After an alarming report detailing conceivable MBTA service cuts, the state’s top transportation official insisted yesterday a final plan is far from being determined. With the T facing a $160 million budget deficit, officials have warned fare hikes and service cuts

“People are outraged.” Lee Matsueda of the T Riders Union will happen without help from the Legislature by July 1. The Boston Globe reported last week one option includes cutting weekday commuter rail trips after 7 p.m. and all weekend trips, lightly traveled bus routes, six Green Line stops and other evening subway service, citing an internal trans-

portation document. The news sparked a rash of public fury on the Web, as riders sounded off on message boards, blogs and Facebook. “People are outraged,” said Lee Matsueda of the T Riders Union. However, Transportation Secretary James Aloisi said yesterday

that an analysis of potential options isn’t complete and that the public will have its say. “There is a no particular proposal. We’re going to look at a variety of options,” said Aloisi, who has previously indicated riders could see a 25 percent fare hike. Lawmakers will soon begin debating new revenues, such as the governor’s proposed 19-cent gas tax hike, to rescue the state’s debt-ridden transportation system. MORE COVERAGE, P/02
