. What are the next plans?
We are almost ready to form our live set up, so we hope to begin performing in the next months.
Do you have any presentation dates planned?
No, not at all. We prefer to be ready first.
Well The Damnation Project, that's all. Thank you for your time and just wish you all the best of luck and success. Before we finish, something you want to say.
Thanks a lot. Keep searching for independent underground bands. You will be surprised!
Founded in 2006 and after a seven-year hiatus, Ivory Tower is the latest album from Hämärä.
About this new album, the reason for their break as a band and other details Aaron Schug, their bass player, tells us.
By: Alejandro Pérez.Hello Hämärä! How are you? It's a pleasure to interview you. How has the pandemic been taking you all this time?
We are doing well, thanks for asking! Hämärä has been on a hiatus for the last 7 years leading up to the pandemic. So we looked at the pandemic as an opportunity to spend more time writing, planning, and recording the album Ivory Tower.
According to its bio, the band was formed in 2006 when its members were teenagers. How did the idea of creating the band come up?
When we came together as teenagers, it was as simple as wanting to be rockstars like all the bands we were so highly influenced by. Josh Ruff was in a band called Arch Angel, and Aaron Schug was a guitarist looking for his place in a band. Josh and Aaron really wanted to start something that sounded more unique here in America. So we got together which led to the formation of Hämärä. There are so many amazing bands out there globally, but there is a lot of music that sounds very similar in each of the sub genres. We wanted to create something that our fans could add to their libraries that had a different sound to stand out. The varying musical interests of each band member has allowed Hämärä to develop a style that blends a diverse set of genres, creating what we believe is a unique and dynamic sound.
What motivated you?
Between the original founders (Josh Ruff, Aaron Schug, Tony Molieri, Kent Johnson), we knew that we had the right mindset, were talented musicians at a young age, and were passionate about music. We had the right ingredients to start a band and wanted to run with it. We saw the metal scene starting to grow in America, and really wanted to be a part of it. There is nothing more enjoyable than creating music and sharing it with the world.
What bands influenced you to define your musical style?
Our sound has matured as our musical interests and inspirations have really evolved. Prior to Ivory Tower we had a more modern melodeath style because of the Scandinavian influence on Aaron’s writing style and Austen’s interest in the more radio friendly metal bands. Over the last seven years while Hämärä was on a hiatus, Tony and Josh had actually been involved and are currently involved in a number of different bands (cover bands, thrash metal, rock, etc.). Josh spent a lot of time studying songs as he learned to record and produce which really led to us referencing popular songs from metal acts to better understand why their popular songs engaged their audiences (e.g., In Flames, Fleshgod Apocalypse, and Soilwork to name a few). With this album, we decided to pivot into a more symphonic blend as Tony now had the tools to pull from his experience in classical music and to write the orchestral layers that we had always wanted to incorporate which paired with Josh’s production experience led to us being able to create a much better record than ever before.
I guess after so many years the lineup of the band has changed. Have there been many changes in the lineup? The lineup has changed a few times. Our original drummer, Luke Ruff quit to pursue college, who was replaced by Joshua Pease for a couple years. Now Orlando Manzanares is the drummer. We also lost one of our guitarists, Kent Johnson, who was replaced by Austen Couch, the guitarist on the album Ivory Tower. Interestingly, Austen had to step away due to life circumstances, and now Kent Johnson is back. Josh Ruff, Aaron Schug, and Tony Molieri are the only ones that have remained with the band since the beginning. Who are the current members?
Josh Ruff (Vocals/Bass), Aaron Schug (Vocals/Rhythm & Lead Guitar), Kent Johnson (Rhythm & Lead Guitar), Tony Molieri (Keyboard/Synth), Orlando Manzanares (Drums).
Let's talk about your latest album "Ivory Tower”, which was released a few months ago.
How was the editing and recording process?
All of the album was recorded and produced by Josh Ruff. He had been building a studio in his basement for the last 7 years and he spent a lot of time researching equipment, how to produce songs to include transitions, structure, building tension and release, etc. Some songs had over 100 tracks when all the synths, orchestra, choirs, etc. were added. Needless to say, it took a long time. During the time that we were recording the album, we had no drummer. So we hired Alex Bosson to record the drums for us. He did an incredible job! We then had the album sent to Taylor Hahn (www.hahnaudio.com) for mixing and Sterling Sound (www.Sterling Sound.com) for mastering.
How many songs does it include and what are it about?
Ivory Tower has 9 songs, all of them have different meanings as the album doesn't necessarily follow a story or theme. Withering Away for instance, is about a sinner who gets dragged to hell by hell hounds. Hardly Awake is about a man who continues to have terrible things happen to him, and he breaks down, losing control. The cool thing about this song is that when you watch the music video, it has a fun little twist that everyone can interpret their own meaning from. Under the Sun is about a person who worked hard their whole life, and never actually lived. No family, no friends, only materialistic assets and money. Only to realize in his old age that while he was rich
materialistically, he was poor emotionally, alone, without living a truly fulfilled life. Each song is unique and has deep meaning behind it.
Any audiovisual material?
Yes! You can watch our music videos for Under the Sun and Hardly Awake on our YouTube page ((361) Hamara Metal Official YouTube) and on our social media accounts.
How did you go about promoting and promoting it?
So far we have done much of it ourselves through social media. It has been super helpful to have reviews written. And these kinds of interviews to help push our name out to the public, so thank you! That’s truly one of the hardest parts of all this. No matter how good you sound, if you don’t find a way to be heard, it’s hard to get traction. How was it generally received, both by the public and by the specialized press?
When we first started playing shows as teenagers back in the early 2000’s a lot of our friends and the local scene was blown away. We brought such a different sound to the Denver scene that really caught the attention of our audience. Unfortunately, due to life circumstances, we had a long hiatus as a band and never released a high quality album until now.
As far as the new album goes, we’ve always had an extremely strong and loyal set of fans in the local area that have been asking us to put out new music for years. Once a handful of them heard the demo tracks, they got super excited about the sound and could hear how much work we put in. Our reviews since the album release have truly been amazing. We are getting higher ratings than I think any of us would have expected. Some reviews from magazines and other places have rated us at the same or even higher than some of the bands we listen to and are influenced by! We honestly couldn’t be happier and thankful about how people are loving this album we worked so hard on.
I noticed that this is the band's first album after a 7-year break. What was the reason for this?
The simple answer is life happened. People were going through a lot. Building careers, finishing college, getting married, having kids, getting divorced, you name it. Those years were some of the busiest for everyone. And we just couldn’t find enough time to invest in Hämärä. We didn’t want to carelessly move forward with the band and produce a lackluster album simply because we didn't have time. So we focused on our skills and wrote songs while we bided our time for when it was right. Now it seems as though we have all gotten to a more stable path in our lives and can truly focus on the band again.
Did you think about ending the band?
We were close to calling it quits for sure. But Josh has an uncanny resemblance to glue and always found a way to keep us together. What we can say is that the worst is behind us and we are here to stay. In fact, we are already a few songs deep into our next album.
What motivated you to create music again?
We never really stopped creating music. Aaron always continued to write in the background. He has so many songs we could choose from to “spice up” for an album. The amount of content we have from the hiatus is quite surprising. The hard part now is taking those songs and making them better based on the newfound musicianship we have all worked on. We might keep the majority of a song, keep one riff of another, or completely abandon one for one reason or another.
What was it like to meet the public again after so many years?
Refreshing, exciting, and a little scary to be honest. We were away for so long, mainstream metal had changed drastically in that time. Our sound has been spoken of as a “rebirth” of old school mixed with new metal. We had no clue if our vision for our music would be taken well. We are so thankful that people are liking it. We will always look to improve our sound by being ready to adapt and change, but will remain true to the core of what Hämärä’s sound is.
Back to the initial question. As I said, the band emerged in 2016. How do you guys feel so far?
We feel incredible and can't wait to drive forward with a new single and new album. We have recently invested a fair amount of time in preparation for playing live again too. So that will be another thing to look forward to, for both us and our fans.
How much has the band and its members grown?
We have grown on so many levels. Aaron has been working on his techniques and writing ability, some of his new stuff is pretty incredible sounding and we can't wait to share that with you. Tony continues to improve his classical skill sets, he’s even a music teacher now. Josh grew the most out of all of us. He spent so much time working on not only his own skills as a bassist, but he took vocal lessons, learned how to produce, and how to record. He has become an incredible musician/producer that all of us rely deeply on. Even if it means axing some of our favorite parts of songs we have written, it makes for a better final product in the end.
How would you like to see the band in the future?
We are all still very busy, both in our careers, with family and other things in life. But we want to be able to produce content more regularly including new singles and albums. We also want to start playing live again!
Back to the band. What are the band's most immediate plans?
We are working on a new single currently. It will be a debut of a newer sound we are starting to pull into the band. Orlando is still recovering from surgery, and we have to catch Kent up on all the songs from the album and content we are working on behind the scenes.
Do you already have any upcoming gigs planned?
We are in the process of lining up some local shows to knock off the live performance rust. After that, we are planning on doing some weekend tours that are within driving distance and then next summer we are aiming for a 2 week long tour either throughout the US or hopefully throughout Europe.
Well Hämärä, this is it. Thank you for your time and wish you the best of luck in your career. Before we finish, something you want to say.
Thank you so much for taking the time to interview us. We enjoy interacting in this way and hope that it will not only get our name out, but help to inspire other bands that may be in rocky times. It’s okay to take a break, work on yourself, work on skill, take care of things in life and come back better than ever. We are living proof that it’s possible!

Formed in 2019 in Finland, Sheltered Sun arises as a need to demonstrate the duality between light and darkness and so they have demonstrated it with their most recent songs, which will be part of their first debut album. About the band's beginnings and future projects we talked to Eddie and Niclas, two of its members.
By: Alejandro Pérez.Hi Sheltered Sun! How are you? It's a pleasure to interview you.
Eddie: I'm doing quite well. Thank you for having us!
How has the pandemic been going for you all this time?
Eddie: It was a very tough time. I'm thankful we've come out of it. Things were put to a crawl, but at the same time some things came to fruition.
According to your bio, the band emerged in 2019 so you have been created for a short time. How did the idea of creating the band come up?
Eddie: The idea sparked when I received some music material and started creating lyrics and melodies for them. I've also wanted my own band/project for years. I wanted to create a complete amalgamation of everything I love about heavy metal, movies and video games.
Who are the current members?
Eddie: Niclas Buss on all Guitars, Bass and Keyboards and myself Eddie DeWitte as Vocalist and Songwriter. We also have Viktorie Surmøvá from the band SURMA as a session vocalist/guest, Alfred Fridhagen Den Andre on session drums and Oliver Palotai from KAMELOT and EPICA contributing his own work.
Do you have experience from previous projects?
Eddie: Yes. I started collaborations in 2012 with various another Finnish and German projects.
Niclas: Indeed, I have. I've composed music since 2003 and refine my skills ever since that. I've been involved in at least 10 different bands during this time. Some were just project based and others I've played live with.
At the moment the band is working on its first album, of which you have released 3 songs so far. Could you comment briefly about both of them?
Eddie: Sure. We are still working on the debut album. The title is still pending. “Moonlight Chaos” was our first single. We feel it demonstrates our diversity and variety. “A New Tale” is a more straightforward Melodic Death offering as is “Commanding The Sceptre”. Themes of nature, personal struggles and women empowerment run through. We have many more themes to cover. Each song carries its own weight in meaning.
Any audiovisual material of them?
Eddie: Yes, both “A New Tale” and “Commanding The Sceptre” both have lyric/music video's so far.
Where can it be heard?
Eddie: On Youtube.
As I said before, you are currently working on your first debut album. How has the editing and recording process been?
Eddie: The recording process for myself has been a bit of a challenge so far going through the motions of audio processes mainly because I have to run both the software and perform simultaneously, giving me more experience in the process. It's also a lot of fun. Everyone else involved is so professional in making their parts, that putting the pieces together is a less strenuous and easier process.
Niclas: It has gone fine, I did the main producing and editing before sending all gathered audio files to a professional for the final mixing and mastering. Basicly I have the same process as Eddie, to handle the software and record performing at the same time. But that is quite a routine after so many years. It's nice to be able to finish songs like this even though we live far apart.
How many songs will it have?
Eddie: 9
Will it include audiovisual material?
Eddie: Most likely. When will it be available?
Eddie: To be determined. Still in development. Once you have the album finished. How do you plan to promote and promote it?
Eddie: We strongly believe in creative freedom and more funds directly to the artist, which is why we will stay independent for a while. We will promote the same way we did our singles. We will continue social media, blogs, interviews, reviews, radio play, occasional video chats with the fans, etc.
Do you already have your first presentations planned?
Eddie: Like everything else, it's a work in progress.
How do you think it will be received in general, both by the public and the specialized press?
Eddie: Already we get nothing but good positive feedback from every source that has featured us as well as the music listeners/fans, so I want to say quite well.
Where will it be possible to obtain copies of the album and in what formats will it be available?
Eddie: Still in development. Back to the band. Besides your first album, what other immediate plans do you have?
Eddie: Well, I have a handful of other projects I've worked on this summer and may be breaking into other parts of Europe in the future. The sky's the limit. Well Sheltered Sun, that's all. Thank you for your time and wish you the best of luck in your career. Before we finish, anything you want to say.
Eddie: Thank you so much! Support the artist if you like the music. For many it's a dream to do music full time. Support that dream and stay heavy!

Megadeth estrena “The sick, the dying… and the dead”, su album de estudio no. 16
¡Con doce temas nuevos, The Sick, The Dying...
And The Dead!
The Sick, The Dying...
The Sick, The Dying...
