TALAVERA CERAMICS IS MOSTLY USED TO MAKE SUCH ITEMS AS PLATES, BOWLS, JARS, FLOWERPOTS, RELIGIOUS ITEMS AND DECORATIVE FIGURES.

Talavera Talavera is a type of majolica pottery, authentically from Puebla because of the quality of the natural clay found there and the tradition of production that goes back to the XVI century. Talavera is distinguished by a milky-white glaze and there are only six colors used in its production, even though the most used and the most precious one is the blue cobalt -also the most expensive one-. You can also use this amazing artisan craft for your wedding. It will give your decor an elegant, authentically Mexican touch that will enchant all your guests.

Charm & Romance of Tuscany and Provence, with a Mexican Soul

San Miguel Arcangel Parish

SAN MIGUEL DE ALLENDE

Callejoneadas Drowning in the intoxicating warm, saturated hues, surrounded by flowers, elegant arches of colonial buildings and decorated by artisan work, San Miguel de Allende, designated UNESCO World Heritage site, is arguably the most picturesque town of Mexico. Some compare this town to the quaint, charming towns of Tuscany or Provence. For us, it’s just as charming, but full of Mexican animated soul and spirit. Nestled on a hillside in the central highlands of the country, San Miguel welcomes with warm, vibrant traditions – you can hear the mariachi’s deeply romantic music vibrating through colonial arches one moment, and the next one you can adore a local festival that suddenly transforms the main plaza into a fantasy place decorated with colorful flowers, sprinkled with local vendors, arts and music. In the evenings, you can hardly escape the sounds of live music surrounding people in the sidewalk cafés, reverberating through the square, entering galleries and small courtyards and lingering in the balconies. Sometimes, you will see two or three bands playing simultaneously next to each other, and couples, young and old, dancing among the tables.

The romance can be felt in the air, and you can relive it in the old-time style - aboard horse-drawn carriages, surrounded by constant music or traditional Callejoneadas - a picturesque, folkloric event performed in the streets by local student bands. You will see many couples strolling hand-in-hand on the cobblestone streets, kissing, hugging, dining and laughing. San Miguel de Allende is the town of love and romance, and this infectious sentiment is visible everywhere. To get married in San Miguel de Allende or to have your honeymoon here is to live a fairy tale, to get submerged in its festive atmosphere, to witness the authentic rituals, to participate in joy and dancing and music, while surrounded by beauty and history every step of the way.

Let us take you on a tour of this magic Mexican town and suggest the best places to visit, to see… and where to say I DO, of course.

SAN MIGUEL DE ALLENDE INDULGE YOUR EYES... HISTORY, ARCHITECTURE, ART The silver mines in Mexico’s central highlands provided the wealth that pushed Spain to world prominence in the 16th century, though the town’s hero, Ignacio Allende, grew up with a keen interest in pursuing independence from the Spanish. The splendor of a rich silver town during colonial epoch gave birth to its architectural richness, grand mansions and magnificent churches. In the decade of 1940s, as a result of the University of Fine Arts, theater and music prospered and attracted national and foreign artists. San Miguel’s historical center is full of well-preserved buildings, dating back to 17th and 18th centuries, surrounded by winding cobblestone streets, leafy terraces, fine architectural details and sumptuous interiors that fascinate and enchant… San Miguel de Allende is also all about art. Known as one of the premier art destinations in Latin America, its art galleries are steadily gaining international appeal. Visitors come from across the world to take in the exceptional art, theaters and street fairs from both local and international artists. It could be its typical charm of gothic and baroque architecture or the magic of its narrow winding streets or the atmosphere of its traditions and culture that is felt and seen on every step… or perhaps it’s just something in the air that leaves each traveller under a magic spell.

"San Miguel de Allende" is an ideal town to explore on foot, so wear comfortable walking shoes and start the romantic walking tour with your loved one. 19 MEXICO WEDDING MAG

Typical dishes include Rabo de Zorra, made with chilis, eggs, and lard; the traditional Pacholas fried ground beef strips served with vegetables; Empanadas de carnitas, patties filled with pork. Other local recipe is Fiambre estilo San Miguel, a mixture of meats, fruits, and vegetables in olive oil and apple vinegar. To accompany any of these dishes, you can order beet flavored water and strawberry liquor.

WEDDING & ROMANCE TRADITIONS Burro Tequilero, or tequila donkey, is a San Miguel’s wedding tradition, where the newlyweds get on a donkey after their ceremony and go around the streets. The donkey carries bottles of wine, served to the participants by waiters. Callejoneada is an entertaining activity, perfect for families before the wedding or to break the ice. It includes going around the cobblestone streets of San Miguel, accompanied by a local band playing festive music. Estudiantinas are live local bands that know how to engage the public at weddings, making everybody dance and sing; they also narrate legends and jokes, and use ancient music instruments and accordions. Serenata Romántica is a romantic serenade, sung by young men for their beloved lady and accompanied by mariachi bands. Mariachis can also be invited to a wedding.

They decided to get married in Mexico. They both love tropical places and the bride-to-be was enamored with the idea of getting married in a different, exotic place. They wanted to do it before it was way too hot for them – after all, they come from Canada. So they chose spring. The newlyweds loved sharing the experience with so many friends and family, all from Canada, who were all in the same place for the big day.

They decided to go for Trash the Dress photo shoot after seeing the pictures from Del Sol Photography. They immediately knew it was something they wanted to do. They thought Del Sol did an amazing job capturing the day. Somehow the photographers were everywhere, but the couple didn’t even notice them work. They were like photo ninjas, according to the bride. The photo shoot was done the day after the wedding. The happy new husband and wife were pretty tired after the wedding, but they were able to get through the whole day’s shoot in good spirits. Dayna admits, though, that it was really hard to stay under the water. She confesses she made a mistake not to train before, but says that with wedding stress she didn’t have the time or motivation. But she wishes she had!

My first visit to the Hacienda San Gabriel de las Palmas a year ago was an incredible experience. After working in the wedding industry for the past twenty years, I can honestly say that few places have captivated me so completely. I will try to describe a little of what it was that gave me goose bumps with every step I took, and filled me with pride to see our country’s natural riches on lavish display. Every corner of the Hacienda has a story to tell. The stone walls, domed ceilings, wrought iron window treatments, balconies, royal palm avenues and porticos are witnesses to the remnants of this Franciscan monastery, which later became one of the country’s main sugar plantations until its transformations into a “great little luxury hotel”. The San Gabriel Chapel dates from the XVI century with a seating capacity of 180 people, and provides direct access to the Hacienda, spilling onto a cobblestone avenue that ends at an impressive waterfall. At every turn, the Hacienda is surrounded with lush gardens and centuries-old trees, providing the perfect backdrop for Cocktail Hour. Another enchanting space is the XVI century Gallery, lit with medieval lanterns. It’s ideal for more intimate celebrations, such as the Civil Ceremony. If you’re looking for banquet facilities, you can choose between a spacious granary with sweeping arches and room for 350 guests, which has a dance floor above the majestic swimming pool, or the exotic gardens flanked by the ancient façade of the main hacienda walls. The gardens have seated 100, 300, 500, and up to 1200 guests under elegant tents that are 6 meters high! I was very pleasantly surprised by the gourmet fare; the flavor, texture and temperature of each dish bears the hallmark of traditional and authentic Mexican hacienda cuisine. When you visit each of the twenty guest suites that have been rebuilt within the original hacienda compound, you realize how much attention has been devoted to the smallest details. Please try to stay here at least once in your life! I can guarantee that your family members and close friends will never forget their stay at San Gabriel, because the quality of the staff and their personalized attention will make your guests feel even better than being at home! Another interesting experience that I discovered for you to share with your guests is the Amate Sanctuary Spa, where you’ll receive an “injection” of energy and relaxation to prepare you for the big day. Others may decide to indulge in this refuge the day after. 40 MEXICO WEDDING MAG

magical

I was amazed by the way that San Gabriel has been perfectly adapted to host a great event. Festivities may start the day before with an elegant Cocktail Hour held in its wine cellar, also dating from the XVI century, or in the “Waterfall Bar” located underneath its spectacular aqueduct. If your guests wish to extend their stay at the Hacienda, they will certainly enjoy the horseback riding trail that will lead them to the natural springs, reedbed rivers and other plantations, or they may prefer mountain biking or paddling around the lake surrounded by heliconias and fruit trees. More restless explorers may visit sites that are located only a few minutes from San Gabriel. Historical and adventure sites include the archeological site of Xochicalco, Taxco, the Cacahuamilpa Caverns, guided tours to nearby haciendas, water sports on Tequesquitengo Lake or the Santa Fe Golf Course. Hacienda Gabriel de las Palmas is located in the little town of Amacuzac in the state of Morelos, about 30 minutes from Cuernavaca. It is easily accessed from the Autopista del Sol. After visiting San Gabriel, you’ll see why so many couples name it as their favorite hacienda. It’s hard to capture such a wonderful experience with words, so I’ve provided a link for you to see a little more. I hope you’ll love it as much as I do!

moon When you imagine a picture - perfect honeymoon on a sugary sand beach, by a warm turquoise sea, surrounded by tranquility and beach bungalows, you don’t need to look much further‌ the magic of Tulum has all that, and much more. The Mexican Caribbean sleepy beach town, formerly an old Mayan fortress, has recently transformed itself to become one of the favorite spots in Mexico for international chic crowd and, of course, honeymooners.

T

ulum started to build just 50 years ago, and first attracted hippies and their idealistic counterculture. This mentality now meets ecotourism and sustainability of our age, where recycling, solar panel energy and candles are everyday reality, adding to the magic and romance, making you feel that you are in a truly special place.. It’s a place that seems to be removed from the modern times, but very comfortable, naturally beautiful, but chic and upscale at the same time.

Tulum’s breathtaking shore is now dotted with stylish boutique hotels, built by expats and locals, all living together in peace and harmony. Each hotel also comes with a beach club and a restaurant, where creative chefs fuse Mexican flavors with world’s cuisine and produce fresh, seductive dishes. Being there, you realize that only Tulum manages to combine rustic chic and luxury with back-to-the-roots experience, all of this surrounded by spirituality, yoga, meditation and… good food.

RESTAURANTS Hartwood Restaurant has become a must-try staple of Tulum. Owned by another Tulum’s former Manhattanine, Eric Werner from Brooklyn, the restaurant attracts many eco chic New York couples, who sip on fresh fruit cocktails and indulge in sumptuous meals, explained tableside by knowledgeable waiters.

Casa Jaguar, is another gourmet paradise, where Euro-house lounge music provides a soft backdrop and cocktails include mezcal with hibiscus, cinnamon, and orange. Cuisine is creative, organic and mouthwatering. At foodie hangout Hechizo, meet the husband and wife team, who have been passionately creating flavorful food art since 2003. Chef Stefan runs the kitchen hands-on—from shopping daily for fresh, quality ingredients, to creating the menus. Wife Hui makes all the delicious pastries. For cocktails, head to Be Tulum and try Don Pepinos (Mexican cucumber, fresh basil, and tequila). If you leave the shore and head to the village, the pueblo, stop by Los Aguachiles for lunch – it’s a recent arrival, where you should try los figurines (lettuce wraps with fresh seafood) or aguachidos, an extra-spicy ceviche with cucumber, pickled red onion, purple cabbage, and a habanero salsa.

WHAT TO DO? YOGA, MEDITATION, SPECIAL TREATMENTS. For Mayan clay treatment try Amansala, a popular beachside hotel. Cover each other in a concoction of clay, honey, and olive oil and go to the beach for a guided meditation. Then run into the ocean to wash it all off. Indulge in a coconut-oil massage and Mayan clay facial at Coqui Coqui’s tiny (but exquisite) rooftop spa. Pick your yoga style, and join a class at Maya Tulum, a world-class wellness retreat. DIVING AND SNORKELING. Take advantage of the world’s second biggest barrier reef, and snorkel or dive surrounded by colorful fish in warm, seethough turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea. MAYAN RUINS. Spend an afternoon at the ruins, a five-minute drive north of downtown, and take in the

carefully restored relics of a civilization that thrived in the 13th through 15th centuries. Tulum, meaning wall in Mayan, was a fortified Mayan city with a thriving civilization. Tulum was a major crossroads of trade from both land and sea, evident by the large amount of artifacts from all over Mexico that have been uncovered at this site. It is one of the only fortified Mayan sites and is one of the best preserved coastal sites in all of Mexico. SIAN KA’AN BIOSPHERE RESERVE. Drive to or take a guided tour to this breathtakingly natural reserve. Take a boat trip through its Muyil lagoon, drifting through the waters of a canal the Maya dug thousands of years ago, and stop in the clear waters to spot dolphins, many bird species or occasional passing whales.

Cenotes.Spend an afternoon swimming in the Grand Cenote, an underground network of caves connected by pure freshwater rivers. Visitors can snorkel or scuba dive, or simply splash around in this romantically mysterious natural wonder.

Coba.Drive about 30 minutes to Coba, another ancient

Mayan city. Climb to the top of a steep pyramid and take in the most amazing view of endless jungle.

Each and every wedding detail should draw the guests into the same enchantment that has captivated the bride and the groom. By creating a retro, romantic and sometimes ethnic style, boho weddings are very natural with colorful and eye-catching elements in playful tones. The original “Bohemians” in the 19th century were travellers or refugees from central Europe - bohémien or “gypsy” in French. Bohemians promoted a lifestyle that was free of social constraints or problems. They dressed as they pleased, without regard to fashion trends. The movement created, in effect, its own style, which would become a trend in itself, a style that was at once irreverent and contagious.

This style translates easily from the runways to the wedding venue, and seamlessly blends hippie and bohemian styles with bold colors that unify elements from different cultures and countries, as well as textures that complement each other without sacrificing elegance. The result is a memorable wedding with true charm, proving once again that love knows no distance nor boundaries.

2013 Trends from around the world define each new season, and every bridal designer must decide which trends will shape their inspiration.

2013 fall winte

NDS FOR THE

er season...

L

ace is a classic bridal detail, but this season bridal designers are giving it a fresh twist to present a look that is delicate and modern at the same time. Chantilly or Schiffli lace is used for illusion necklines, overlays and decorative appliqués. Haute couture designers are producing more structured creations that are entirely overlaid with lace. A very important trend this season is the “illusion neckline,” which uses very sheer panels of fabric to create an illusion that the dress is actually strapless. This season’s designs feature ruched detailing at the neckline, with sweetheart necklines below, and you’ll also see embroidery on sheer backgrounds. Mexican designer Alberto Rodriguez has designed his new collection around this fabulous trend, with appliqués that seem to float and only cover certain areas of the bodice. The open back is another influential trend. It appears most often in silhouettes with modest necklines in the front, and showcases a variety of details such as embroidered lace borders, ribbon straps and covered buttons. We’re also seeing capsleeved dresses that provide counterbalance to dramatic zipper-style openings. Floor-length trains are a must this season. Trains are showing up in lace, tulle or taffeta. Another popular option is an origami-inspired train.

The signature silhouette for the fall season is the mermaid silhouette. We’ve seen it over the last few seasons, but this season its shape is more defined, with the skirt flaring out from mid-thigh. New designs feature overlays that add drama and romanticism to the cut. Mermaid-style gowns evoke a vintage style, and also revisit asymmetry. The mermaid style has become more sensual, and this season is accented with an elongated and fitted bodice and increased volume toward the bottom. Short dresses, often used for pre-wedding cocktails or civil ceremonies, are also an emerging trend. They’re appearing in kimono, baby-doll or A-line silhouettes. Design details include simulated foam, where volume is created using light textures, or densely covered surfaces. We’re mainly seeing this in skirts. We’ll see ruffles full of leaves, which create a foaming effect.

MEXICAN DESIGNERS

Alberto Rogriguez Alana Savoir

The goal is always to create a total look that tells us the whole story… The hottest trend in bridal gowns for this autumn is the modern minimalist look. We see it emerging with fresh and heavy silks that have enough structure to support precise shaping. One-shoulder sheath dresses, sheaths with extended flounces and halter necklines are all gaining popularity. One trend that continues to provide a complete look is vintage-inspired dresses based on designs from the ’20s, ’30s and ’40s. By adding jewelry this style evokes the glamour of film stars from the forties. The Great Gatsby has inspired dresses from the ’20s and ’30s, with boudoir dresses and silky, angled cuts. Figure-hugging silhouettes sparkle in ivory and champagne. The shawl neck will be an essential feature, along with subtly draped trains. Mexican designer Alana Savoir has captured this trend in several collections.

A VERY IMPORTANT TREND THIS SEASON IS THE ILLUSION NECKLINE

The new Dior look continues to make a splash with tailored skirts suitable for daywear or cocktails. Sweetheart necklines complement this relaxed style. Waistlines and straps highlight a natural silhouette along with tulle, which adds structure to the skirt. More and more women are looking for something different, even in the color of their wedding dress. We’ve seen this in some of the recent collections, and the trend is gaining in popularity. The colors chosen by some designers, such as Vera Wang, for this Fall/Winter include a wide range of reds, including wines and fleshtones. In addition, we’re seeing pastel colors, such as the new “Something Blue” collection from Oscar de la Renta. Pastels, including pale pink, powder blue and light green are already appearing on runways for next season; now it is just a matter of being daring enough to try something different.

beauty LOOK YOUR MOST STUNNING ON THE BIG DAY Professional Make-Up Artist Shares Her Secrets PHOTOGRAPHER: MIGUEL MARÍN ELIZALDE, OF FOTÓGRAFO BODA

Your wedding is around the corner… and you need to look your best! You deserve to pamper yourself for the big day and to take the best care of your looks - all the eyes will be on you, after all, and pictures will get taken that will stay with your family for generations. All your family and friends will be watching you, and your happy images will also get shared on social media… need I say more? One of the most important decisions a savy bride will make is identifying the look that works the best for her and making sure she looks her most wonderful on her wedding.

SCHEDULING THE TRIAL The next step that comes after choosing your artist is the make-up trial. Don’t schedule it earlier than two months before your wedding day, because the closer your wedding day is, the more relaxed and confident you are going to be about how you want to look. You will see yourself in the mirror and say to yourself:

“I can’t wait to look that gorgeous!” During your make-up trial, don’t hold back in telling your artist about all the things that you like and don’t like, and specify the type of look that you want to achieve. At the end of your make-up trial you should feel calm and peaceful that you have chosen the right person, who will take care of you 100%, so that on your

garden wedding

For a garden wedding, it’s advisable to choose makeup depending if the wedding takes place during the day or in the evening. Many brides choose soft makeup for the day and a stronger one for the nigt. But the good news is that if you have chosen the right make-up artist, then it doesn’t matter - you can mix and match, use softer make-up at night, stronger one during the day… there are no strict rules in the hands of a good artist, who will make you look your best.

wedding hall

For a wedding hall event you can play around with any kind of make-up that you like. Inside the building, there will be soft lights and you will be able to adjust to the environment, and this kind of lighting usually makes you look great. Remember that fake lashes are a must if your wedding is inside.

STAY PRETTY ALL NIGHT And finally, I will share with you some tips that can be very helpful to allow you to stay at your prettiest during the course of the night. If you tend to sweat, ask your make-up artist whether they have any product that can help you reduce the appearance of sweat on your face during the event. In case they cannot help with you with a certain product, don’t worry. Just gently press with a tissue on the areas of your face that sweat the most and then, if you can, apply a bit of powder on the same spots. You can do this with a brush or with a powder puff. Remember not to put on too much powder, moderation is the rule. The areas that need most touch-up on your face are cheeks, lips and T-zone. I suggest that you put together a mini make-up bag for your wedding day with these four secret weapons: blush, gloss or lipstick, face powder and tissues. With these four things and the tips that I gave you, I have no doubt that you’ll look spectacular on your wedding day and turn heads. This is your day, and you certainly deserve it.

Congratulations!

SAN MIGUEL DE ALLENDE, surrounded by the romance of the past…

BY MARTHA ROCÍO LÓPEZ / CARLOS ZAVALA PHOTOGRAPHY

Imagine a destination wedding in the colonial town San Miguel de Allende, the heart of Mexico… It breathes romance of the years gone by and surrounds by the genuine Mexican joy of celebrating. 80 MEXICO WEDDING MAG

The celebrations usually begin with a traditional walk through the cobblestone streets of the town – so called callejoneada. It is accompanied by mariachi, a live band and a donkey that will carry your wine or tequila, meant for all your guests, and a couple of

Mojigangas, or giant dolls, that represent the future husband and wife. A couple then proceeds towards their chosen place of ceremony – which in this case was one of many beautiful churches of San Miguel, by a horse-drawn carriage. A wedding ceremony in San Miguel de Allende is made into a magical concert by local professional musicians, as the city is famous for its art schools that teach the mastery of different musical instruments. Musicians performing at a wedding are often masters of national level! For the main reception couples like to choose old colonial houses in town or beautiful haciendas with huge patios and beautiful views of the town. Decorated with local artesan art, torches, candles and flowers these centuriesold places reveal their whole romantic potential, enchant and seduce. For mouth-watering dinner menu, there are town’s creative chefs ready to prepare delicious dishes using local indigenous ingredients, such as cactus fruit… For the full San Miguel de Allende wedding experience that you will never forget, contact Martha Rocío López at HQM Gestor de Emociones.

the story

We have a wonderful story. Our mothers were best friends since their youth. When they got married, however, they had to move to the opposite parts of the city, and because of great distances they would see each other only during important events, such as kids’ birthdays.

the story

So Gerardo and I knew each other since we were born. And then, as we were growing up, our moms kept seeing each other, but we stopped. After many many years, I was preparing to go to Sweden as an exchange student. During dinner with my now mother-in-law, I told her about my trip and she gave me Gerardo’s contact information and said we should get in touch. I was hesitating a thousand times, but finally I decided to send him an email. Next day I got his reply, and that’s how a beautiful friendship by instant messenger was born, which then continued from Sweden through Skype, and without wanting and without even knowing how we both looked after all these years, we were already in love. We agreed to meet for one - now legendary - dinner to reunite. We picked Madrid. But, instead of being a dinner of our friendship, it became dinner of love and the moment when we became a couple. After that, he came to visit me in Sweden and finally we met in Mexico and decided to live together. I think we have always known it. We are made for each other, we are each other’s destiny.

proposal

And then he proposed. It was such a special moment. He always knew that I valued my friends a lot. So one day before the wedding, in Madrid, he invited all my friends for dinner. I went to the bathroom, and when I came out, there was no one at the table. It was only him. He asked me again to marry him. I was crying and crying and repeating YES over and over again. At that moment, all my friends came from all around and started applauding. It was another magic moment for me that I will never forget.

our story ACAPULCO, MEXICO

destination

For our wedding destination, we selected Acapulco in Mexico. It couldn’t have been anything different. It’s a magical place, and we both have beautiful memories of spending carefree childhoods there by the sea. No other destination even crossed our minds. It had to be by the sea, in the beautiful port of Acapulco. Guests arrived from Mexico, Spain, Canada, USA and Chile. Everybody enjoyed every single moment of the wedding, perfectly organized by Caty Gomez, with no detail left behind. The guests were also stunned by the beauty of Acapulco – the variety of its restaurants, food, spectacular hotels, kind people, and most of all, the magic view from the Port of Acapulco. Everybody wanted to come back!

ceremony

The wedding ceremony took place during sunset, in front of the sea. The couple entered with the traditional entrance song and exited to the sounds of Gabriel Oboe’s song from the movie the Mission. During the ceremony, Bliss Audio was playing traditional string music. It was a magical moment when, all of a sudden, many seagulls went straight up in the sky right above the couple and their guests. It felt that the colors of the sunset reflecting in the sea and sky and freely flying birds were a true blessing for the newlyweds for their future life together. Decoration of the ceremony was matching the rest of the party. The main color was orange, chosen for its power and energy. There were beautiful candles and flowers. The decorative fabrics and gauzes had a Hindu touch that helped transform the wedding into a real dream.

Acapulco is a magical place, and we both have beautiful memories of spending carefree childhoods there by the sea.

the dress

Here in Spain, where we currently live, there’s a vast choice of brands and designers dedicated exclusively to bride’s dresses. However, I noticed that all these dresses somehow look like one another. Fortunately, I was able to find some designers whose style stands out because of their creativity, with details pronounced in each part of the dress, making them real pieces of art. My favorite one was Yolan Cris, specializing in beach wedding gowns. The moment I saw this dress, I knew it was mine. I didn’t even try many others. It was always this one.

bouquet

The bouquet consisted of lilies, the bride’s favorite flowers, but she also wanted to give it more accent with orange color. She was able to find some gorgeous orange lilies.

accessories

The bride was wearing pearl earrings that were a gift by her fiance during one of their anniversaries. Since her gown was a work of art for her, she didn’t want to over-accentuate with accessories. She had a purse with two pearls that matched the ones in her earrings. She gave a touch of color with her orange shoes. But without any doubt, she thought her best accessory was her bridal headdress, also orange, created by Angel Amor. Angel has designed headdresses for some of the most famous Spanish and international fashion shows and now collaborates in Hollywood.

our story ACAPULCO, MEXICO

the most emotional moment was when the

bride surprised the groom by singing him a very special song.

groom´s fashion

The groom was wearing a linen suit in sand color, with an orange tie. After the ceremony, he put on a traditional Mexican guayabera shirt, of orange color, the same as the shirts of godparents; the fathers of the newlyweds were wearing red guayaberas to match their wives.

How did everyone dress? The bridesmaids were all dressed in orange, and each one selected the design that matched their personality and body shape. The mothers dressed in red and the fathers of the couple wore red ties. The rest of the guests were given all-white dress code.

GETTING MARRIED

IN MEXICO? HERE’S WHAT TO HAVE IN MIND

Planning a wedding is one of the most exciting processes in your life. It’s not only a party. Getting married will completely change your lifestyle and put you next to another person to share incredible moments with. Having a destination wedding is memorable. But having a wedding or honeymoon in Mexico will be beyond your expectations. Mexicans are people who love to have parties, because they are part of our culture. Mexico has original and romantic places: ranches, colonial patios, haciendas, historic places and beaches… it also has beautiful old churches to celebrate a Catholic ceremony.

HERE’S WHAT TO KEEP IN MIND BEFORE

getting married in Mexico

1 2 3

LOCATION. The location of your wedding reflects your personality as a couple, so try to think which place is most in tune with who you are – beach, town, hacienda?...

WEATHER. Mexico has perfect climate all year round, but if you choose coast, find out which are the rainy seasons. There are also colonial places with cooler weather.

DOCUMENTATION. Each state has different requirements, but most of them are the same. Foreigners need only to bring a copy of the certificate of their stay in Mexico (given upon arrival), passport and birth certificate. You’ll apply for license and do blood tests in Mexico. You can hire a translator for the ceremony.

4

CEREMONIES. Catholic wedding ceremonies need the permission of the Church. You may also need a translator or try to get an American priest. Non-religious spiritual ceremonies are also becoming popular in Mexico, such as the Mayan ceremony that is more like a blessing from a Shaman. You can also have a ceremony of any other religion in Mexico.

6 5

FLOWERS. We have all kinds of flowers here in Mexico: lilies, orchids, sunflowers, roses, gardenias, etc., so let your imagination fly freely.

FOOD. Mexico is a country of flavors, colors and scents. As a couple that wants to get married in Mexico, you could offer your guests traditional Mexican cuisine with a twist - we have a fine Mexican cuisine, where chefs develop different kind of fine food with traditional Mexican ingredients, fine colorful tablecloths and exquisite flower decorations.

7 8

MUSIC. is very important for the mood of the party, and we have international bands that could play salsa, cumbia and international music. Our traditional Mariachi, big bands and DJs are usually a part of the Mexican weddings.

WEDDING DRESS. Try to get a dress matching the location where you are getting married. One BIG advice I could give you is to always bring your dress with you on the plane as opposed to checking it in with your luggage.

note

9 10

VENDORS. Using local vendors is always a good idea, because they are familiar with the place and with the best options available.

SMALL DETAILS. Weddings are made of details, so if you are going to have giveaways, always think local. Use local crafts to complement gifts for your bridal party, and put Mexican products into your welcome bags.

www.disenonupcial.com camelu@disenonupcial.com

Mexico is also a perfect honeymoon place. We have lovely beaches and romantic colonial cities, where you could combine relaxation and culture. Mexico loves tourism, and we really like to welcome visitors. We are willing to help organize the day of your dreams... we love parties!

Welcome to Mexico!

WHAT IS THE SECRET IN A RELATIONSHIP THAT LEADS TO A SUCCESSFUL MARRIAGE PROPOSAL? WHAT DO WOMEN NEED TO HAVE IN MIND? AFTER YOU MATCH TWO PEOPLE, HOW MANY COUPLES END UP MARRYING?

I have owned my bi-coastal professional matchmaking business, Samantha’s Table, for 13 years. My business caters to busy, very successful professionals who have no trouble finding dates, but who have not yet found that perfect person who they want to marry. My clients work hard and play hard and when they are playing, invariably they are jetting off to some fabulous travel destination. I have I have helped close to 300 people get married and thousands of people get into long-lasting relationships.

When you are in a relationship, there are a lot of things that need to go smoothly before you end up with that proposal. If you are sure he is the one, the best thing you can do is let him see the “best of you” all the time, so he can envision what his life will be married to you. This means let him see how family oriented you are, how you are kind to his friends, how you care for him, how you get along with his family. These are all things that are important to him and will make him want to propose to you and spend the rest of his life with you.

An intercultural couple can be more challenging on the dating front because of the many differences in their lives/their backgrounds, preferences, and expectations might not align. However, if two people love each other and make the commitment to work through whatever problems arise, then it won’t matter if the people come from two different backgrounds. I think that whether or not living together is a good idea depends on the couple. There is no right or wrong answer here. If you would like to “test the waters,” go for it. Just make sure you don’t get so comfortable with living together that you forget to take that next step towards marriage, if this is something that is important to you. Also, make sure that you don’t end up staying in the relationship with someone just because moving out and finding a new place is inconvenient.

BEFORE THE BIG DAY?

WHAT ARE CURRENT PROPOSAL TRENDS?

The next step after an accepted proposal is getting down to planning the wedding. This can feel like a daunting process because there is so much to do. However, it’s crucial to make sure you plan something that both of you will enjoy and that speaks to both of your personalities. Try not to get caught up with keeping up with the Joneses; just plan something that suits the two of you. If the wedding and the party reflect your true essence, everyone will see that and have a great time!

TO KEEP CALM AND TO HAVE A FUN, RELAXED

These days, I am seeing a lot of destination proposals where the man will plan a lovely and romantic trip and enlist the help of a resort to create the perfect proposal. The problem with this type of proposal is that she is always “expecting it,” so the man needs to come up with a time during the trip when she wouldn’t expect it, and do it then.

WEDDING PLANNING PROCESS?

To avoid turning into a bridezilla, make sure you don’t take any of it too seriously. You have to keep in mind that you are planning a wedding for your own enjoyment, so make sure that at the end of the day, you are still having fun. Remember that this is hopefully a one-time event, so make it be something special and right for you.

DO A SWEET LITTLE THING FOR YOUR SPOUSE AT LEAST EVERY WEEK.

HOW MUCH SHOULD THE GROOM BE IN VOLVED IN THE WEDDING PLANNING PROCESS? SHOULD HE PARTICIPATE EVERYWHERE HALF AND HALF? SHOULD HE STAY ON THE SIDELINES AND LET THE BRIDE AND HER MOTHER HANDLE EVERYTHING?

There is no right or wrong formula for how much a groom should be involved with the wedding planning. Most men seem to prefer leaving it to their wives-to-be. If your guy prefers you plan it and isn’t very interested or good at planning things of this nature, don’t be upset; just accept it. There will be other things in the marriage that he will be good at and you will not; it’s a trade-off. And if you have a guy who actually wants to participate, the best thing you can do is give him some specific action items so he knows upon what to focus his energy and then you and your posse can stay focused on everything else without interference.

If you are planning a destination wedding, you need to pick a place that is easy to get to, has good weather most of the time, and has a venue that just makes you feel happy. A place like Mexico is perfect in this way. It’s easy to get to, the weather is great throughout all four seasons, and there are so many magnificent places to choose from. One of my favorite wedding destinations is Playa del Carmen, specifically the Banyan Tree Mayakoba hotel. They have a wedding consultant on staff who will help you with everything from soup to nuts.

Perhaps you get to pick ation and he gets to pick the venue, p looking until you find a place that u both happy. The key is not letting ng phase ruin the wedding.

I have been to Mexico many times. I grew up going to Acapulco almost every year, first staying at my Uncle Donald’s villa, then staying at a variety of villas at Las Brisas and also at the Pierre Marques in the Princess Hotel complex. As an adult, I have traveled to Playa del Carmen and thought it was breathtaking. Next, I am interested in heading to Cabo and to Zihuatanejo as I think both of these are very romantic destinations.

AND FINALLY, SINCE WE HAVE YOU WITH US, WE HAVE TO GET TO THE HAPPY END. WHAT IS YOUR ADVICE FOR A HAPPY MARRIAGE? WHAT IS CRUCIAL FOR THE COUPLE TO KNOW WHEN MAKING THIS BIGGEST COMMITMENT THEY WILL EVER MAKE?

My advice for a happy marriage is to do a sweet little thing for your spouse at least every week. I would like to tell you to do it everyday, but in our busy lives, this isn’t realistic. You can do something as small as paying them a compliment, putting one Hershey kiss on their pillow or cooking them dinner to planning an elaborate romantic weekend away to the blue seas of Mexico when they least expect it. Any little gesture shows your spouse that you love them and that you care and that is vital in a long-lasting relationship.

ways to lose fat before the big day

Not surprisingly, as a Health Coach, the first question any bride or groom asks me as soon as they walk into my office is: how can I lose a few pounds for the wedding day?

BY JESSICA HERNÁNDEZ

I understand it. Like you, both my fiancé (now husband) and I started a diet in anticipation for the big day. But, when the day finally arrived, I had headaches, suffered nausea, dizziness, and generally felt badly, all due to not providing the proper nutrients and fluids that my body needed. My wedding day was 7 years ago (wow, how time flies). At that time I was yet to become a Health Coach. I would have done things differently had I known better. Trying to lose those extra pounds is a good decision, but we must do it carefully and always in the most healthy and natural way. Our body is a wonderful machine. Its main goal is to stay in balance because that is what allows our body to operate properly. The body suffers if we do not give it the necessary nutrients. All diets restrict something no matter which one you are trying (low fat, protein, lowcarb, you name it). Therefore the body goes through an imbalance. When your body is in imbalance the first thing that happens is that it releases the hormone “cortisol,” also known as the “stress” hormone. The body works normally with a dose of this hormone, but an excess of it can cause inflammation, which in turn results in symptoms such as joint pain, headaches, fatigue, and abdominal fat accumulation. Yes, stress can make you fat.

Today I want to spare you all those bad times and those horrible symptoms by following a few simple tips to keep your body in balance.

Be beautiful and radiant for the big day. 1. Feed your soul with primary food. Friends and family, physical activity, spirituality and a satisfying career feed us. Lack of primary food creates a hole that we try to fill with food. 2. Drink water. Most people are chronically dehydrated. We often mistake thirst for hunger. If you feel hungry between meals, drink a glass of water before giving into cravings. Limit liquid calories from soda and juice. 3. Eat a plant-based diet. Plant foods are typically lower in fat and calories and higher in filling fiber than meat, dairy and processed foods, while providing loads of essential nutrients. 4. Chew your food well. Digestion begins in the mouth. Your body will better assimilate nutrients by thoroughly chewing your food; you will also slow down your eating. It takes about 20 minutes for your brain to register that it is full. You ll feel full and satisfied on less food by slowing your eating.

S.O.S Trying to lose those extra pounds is a good decision, but we must do it carefully and always in the most healthy and natural way.

5. Eat real food. Avoid products with high-fructose corn syrup or a long list of unpronounceable ingredients. They tend to be highly processed, lacking the nutrients your body needs, and are often loaded with empty calories. 6. Eat breakfast. Skipping meals causes your blood sugar levels to peak and dip, affecting your energy and moods. It can also cause overeating later on because you re so hungry. 7. Eat mindfully. Turn off the TV. Get away from the computer. Sit down and savor the food you are eating with no distractions. 8. Get moving. Do any type of physical activity every day. Find movement or exercise you enjoy. 9. Sleep, rest, and relax. if not, your body will crave energy when you are sleep-deprived or stressed, causing cravings for sugary snacks and caffeine as an energy boost. 10. Schedule fun time. Boredom and stress can lead to overeating. Make sure to take time to laugh, play, and participate in activities that bring you joy.
