what we do. Whether it's our fitness goals, or our life The interesting thing about giving is this, its not just giving something up, it also letting go. This is where the power comes from. It’s an opportunity for us as individuals to become less attached and make sacrifices sometimes beyond what is comfortable. The same concept must be applied to your health and fitness. You must give to yourself. You must see your health as something bigger than your immediate appetite for pleasure. If you do not learn to do this, you will begin to see your health decline and you turn inward living more selfishly. It’s a slow fade. You are worth more than that. Your body is worth more than that. Little by little you can change the way you think and the way you act towards yourself. Instead of multiple acts of self-pity leading to more despair, you begin to grow and become strong. This is the power of giving whether it’s to others or yourself.

A few things you may be able to do: • C all and lift a friend up. • L ook for some small way to give and not think of it as detrimental to your own well-being. • V olunteer a few hours of your time. • Treat yourself to a healthy meal. • M ake some sacrifice to the exercise more often. • T ake a moment to think of your value. Generous people are in much better health. Being able to step outside of oneself and give is an essential ingredient for happiness. I think it’s OK to practice generosity knowing that it is beneficial to ourselves as well as to the recipient. It’s not selfishness, it’s an honest recognition that love and generosity creates an exchange of positive energy, and fuels further love and generosity. Especially when the recipient is YOU.

SPRING TRAINING: Colleges and most large high schools participate in spring football practices. These practices usually begin in March and last until the end of April. For these eight weeks you will be going through full practices, so your workouts will not be as intense due to the work you go through on the field. Your running and agility work will be done during practice, but you will continue to lift three or four times each week, depending on your coach's decision. The goal for this period is to maintain your strength, and many coaches will take this time to introduce the Olympic lifts such as cleans and snatches to improve the explosive power vital to success on the field.
SUMMER WORKOUTS: By far the most intense phase of your training will be the two months of the summer before football season begins. You will be running three times a week typically, and the drills will focus on high intensity bursts and change of direction drills to prepare you for football robHOWELL skills. You will decrease your repetitions as the summer progresses, eventually performing three to five sets of no more than three or four reps on the major movements. Your workouts will consist of Olympic lifting and large muscle movements to make the most efficient use of your time. IN SEASON: During the season you will not stop working out. If you do, by the end of the season you will be significantly weaker. During the season you will work out at least twice a week, and possibly three times depending on when your games are played. Each of your two workouts during the week will be total body workouts designed to maintain your strength throughout the week You will use lighter weights to avoid overtraining and hurting performance on game day. For more info on how to prepare for your upcoming season contact your local performance enhancement facility and they can create a program just for YOU. SPEED ALWAYS WINS!

This is a healthy alternative to the “Bisquick” pancakes most people are used too. They are very close to a regular style pancake; most people will not even realize they are healthy. garyDRAGON The addition of cottage cheese adds a nice creamy flavor to the pancakes and additional protein. These pancakes can be served with a no sugar added preserve or a sugar free syrup. The nuts are optional, but I like to add them for the additional flavor they add to the pancakes.
Ingredients:
1½ cups of oat or whole wheat flour 2 Tbsp sugar or 1 Tbsp substitute ½ tsp salt 1 tsp baking soda 1½ cup low fat butter milk 4 egg whites ½³ cup cottage cheese 1 tsp vanilla ½ cup nuts of your choice – added after the cakes are on the griddle ¼ cup mini dark chocolate chips (for the kids, added after the cakes are on the griddle)
To Make:
1. Heat a griddle or large skillet and spray with non-stick spray. Mix all the dry ingredients into one bowl and then set aside. 2. Mix all the wet ingredients except the egg whites and cottage cheese. 3. Next combine the wet with the dry and just mix until incorporated. Add the cottage cheese until it is just mixed. 4. Beat the egg whites in a separate bowl or mixer until soft peaks form and then fold them into the batter slowly. 5. Cook the pancakes until light brown and then enjoy!

Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) has been used clinically as a pharmaceutical agent in the treatment of hypogonadism as well as to increase fertility. hCG works by activating the Luteinizing Hormone/Choriogonadotropin (LHCG) receptors of the pituitary gland. The activation of these receptors causes the body to release a large surge of luteinizing hormone (LH) from the pituitary gland, similar to the onset of puberty. It then sends a chemical signal to the testes to increase steroidogenesis (production of androgen hormones) and sperm production in males. A Reduction in overall body fat has also been shown with hCG use, resulting in the widely popular hCG diet that is being prescribed by doctors. When choosing a natural hCG supplement, whether the reason is for increasing free testosterone levels or losing fat, make sure the hCG is in sublingual pellet form that dissolves under the tongue, and not

Another popular ingredient in natural testosterone boosters is Ovine Placenta Powder which contains high concentrations of Equine Chorionic Gonadotropin (eCG). The eCG in Ovine Placenta Powder acts as an orthologous hormone to hCG and causes the same LH surge and increase in both testosterone and fertility. Eurycoma longifolia extract, commonly reffered to as “Longjack, has the capacity to reverse the inhibitory effects of estrogen on testosterone production and spermatogenesis and has an effect similar to testosterone replacement therapy in counteracting ostereoposis. Over the years as a diet counselor and trainer, by marisLEE I have come to realize that there are 3 levels of fitness activity. I’ll categorize them as exercise, working out, and training. I’ve been a fan of Little Richie Clementi’s for years. I have to admit, though, as a single mom of a young boy and a high school teacher of 25 years, my perception of his training in his early years as a wrestler was one of disapproval. I watched him put in hours of rigorous work, cut weight, win and lose matches, and endure crushing disappointment in himself, and I winced at the discipline I thought was too harsh for his soft heart. I would have shielded him, given the choice. Now, however, as I’ve recently watched him win the 2017 Louisiana State Wrestling Championship after an entire season undefeated, I know I would have been wrong.

of education seek to protect children from ideas like failure and consequence, Coach Rich believes these are necessary tools in the development of champions on the mat, and strong, confident members of society." The sport of wrestling is unique in that it forges champions by placing them in supervised adverse situations that allow them to experience failure and disappointment. According to Coach Rich Clementi, these invaluable experiences on the mat teach young children to operate in difficult circumstances, make split second decisions, plan, execute moves, and in essence, develop the desire and character necessary to win. The work is physical, mental, and often emotional, and the skills gained on the mat transfer to all other aspects of the child’s life. This is one of the main reasons I believe all kids should wrestle. While contemporary society and the field of education seek to protect children from ideas like failure and consequence, Coach Rich believes these are necessary tools in the development of champions on the mat, and strong, confident members of society. Rich Clementi is a man who knows a lot about forging champions. He was a top ranked High School wrestler in New Jersey before enlisting in the military. He transferred his wrestling-based style of fighting into the cage, and fought for the UFC in Japan and Europe. After his UFC career, Rich opened Clementi’s Gladiators Academy, where he trained professional athletes exclusively for many years until the birth of his son, Richie. As he watched young Richie compete in grappling and wrestling, he began to realize that the championship mentality is not inherent in DNA; that it had to be taught. And that it’s best taught in adversity. “Children today are being coddled. In a misguided effort to “spare” children from disappointment, there are no winners and losers. In my opinion, that doesn’t develop strong, capable young adults.” When he began to see Richie develop mentally and emotionally, Coach Rich decided to shift his focus to training children. “The goal for my wrestling program is to create champions. The championship mentality is a seed planted that will blossom for the rest of the child’s life.”
Richie Clementi
This year, the Bayou Elite wrestling program, which is a perfect partnership between Holy Cross High School in Metairie and Clementi’s Gladiators Academy in Slidell, celebrated five 1st place winners at the Louisiana State Wrestling Tournament. Richie Clementi is one of those champions, taking first place novice at 65lbs. Richie is the son of Amanda and Rich Clementi, and when I asked Amanda if she ever felt, as a mom, that her son’s training was too harsh, she assured me she has always understood the purpose of rigorous training and discipline, and its inevitable result. “I tell new wrestling moms they will see more tears on the mat than in any other sport. Moms must have faith that those tears will lead their children to greatness.” She explains, “Life is full of disappointments and obstacles, and children need to learn how to deal with those from within. Wrestling training builds the fortitude inside that success in life requires.” Unfortunately, I would have been one of those moms who questioned the process. It seems natural for moms to “protect” their children from what we perceive as negative experiences. This drives well-meaning parents to tangle with teachers, sponsors, and coaches on their child’s behalf. But I’ve been able to watch Little Richie’s development over the years into a true champion, both on and off the mat. This past season, I witnessed his maturity as a young leader at each tournament, his emotional strength, his remarkable skill level, and his kindness toward his teammates and opponents. While I initially feared the discipline of the sport was too harsh, I now see first-hand the benefits of that discipline in his character. And given the choice now, I would enroll my son in the Bayou Elite wrestling program in a heartbeat. And I would trust Coach Rich and the process wholeheartedly.

Caden Judice
As a mentor to all the children who enter his program, Coach Rich knows how far each one can be pushed, and he supervises their training and development at all stages. He says the first three months are the hardest for parents to adjust. “I never quit on a kid. Sometimes parents do not understand the process, and they quit when their child experiences frustration or failure.” Kids who are new to wrestling will learn defeat, they will feel overpowered, and they will be faced with adversity. Coach Rich believes maintaining high standards encourages competition, which breeds the desire for excellence. “Many team sports limit individual competition, whereas in wrestling, newcomers battle experts, and the loser of the match learns quickly what he needs to do to get better.”
Jesse Lawless The parents of state champion wrestler Jesse Lawless are very thankful for the program. In fact,
Jesse’s father, Robbie Lawless, has always insisted Jesse stick with wrestling, even when he had discouraging seasons. “It’s not just about wrestling technique. This sport teaches him about not giving up when he faces adversity.” Jesse’s mom Kerri has witnessed the growth in her son over the years in this program. “Jesse has learned that excellence is a standard. Coach Rich has instilled a strong work ethic and the importance of the right mindset before every match.” This season, Coach Rich helped Jesse develop the desire to win and coached him to his 1st place medal in the Schoolboy category at 144lbs. Jesse appreciates that Coach Rich took an interest in him and believed in him. Before his final match this year, he felt exhausted and discouraged. But he shifted his own mindset, a skill he’s learned from this program. “I thought about what it would feel like walking out without a 1st place medal,” he said. “I knew that would be the longest ride home.” He made the decision to win, and it paid off beautifully.

Another state winner this year is Caden Judice, who took 1st place in the Intermediate 65lb category. Caden’s parents, Misty and Chad Judice, have sacrificed greatly to make sure both of their sons have access to the Bayou Elite program. Misty drives and hour and a half from her home in Crown Point to the gym in Slidell on Mondays and Wednesdays and waits while they train. She believes her boys are learning life lessons that will serve them for years to come. “It’s built in Caden the ability to take a loss and get through to the end result.” After suffering losses in previous years, this year he had an undefeated season, and not one point was scored on him at state. Nine-year-old Caden says, “Coach Rich is hard on us, but it makes us better on the mat. When I’m put in a bad position, I know what to do.” For Caden’s parents, his win at state makes every moment of the drive worth it. His dad, Chad Judice, says, “Life is tough. You don’t always win just because you compete. Sometimes after a tough loss you have to regroup and get back on the mat in order to place. That’s what Caden is learning.”
Quinton Cap Nine year old Quinton Cap is the fourth state champion from Bayou Elite this year, securing 1st place Intermediate at 80lbs. His parents, Kimberly and Michael Cap, chose this program in Slidell because of the level of skill they saw in the wrestlers as opposed to other clubs. After only three months of training, Quinton’s skills improved dramatically. Kimberly says, “This wrestling program also trains the kids mentally, not just physically. It trains the whole kid.”
Cole Bourquard The youngest and fifth state champion this year is six-year-old Cole Bourquard, who took 1st place in 40lb. Bantam Folkstyle. His father Steven Burquard switched Cole from Jiu Jitsu to wrestling this season because he knew Cole had natural athletic talent, and he wanted the scholarship opportunities that the sport of wrestling offers. He attributes Cole’s championship win this year to hard work and good coaching. “Part of Cole’s success is his the environment at Bayou Elite. His teammates are serious competitors. He practices with greatness, and that improves his performance.”
The Slidell Bayou Elite classes on Monday and Wednesday nights are structured so that experienced wrestlers train first at 4:30pm, and then the new wrestlers come in at 5:30pm for small group training with student leaders. This method allows Coach Rich to mentor large amounts of students at one time, as well as develop the leadership abilities of his older wrestlers. “You can’t find this type of mentoring in football or other team sports.” Additionally, the Slidell location offers Tuesday/Thursday strength and conditioning classes for all young athletes age 9 and above, taught by Coach Johnathan Johnson. Coach Rich finds working with children far more personally rewarding these days. The partnership that’s been formed between Holy Cross High School and Clementi’s Gladiators Academy is one that is beneficial for all parties. The two Bayou Elite locations offer parents the opportunity for their kids to participate on both sides of the lake. “Since there’s not a big focus on wrestling in the south, there just hasn’t been an opportunity like this before, for kids to get wrestling training and education for their future with the possibility of earning college scholarships.” Little Richie Clementi, at only 10 years old, is already considering which colleges he wants to attend. According to Coach Rich, parents of football players should consider enrolling their children in wrestling during the off-season. A recent article published in The Sportster reveals the NFL recognizes the benefits of wrestling training more than ever. “Football and wrestling are more connected than most people realize, perhaps because of their extreme similarities. They both feature strong athletes, with an incredible determination to win. Hall of Fame NFL coaches and honorary players continuously support the beneficial aspects that wrestling can have on football” (The Top 20 NFL Players Who are Former Wrestlers). In fact, Dallas Cowboys’ Bob Breunig attributes his success on the football field to lessons learned in High School wrestling. And which lesson was most relevant? Losing. After an undefeated season, an upset in the finals brought Breunig the humility he believes he needed for true success, both on and off the mat.
In a society where both “the thrill of victory” and “the agony of defeat” are being softened by participation trophies, lowering standards, and educational policies where “everyone wins,” there is still one sport that recognizes and rewards the hard work and determination that it takes to earn 1st place. There is still one sport that introduces children to adversity and teaches them that frustration and failure are valuable tools that can be used for growth. With five state champions this year and many more to come, Coach Rich Clementi and the Bayou Elite program are committed to forging champions. Children of all ages, ethnicities, athletic abilities, weight classes, and maturity levels are welcome to come experience wrestling training and competition at its finest, right here in Clementi's Gladiators Academy southern Louisiana. 1910 Possum Hollow Rd Watch out, Iowa! REASONS TO GIVE CROSSFIT A GO IN 2017 USUALLY WE’ D START OFF WITH A SALES PITCH ABOUT CROSSFIT, IN AN EFFORT TO EDUCATE THE GENERAL PUBLIC ABOUT WHAT IT ACTUALLY IS. HOWEVER, THIS APPROACH IS NO LONGER NEEDED, AS CROSSFIT HAS MADE IT'S MARK ON THE BROADER FITNESS INDUSTRY. Most people now know what CrossFit is and those who aren’t in the industry have heard the term mentioned before. So, with that out of the way, we can get right to the point – Why should you consider crossFit in 2017? For starters, it’s a great way to Change Things Up. We all get stuck in the day-
to-day routines of work, training and life. With the set structure of the work week, one of the variables that can be changed is that of training. The same CrossFit sessions are rarely repeated, which offers an ideal contrast to predictable and structured work days or training programs.

It is refreshing to head to the gym and not know what lies in store for your session. The idea is to keep the training stimulus fresh and make those one to two hours of your day invigorating so that you can carry on with your day with renewed vigor and energy. Some of the additional benefits of going to the gym and committing to a training program are those of Weight Loss and Conditioning. If your training is fresh and stimulation, you’ll be more likely to remain committed to your routine, and the more committed you are to the training, the better your results will be. As you should know by now, CrossFit is not the average run-of-the-mill training routine. You will work as hard as your body will allow, at your own pace and skill level. Also, in the class environment, the competitive spirit comes out and pervades the group dynamic, As long as it is nurtured and directed, this competitiveness can be very healthy. It is a tool that Pushes You Further than your ordinarily would during an average training session.
∙ April 2017
CrossFit is also extremely versatile and covers many aspects of fitness. It therefore scales well into many other sporting and training protocols to offer and Ideal Form Of Cross Training. It does not have to be the sole training routine used for fitness. I know of many athletes, from Olympians and world champions to weekend warriors who now incorporate CrossFit training into their broader training routines as their predominant strength component. In much the same way, CrossFit can be weaved into the approach of people from all walks of life to improve functional strength, aid rehab or boost general fitness levels. That’s the beauty of the program. Joining and participation in a CrossFit Gym also goes way beyond a mere form of exercise. You also Become Part Of A Community. I have seen many people thrive in the training environment as they form strong friendships and bonds, and start venturing out of the gym together to take on new and varied adventures and physical challenge. This carries their CrossFit fitness and rela-
tionships into arenas outside of the gym and ensures that they get to experience new things and push their physical boundaries in new, exciting ways. The Navy Seals also believe that humans are capable of exceeding our perceived limits by a factor of 20 times. We often sell ourselves short and don’t truly believe how strong and capable we are. While I’m not saying that CrossFit will turn you into a Navy Seal, I do believe that you’ll achieve much more from your training, your work and your life in general, by simply being part of a CrossFit gym and the community as a whole.
It Breeds A Culture Of Performance And Constant Improvement.
Since CrossFit has settled and cemented its standing in the broader health and fitness industry, it is now easy to find the best boxes and coaches, making now the perfect time to check it our and give it a go. I have no doubt that it will freshen up and invigorate your training and, in turn, your life. Take a leap of faith this year and step into a CrossFit gym to shift your perceptions and opinions and change your life forever.
