Millwood High School Junior Jada Williams says she has always enjoyed taking care of children and had plans to pursue a career in childcare from a young age. Her goal is to study clinical child psychology when she graduates; however, she knew joining the Early Care and Education program at Metro Tech would be a great start. “The people in this program are so amazing,” Williams said. “Ms. Thornburg is a great teacher, and I have loved working with the children. I’ve learned so many things I never thought I would.”
During her time at Metro Tech, Williams also had the opportunity to compete in the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) Organization with her book in the Children’s Literature Division, and she served as a Vice President for Community Service and Competitive Events.
Williams says she loves writing and reading to children, so the chance to enter her first book in the FCCLA competition was the start of another career goal. “I really want to be a published author,” she said. The hands-on learning opportunities are what Williams enjoyed the most in the Early Education program at Metro Tech.
You can read books and get all the information that way, but when you do work-based learning, you’re put in real-life situations that better prepares you for the field.

Metro Tech Adult
Rilea Fair | Electrical Technology
Rilea Fair said she was inspired to enroll in the Electrical Technology program at Metro Tech because, while growing up, she enjoyed watching her grandfather pursue a successful career as an electrician.
“My Grandpa has over thirty years of experience in the industry, and it was always fun to watch him work while I was growing up,” Fair said.
Rilea enrolled in the program as a senior at Epic Charter Schools but chose to continue as an adult because she enjoyed the hands-on learning opportunities.
“The best part of the program has been getting to see our projects come to life,” she said.
During her time at Metro Tech, Rilea competed in SkillsUSA and was also inducted into the National Technical Honor Society. Now that she has completed the program, Rilea plans to jump straight into the workforce as an electrician.

HOSPITALITY & TOURISM | FULL-TIME CAREER PROGRAMS CULINARY ARTS
Metro Tech High School
For Home Schooled Senior Erick Jones, his love for Culinary Arts began in his kitchen at home where he would cook with his dad on Friday nights.
“I’ve always loved the skill and passion of cooking,” Jones said.
Jones has attended Metro Tech since he was a Freshman, and he is a graduate of the Computer Science program as well. During his time at Metro Tech, he has been involved in the National Honor Society, the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America Organization (FCCLA), where he acted as the Vice President of Community Service, and SkillsUSA, where he has served as a Northwest District Officer. Jones also competed and placed at state and national FCCLA and SkillsUSA competitions.
When he’s not participating in Career Tech Organizations and cooking with his family, Jones operates a family-owned lawn mowing business with his siblings and volunteers with the Salvation Army. “I really love serving my community and anyone who needs a helping hand,” he said.
After he graduates, Jones plans to continue his education in Culinary Arts with the hope of one day opening his own restaurant in his home community of Northeast Oklahoma City.
