Puebla, where tradition

meets romance…

Welcome to Puebla, where you and your beloved one will travel down the path of Mexican history, sacrifice, romance, beauty, color and tradition... Located in a valley surrounded by snow-covered mountains and volcanoes, Puebla is also the cradle of art, culture and cuisine. Imagine a place that was a bastion of tradition and Catholicism for centuries. It’s dotted with countless beautiful churches, former monasteries and restored historic buildings. Founded in 1531, Puebla was the first city in Mexico built entirely by Spanish settlers. When you go there, you will meet the warm locals, or poblanos, who are proud of their colorful festivals, breathtaking architecture and culinary history. Puebla is the place where one of the greatest battles in Mexican history took place – in 1862, Mexican troops defeated French invaders at the Battle of Puebla and the victory is celebrated as 5 de Mayo or Mexican Independence Day.

Hand-in-hand with your future husband, walk in its beautiful historical center with a stunning cathedral in the central plaza, zocalo, and admire almost a hundred beautiful churches. CASA DE LA CULTURA: On the south side of the cathedral, the former bishop’s palace is a classic 17th-century building, now housing art galleries and the 1646 Biblioteca Palafoxiana, the first public library in the Americas. POTTERY IN PUEBLA: Puebla, “The City of Tiles,” is famous for Talavera pottery. The process has remained the same since the 16th century it’s made with two kinds of clay, a dark and a light one, both found in Puebla. XOCHICALCO, 1.5 hours away, is an exceptionally well-preserved example of a fortified political, religious and commercial center from the period of 650 – 900 A.D. that followed the break-up of the great Mesoamerican states.

WHERE TO EAT?

EXQ UISI TE D ESE RTS

Puebla’s food is symbolic of what it means to be Mexican. Both mole poblano (thick sauce of chocolate, nuts, chiles and spices) and chiles en nogada (a poblano chile stuffed with meat, fruits and nuts, topped with a walnut cream sauce and pomegranate seeds) are said to have originated here. Puebla is also known for its exquisite deserts, such jamoncillos de nuez y piñón and los camotes (a sweet-potato candy).

RESTAURANTE SACRISTIA, set on a colonial terrace, is an elegant place for a meal of authentic mole and creative poblano cuisine. Live piano and violin create a romantic ambience. LAS RANAS is a true local institution that offers one of Puebla’s great dishes: the taco arabe. It’s served with al pastor (shepherd-style) pork, marinated, grilled, and rolled in fresh Middle Eastern–style flat bread. MI CIUDAD offers excellent local Poblano cuisine (Juárez 2507 in Colonia La Paz). FONDA SANTA CLARA, a Puebla landmark, serves one of the best moles in town (3 Poniente 920). HOW THEY MET Juan Jose and Martha Suzzethe met as students at the University of Guadalajara, in August of 2004. Throughout most of the time at the university, they were good friends. When they realized that they felt something more than friendship, at first they were afraid, as they thought dating might affect their friendship in case their relationship didn’t work out. Their fears couldn’t have been farther from the truth. After almost five years of dating, the proposal was magical, according to Suzzethe.

After almost five years of dating, the proposal was magical.

THE PROPO SAL Juan Jose invited her for dinner in the beautiful Valley of Guadalupe in Ensenada, Baja California. The next thing she realized was being on the pier, where there was a boat waiting, full of flowers, candles and wine. They went on a boat, and during a beautiful sunset, Juan Jose gave her an iPad with a video of their story, with all the magical moments spent together, recorded with lots of emotion and love. At the end of the video he got on his knee, proposed and gave her a ring. Then he took his stunned and happy wife-to-be to the back of the boat, where he had prepared a delicious dinner with a private chef. Suddenly, a group of dolphins arrived to celebrate with the couple, and Suzzethe was especially touched by seeing her favorite animals.

So what could be more romantic than to get married in one of ancient Yucatan’s haciendas, in the intimate embrace of colonial arches, tropical gardens, fountains and birds? Close your eyes, and get transported to the times when Mexican señoras where walking around its winding pathways in their long dresses while holding umbrellas, assisted by fine gentlemen… imagine music, tequila, laughter. Now it’s your turn to live the moment full of sweet nostalgia, romance, chivalry and love. Built in the 18th century, the hacienda Xcanatun is located only 6 miles north of downtown colonial Merida, so you are close to the wild nature, Mayan explorations as well as the biggest city in Yucatan, full of colonial charm in action. Get ready for romance, fun and activities – plan a champagne picnic on a deserted beach, a private trip to a treasured Maya archaeological city, golf, fishing or a private party in one of Merida’s trendy nightclubs. The hacienda was once one of the largest sisal (or henequen) haciendas in Yucatan, meaning that it was dedicated to the cultivation of this “miracle plant,” a native type of agave used to make ropes, which brought an immense wealth generated by its boom.

Walk through its manicured lawns, stroll through vaulted ceiling rooms, and admire the artwork, the history, the magic… The hacienda is set on nine acres of gardens, swimming pools and trimmed jungle surrounded by ochre-colored walls. All accommodations feature handcrafted Caribbean colonial furnishigs, 18 foot beamed ceilings, antiques and private marblewrapped bathrooms. Indulge in the award-winning gourmet restaurant that expertly serves French, Caribbean and fusion Yucatecan specialties or get pampered at a Mayan-style luxury Spa. “His and her” prenuptial relaxation treatments will restore serenity while soothing jangled nerves, and an in-suite Mayan couple’s blessing adds unique spirituality. Trained by her shaman grandfather, Xcanatun’s expert Maya therapist creates these pampering treatments based on ancient Mayan traditions. When planning your wedding, you will have to meet Cristina Baker, the coowner of Xcanatun. She and her team personally oversee each event. And here you will have many options. For a larger wedding, you can rent the entire hacienda for a few days or a week; a special section can be set aside exclusively for a smaller wedding. A tent in the garden for large wedding festivities seats up to 180 people. Smaller celebrations opt for the romantic outdoor Dining Veranda (seats 50) or the private Archangel room (seats 40).

FIRST, FOCUS ON THE ESSENCE

BY BEATRIZ IRACHETA

How to have a wedding decor that whispers charm, finesse & romance We are so lucky to live in the world where lovers can wake up next to each other in the morning, to become one and to allow their unity to connect them to the sky, to the earth and to help them discover the deeper truths and purpose of life. Their love helps them get closer to spirituality, and they start experiencing it in their everyday lives, in everything that they do. They live it and they feel it together, in unison. Everything that happens in their daily life begins to feel more balanced and harmonious. Then suddenly, they understand that they came to be in this exact moment together, because they had already agreed to this in another “place,” before their birth, and always for a reason – to help each other and to help others by their way of life. That’s why the couples that are able to stay in the same frequency have a better vibrational balance and they grow spiritually every day of their lives. When we think about the love story of a couple, all its romance and spirituality, we realize that all of this beauty needs to be incorporated into the most inspiring of all days – their wedding.

WHEN TWO PEOPLE

LOVE EACH OTHER, THEY DON’T HAVE ANY NEED

TO UNDERSTAND WHAT IS HAPPENING, BECAUSE

EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENS, HAPPENS INSIDE

Paulo Coelho

IF YOU WANT YOUR WEDDING RECEPTION TO REFLECT THE ESSENCE OF YOUR LOVE STORY, CAREFULLY CHOOSE THE DECOR AND MAKE SURE IT’S DEAR TO YOUR HEART - WHETHER IT’S A SPECIFIC THEME THAT YOU ENVISION OR AN ECLECTIC CHOICE OF DETAILS.

1. Let your uniqueness show

Make your wedding fabulous, original and inspiring with your unique style, your specific taste and your way of life.

2. Make the ceremony meaningful While you wedding day will involve many decor details, it’s important to give all that you do a romantic touch - have a truly spiritual ceremony and demonstrate to all the loved ones the meaning of your life together and your evolution as a couple.

deco

3. Focus on the outcome as a whole, not on separate details When you think about how to approach the decoration of your wedding, you have to have in mind that in order to achieve a balanced, personalized ambiance, you cannot mix objects of different styles without giving it a deeper thought and envisioning the resulting combinations.

60 MEXICO WEDDING MAG

4. Mix different cultures mindfully In case you and your partner come from different cultures and you want to incorporate details of both into the decor, you have to be careful - even though the decor might be eclectic and sophisticated, big excesses in one style can lead to the feeling of over-decoration.

5. Don’t forget the importance of a natural setting Keep in mind that one of the biggest luxuries that you can incorporate into your decor is the ambiance of the place you choose, the surroundings‌ such as a beautiful sunny day or amazing views. Then just add your special touch to this charming atmosphere – your finesse, your taste and your ability to create and appreciate simplicity.

deco

6.Know the meaning of the colors you select Just to give you some ideas, pink colors (a big tendency in 2014) in flowers and details, for example, reflect romance. It’s one of the sweetest tones you can find, a perfect option for a classic, dreamy style. In accordance with common knowledge, this color is synonymous with elegance, relaxation and peace. Pink color tones are timeless and versatile, perfect for open air as well as for an indoor reception.

SO WHEN THE BIG DAY COMES, WHEN THE DREAM TO UNITE YOUR LIVES FOR ONE AND ONLY REASON – LOVE – CULMINATES IN BIG FESTIVITIES, SURROUND YOURSELVES AND YOUR GUESTS WITH AN AMBIANCE THAT EMBODIES THE ESSENCE OF YOU AS A COUPLE, AS ONE WHOLE.

Fresh from

RUNWAYS OF

spring summer 2014

We looked at the trends from bridal runways of Spring - Summer 2014, and collected the best we could find. Here are your answers for 2014 Spring - Summer season!

LOOK

1

SLEEK, MINIMALIST, CLASSICALLY MODERN This season, “less is more” is one of the philosophies on the runway. It’s best suited for a timeless, classic, elegant bride. These types of dresses do not have many embellishments and are clean, well-tailored and sleek. Those who want to play this look up can always manage it with jewelry or headpieces. Silk is preferred in these romantically fresh cuts.

66 MEXICO WEDDING MAG

4 LOOK LOOK

2

OPEN, DETAILED BACK The trend that started as an open back in 2013, develops into an open back with “X” shape, open-back keyholes, accented with crystals or architectural pleating. An open back exudes sensuality and sexiness, combined with elegance and some drama.

LOOK

3

ANKLE-LENGTH A playful, modern bride might find 50s-style ankle crop to be a great alternative to a fulllength traditional, serious gown.

ROMANTIC, SWEET, VICTORIAN This trend continues the lace style of the previous season, this time transforming into a more Victorian style – covered up, high-neck, with lady-like details, such as peplum. It’s a look that inspires romance.

5 LOOK

EMBELLISHED Three-dimensional flowers, sparkle, intricate details or head-to-toe beading and lace are all part of a trend for a bride that wants to shine in glamour and style.

LOOK

6

OMBRÉ OR BLUSH The shades of peach or pink are showing up all over runways, to the joy of brides who think white color is not flattering for their skin tone.

7

TIPS PROFESSIONAL MAKE-UP ARTIST

Hi girls! I am very happy to be here again sharing beauty tips that help us highlight our natural beauty, and speaking of‌ I want to share some 100% natural products that will make us look naturally beautiful! We live in a world where we have access to a variety of all-natural products and often we don t know how to make the most of it, so here I give you some advice on how to use and take advantage of products provided by nature.

When using natural products, such as fruit, it’s important to make sure that they are as fresh as possible.

Let’s start with the hair. We all want silky and

shiny hair. A mask of honey and olive oil is ideal! It improves your hair’s look, feel and manageability.

OLIVE OIL Olive oil is a rich emollient that conditions the hair and is beneficial for all hair types and ethnicities.

+ HONEY The honey contains vitamins, minerals, is antibacterial, acts as a humectant because it attracts the moisture, and has incredible healing properties.

SILKY AND SHINY HAIR

Olive oil and honey are a perfect match for a hair moisturizing mask, just add the following ingredients in a small bowl:

1. Pour about 5 tbsp. (71g) of olive oil. 2. Add small drops of honey, whisking constantly and continuing to add honey until the consistency of the mask is smooth, not overly sticky and manageable. You should be careful not to add too sticky. 3. With the mixture ready, massage the mask into damp hair until evenly distributed and fully saturated, cover your hair with a shower cap and allow the mask to soak in for 60 minutes. The heat that gets trapped inside the plastic will help the olive oil and honey absorb into the hair. 4. After the 60 minutes rinse the mask completely out of the hair and thoroughly with shampoo. 5. Use lukewarm or cool water to rinse and shampoo. This helps preserve the added shine.

we can make an avocado mask that helps moisturize our skin, because it is rich in oils and vitamin E that makes your skin look smooth. 1. Mix half avocado pulp with a little olive oil. 2. Apply the paste on clean face and leave on for 30 minutes, while you relax and listen to some music. 3. Remove with cold water and finish the routine by spraying rose water on the face. You will notice the difference immediately!

Nowwith let s mix bras your dress

Now let’s mix bras with your dress. Having read the information in our previous issue, now you know the importance of having the proper size of a bra for your wedding day. There is a wide variety to choose from depending on your shape, size and wedding dress.

STRAPLESS WEDDING DRESS You obviously need a strapless bra (or no bra at all if your breasts permit it). What you must be careful with is that your bra doesn’t peek out of the top of your dress. There are different kinds of strapless bras that fit into the right strapless cleavage: sweetheart strapless or a dress with strapless ultra-deep V- neckline, for example. Also, make sure the back of your bra doesn’t pick out from behind. It has to fit in harmony with the backline of your dress. Strapless bras do the trick also for spaghettistrap, asymmetric, off-the-shoulder,

Empire cut + deep v-neckline

Most wedding dresses that have an empire waist fit perfectly with a balconette bra or demi bra. This is a half cup bra style with wideset straps and horizontal bust line. These offer less support but enable low-cut garments to be worn without the bra being seen. Demi bras may do the trick to provide lift, as do push-up bras. Careful! Empire cut dresses can be also strapless, so then go for a strapless long line corset or a simple strapless bra.

STRAPLESS WEDDING DRESS & FULL BUST / PLUS SIZE I suggest a long-line strapless bra, which extends from your breasts to your waistline, almost like a corset. It gives more support for your back, plus it smoothes out your lines and accentuates your waist.

SHEATH WEDDING GOWNS I strongly suggest seamless underwear. It prevents ugly bumps under the dress and visible lines from panties or bras. Try a bodysuit, preferably in a thong style. Microfiber is best for a smooth silhouette.

There are a variety of plunging bras. You can also try convertible bras as they have a variety of strap options and multiple hooks, depending on your dress. Even adhesive bras can do the trick.

Ines Di Santo BACKLESS WEDDING DRESSES You might want to try an adhesive bra, which offers support in front and doesn’t have a back. There is a type of adhesive bra with support on the sides. If adhesive bras don’t work for you, you can try a convertible bra. If neither option works, have cups sewn in or ask to scoop out the back of a long-line bra. It works like miracle.

PANTIES Panties are easier to combine with your dress, as most dresses are loose on the bottom, so it makes it easier to match or choose the one you want without making a difference. What is the most important is that they fit perfectly and feel comfortable. Not too tight, not too loose. It shouldn’t ride up or roll down. Seamless bottoms are the best option, as they won’t create any ugly lines of bulges under your dress. If you are wearing a ball-gown style dress, your options are wider. Even a cute satin or lace short panties will work.

TRICKY STYLES? Tricky is everything that is tight on the hips or made from fabric so soft that everything is visible. Mermaid Wedding Dress: little lacey stretch thongs or any seamless underwear. They do miracles, as they don’t show any panty lines. You must find the perfect fit not to get some spillage, neither too lose that might give some ugly bumps to your dress. If you want smoothing or sucking in action, Spanks (Sassybax, Yummi Tummie or whatever brand you choose) are the answer. Might not be the most comfortable undergarments but they get the job done. Plus there are some sexy ones that won’t disappoint your groom on your wedding night. Fit tight to the waist/hip hugging dresses: In this case, it depends on the fabric. If it’s not a light fabric, you can use a corset that tucks you in and contours your waist up to your hips. If it’s a lighter fabric, then then I definitely suggest definitely seamless panties, lacey stretch thong or micro fiber seamless thong.

Fashion

MOST IMPORTANT:

Bring your underwear to your wedding dress fittings. When taking
measures, it does affect having different underwear than the one
you will actually wear on your wedding day. You might want to consider buying two of each, so that when you
try your wedding dress, you can choose the one that makes you look best and most importantly, the one that makes you feel confident. Talking about colors, it depends on your wedding dress color and the fabric of your gown. Nude lingerie works fine with any kind of wedding gown color. If choosing nude lingerie, try one shade darker than your skin for the best match. Nude lingerie is preferable to white undergarments. If you are wearing a heavy fabric gown that is totally opaque, then it’s fine to go with white.
Whatever your final choices for your wedding lingerie may be, be sure to take a second to think about the quality and once you’ve found your perfect underwear, take good care of it. Lingerie is delicate and should be hand-washed after every use so that body’s natural oil and dirt won’t accumulate on the fabric, which will lead it to loose its shape.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST, don’t forget to buy yourself a white cute robe for getting ready for your photo shoot. You will thank me later. Hope these tips are useful to you. Happy wedding lingerie shopping!

FIRST DAY OF THE REST

PHOTOGRAPHY: MIGUEL MARIN

Juan Jose and Martha Suzzethe chose August 17th for their wedding, as this was also the day when he proposed to his future wife. August is one of the best weather months in Rosarito, Baja California, the bride’s native town. A beautiful Catholic Ceremony took place in the main church of Rosarito, Nuestra Sra del Rosario de Fatima, where the couple entered to the sounds of a wedding march, accompanied by mariachi.

THE BRIDE’S BOUQUET, CREATED FROM WHITE ORCHIDS, HAD STEMS COVERED IN LACE.

The music of the ceremony moved many guests almost to tears. The mariachi were some of the best from Tijuana, a group called Aguila. And when the sounds of Ave Maria entered the church, sung by the angelic voice of Maryam Malak, everybody was moved. The church was decorated with light gerberas and roses, as the bride had always wanted. The bride’s dress was by Gabriela Saga, a young designer from Tijuana. Since Suzzethe had difficulty finding the dress she wanted, she ended up describing to Gabriela all the details she imagined, and the dress came out perfect. 96 MEXICO WEDDING MAG

The accessories of the bride followed the Mexican custom of “SOMETHING BORROWED” (beautiful earrings by Givenchy given to her by Doris Paullada), “SOMETHING NEW” (bracelets by Swarowski, a gift from Juan Jose and his sister and a tiara by Gabriela Saga) and “SOMETHING BLUE” (a garter belt also by Gabriela Saga)...

The dress code was beach formal attire. The bridesmaids wore dresses in mint green color and the family ladies - dresses in all the tones of azure, representing the Caribbean Sea in Tulum, very dear to the bride.

98 MEXICO WEDDING MAG

For the beach wedding, the groom chose a white suit by Calvin Klein. The most emotional moment came when the bride and the groom arrived to the altar. The two of them didn’t see each other before the ceremony, according to the tradition, and the groom laid his eyes on his beautiful bride only at the altar. It seemed that everybody was full of emotion, including the priest, who knew Suzzethe all her life, but kept forgetting her name every time he had to say it. When the happy newlyweds left the church, the reception took place at the famous Hotel & Restaurant Los Pelicanos in Rosarito, located right on the sea. For the menu, the restaurant served Ceasar salad, Paella and caramel flan for desert.

The music was by Mariachi Aguila de Tijuana, saxophone player Gerson Ramirez, DJ Cochas, a surprise appearance of opera singers (a gift from Olga Bravo, the wedding planner) and a northern music band from the region. The song at the reception was Love by Beatles and the First Dance was to the song Compartir by Carla Morrison. As soon as the dance floor opened, everybody ran to dance and didn’t stop till 5:30 AM. The 220 guests that attended the wedding from Italy, Germany, Spain, United States and Mexico were amazed by the bluegreen vintage glasses, live lovebirds that were reading love notes to everybody and the whole magic atmosphere. For their honeymoon, the newlyweds chose Paris for three days and a cruise in the Baltic Sea.

The decor style was Shabby Chic. It included white color with some green and blue details and the theme of lovebirds. The couple put a lot of heart into the decor – the tables were custommade, with different chairs for each one, white lace, cages and birds.

Morgane and Jorge met in November of 2003 in Morelos, where Jorge’s family has a summerhouse. Morgane came as a distant friend of his cousin. It was awkward in the beginning. Morgane didn’t feel at ease, and Jorge didn’t pay attention to yet another “friend of a friend” - until there was a coincidence that intrigued him. Her family lives in Rennes, a city in France where he was about to go to study for his Master’s degree. It seemed that destiny wanted them to know each other.

Morgane was excited and stunned… so many years of being together, and finally the big moment has arrived!

Some years went by, and the great surprise of engagement came on January 18th of 2012, on their anniversary. Jorge invited Morgane to Hotel Spa Sitio Sagrado of Tepotztlan in Morelos. The couple enjoyed a Spa in caves with natural pools and had a romantic couple’s massage in their suite with live harp’s music. The next surprise was a private dinner in a cave, with the staff helping to set the mood with the music and taking photos of the special moment, where Jorge asked Morgane to be his wife and the grandmother of his future grandchildren. Morgane was excited and stunned… so many years of being together, and finally the big moment has arrived!

The bride’s dress, by Maggie Sotero, was from Novias y Novias (N&N) from Mexico City. The dress had a tulle skirt, a heart-shaped neckline, a belt with gray crystals and was transparent above the waist. After going through about 50 dresses, this was the first one that Morgane tried, and the one that stayed. It was perfect for the beach and had a sentimental meaning, as she was taking ballet classes in France since she was 8. The groom’s suit had quite a story of its own! Jorge spent months looking for it online. The chosen one was a grey beach tuxedo by Calvin Klein, from a New York store. However, the suit got lost on the way and wasn’t arriving for two months. Jorge gave up and ordered another one. And surprise! The same day the new suit arrived to a friend in Las Vegas, the lost one arrived to Mexico after having traveled to Russia and back. Jorge was happy – the suit was perfect.

Why Mexico? We talk with Kimberly Richmond, a Mexican-American wedding planner and owner of Runaway Bride.

How did you become a wedding planner? What do you most enjoy about your job? The idea for Runaway Bride was born eight years ago when I was planning my own destination wedding from afar. During the process I realized how much I enjoyed what I was doing and what a tremendous need there was for someone like me (bi-lingual and bi-cultural). So I took the “plunge.”

What is your relationship with Mexico? I was born and raised in Mexico City and Mexico will always be home. There is a saying in Spanish that sums it up for me: “Como México no hay dos” (“Like Mexico, there is no other”).

What do you like about planning weddings in Mexico? Why is it special? I’d say what I love most is the warmth of the Mexican people. There is something very magical and spiritual about the culture. The other great thing about Mexico is that it is so diverse from beaches to jungles to colonial towns, there is something for everyone.

report

ZASIL STUDIOS

What are you favorite destinations in Mexico and why? San Miguel de Allende is very near and dear to my heart. This is a colonial gem set in central Mexico and a visit here is like stepping back in time. Picture cobblestone streets, horse-drawn carriages and the sound of church bells in the distance. A close second would be the Riviera Maya region. Total opposite, but equally amazing. The Riviera has powdery white beaches and turquoise Caribbean waters, and you have so much more than just the beach.

How to select a destination in Mexico? What are the factors to keep in mind? The destination should reflect the couple’s personality. For outdoorsy couples Tulum might be an ideal option. It’s untouched, rustic, chic and fascinating. Mexico City might be a great option for the urban couple seeking more of a cosmopolitan, sophisticated experience. The number one factor is weather at the destination. When booking a wedding during rainy season, you will have more negotiating power, but it also means more humidity and hotter temps. TWIN LENS

What are some of the most important things that brides who plan to get married in Mexico should have in mind?

THE DESTINATION SHOULD REFLECT THE COUPLE’S PERSONALITY.

The number one thing they need to do is go with the flow. Many things make Mexico unique... Mexico has such a colorful heritage from its cuisine to its music to its local handicrafts. Have a typical Mexican “fiesta” for your Welcome Cocktail and let people savor the delicious cuisine typical to whatever region you may be in. Hire a local trio to play during your cocktail hour. Include some local handicrafts in your welcome bags.

TWIN LENS

Does everyone need a wedding planner? A wedding planner can eliminate a lot of stress. For brides trying to plan a wedding while working a full time job can be a daunting task, and a good wedding planner will take care of all the follow-up with hotels and vendors - selecting a vendor or hotel blindly off the internet can be a scary thing.

What are some Mexican wedding traditions that you like? One of my favorites is “aros” (gold coins). Couples will exchange gold coins with one another during the ceremony (coins are handed over by someone in the bridal party) and each coin represents something different (from prosperity to wealth and happiness). Another fun tradition is Callejonada. In smaller towns a couple walks from the church to the reception site, followed by their guests. Mariachis and donkeys carrying barrels of tequila accompany the group. The guests drink tequila and sing with the mariachis along the way. A Mexican wedding usually doesn’t end until the last guest has left the dance floor. I love the “wow” factor of breakfast being served at 3AM... something that is not done at the U.S. weddings. It’s just wonderful to see everyone having a great time!

What do you think is the significance of a wedding ceremony? To me the significance of a wedding ceremony is for the couple to proclaim their love for one another in front of their closest friends and family, no matter what religion one is. Most of the weddings I do are non-denominational and more spiritual in nature.

What if...

you don’t fit into your dress?

GET SLIM TOGETHER!

TIPS FOR COUPLES FROM A PROFESSIONAL TRAINER As the big day approaches, your nerves are on edge and the sheer excitement sends your adrenaline levels rocketing through the roof. You feel agitated and nervous. All those different requirements of the wedding seem to be ganging up on you now, and the need to make sure everything is just right on the day means that stress becomes part and parcel of day-to-day life.

Choosing the dress is a crucial moment. This can be very exciting and enthralling, but it can also turn into a nightmare when you try on the dresses you like to find they don’t fit and it dawns on you that your body is in no shape to sport such special styles. Most couples reach this point in the same condition, unless they are in the habit of working out and eating healthily. Routine, work, lack of spare time and stress conspire to stop you from getting fit, while the accumulation of excesses week after week leaves you looking out of shape. If you have reached this state, then you will need to take decisive action to make sure you look great on your wedding day. A bad way to go about things would be to go on a very strict diet, which will only deplete your energy levels, increase your stress, undermine your performance and leave you in a foul

mood. Such circumstances are to be avoided at all costs as you prepare to tie the knot. The last months in the run-up to the big day are precisely when you will need to have plenty of energy, less stress and less moodiness, because this is the only way things will turn out right. Otherwise everything becomes a lot more complicated and tedious and you won’t enjoy your wedding, which is only supposed to happen once in your life. The following tips will help you get things right and enjoy everything with excitement and enthusiasm.

First of all, you need to plan at least six months ahead. If you can plan even further ahead, then better still, but six months are enough.

THE FOLLOWING IMPORTANT

QUESTIONS NEED TO BE ASKED: How long has it been since you last worked out on a regular basis? What do you normally eat during the week and on weekends? What do you normally drink and in what amounts? How much time could you set aside each day for exercise? Are you completely sure? Would you be able to start the plan today?

it takes two

THE FIRST STEP IS TO JOIN A GYM. THIS WILL PROVIDE YOU WITH PROFESSIONAL GUIDANCE TO PUT TOGETHER AN EXERCISE ROUTINE TAILOR-MADE TO SUIT YOUR SPECIFIC NEEDS.

THE SECOND STEP IS TO FIND A GOOD NUTRITIONIST WHO CAN DEFINE A PRECISE, HEALTHY AND EFFECTIVE DIET BASED ON YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES.

Bearing in mind that wedding preparations take two, this plan is for couples to improve their health and the way they look in a fun way and sharing the experience. If you are about to embark on a life together, then why not make these changes together, too? You should bear in mind that if you want to get rid of body fat, you have to turn it into fuel and burn it in training. This is why a low-fat, energy-rich diet is so important when it comes to training. It will make you feel livelier and more active. Remember that strictly following the diet is a crucial factor in achieving the results you want. Don’t forget that carrying out a good workout program but without following your diet to the letter will not bring you the results you want in the required timeframe. It’s

124 MEXICO WEDDING MAG

crucial to prepare mentally and make a commitment between the two of you. It’s easier and cheaper to follow the diet if you do it together and support each other all the time. It is in moments of weakness that you will need to be strong and stay focused on the ultimate objective. One recommendation is to write down clear and direct phrases on where you want to go on cards and put them somewhere you can see during your daily routine, for instance the bathroom mirror, the refrigerator, the car and at work. You can also take a photo in your undies exposing that body outline you don’t like and writing THIS IS GOING TO CHANGE. Carry it around with you and look at it whenever you have a moment of weakness. This will give you strength to overcome temptation.

ALWAYS LOOK FOR THE FINEST PIECE... INTERVIEW WITH DANIEL ESPINOSA, THE MAGICIAN OF MEXICAN SILVER

Thanks to the Mexican celebrity jewelry designer Daniel Espinosa, Mexican silver and jewelry designs have reached international admiration as never before. Born in Taxco town in Guerrero state, famous for its silver, he was able to transform this metal into something never seen before. Proudly Mexican and highly romantic, Daniel talks to us about how he feels about his country, about being famous, what led him to success and gives his best advice to brides on fashion trends and jewelry selection.

YOUR PORTRAIT HOW AND WHEN DID YOU DISCOVER YOUR PASSION FOR JEWELRY? I was born and raised in Taxco, the cradle of jewelry of all Latin America. So from a very young age I already knew that jewelry would be my passion. WHAT DID IT MEAN FOR YOU TO BECOME AN INTERNATIONAL STAR? Being on red carpets with celebrities from all over the world and from Mexico has been incredible. But what I enjoy the most is seeing a client wearing one of my pieces, seeing it being “empowered” and beautiful. This experience is the most memorable for me while I work in such countries as Italy, France, Spain or Russia. WHAT WAS YOUR BIGGEST INFLUENCE? Architecture is definitely my biggest influence when it comes to shaping jewelry into ready-to-wear pieces. I love traveling, and as Sagittarius I greatly enjoy going to new countries and exploring new spaces. These experiences become future inspiration and a theme of my new collections.

128 MEXICO WEDDING MAG

WHAT ARE YOUR MOST SIGNIFICANT ACHIEVEMENTS? I am very happy that many Mexican women feel Daniel Espinosa to be their own, someone they can be proud of. I also enjoy it very much to hear that they are now fluent in this new language of Mexican silver, which also crosses the borders and becomes stronger all the time.

SUCCESS MEANS: Recognizing that you have to fight for what you desire”.

WHAT DO YOU DREAM ABOUT? My biggest dream right now is to be present in boutique stores in as many countries as possible! I dream about cosmopolitan cities such as London, Lisbon, Paris… I still have a lot to achieve!

WHEN YOU STARTED YOUR PROFESSIONAL LIFE AS A DESIGNER, DID YOU EVER IMAGINE YOU WOULD ACHIEVE THE PRESTIGE AND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT YOU HAVE NOW? Honestly, I live my life day by day… Every new day for me means dealing with challenges that always present themselves, continuing to create and giving my country the international recognition that all the artists of this generation want to contribute to: showing Mexico that is modern, full of positive changes and creative without limits.

HOW DO YOU GET INSPIRED? Because I constantly travel to promote and present my work, I allow myself to get to know and enjoy every city or place I go to – I go for a walk and then suddenly, in some building’s terrace or some landscape, I discover a design that I was looking for, or a shadow that surprises me and eventually becomes transformed into an idea to be brought to the workshop and to be given life. WHAT IS YOUR ENGINE IN LIFE? My family, life itself, and being thankful for each day.

WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST? I love to read, I love the sea and when I can escape, I enjoy the solitude of early morning fishing during a high tide. WHAT DOES SUCCESS MEAN TO YOU? It means recognizing that you have to fight for what you desire, you have to take chances, to be at the right place at the right time, and most of all, you have to always give your best without expecting anything back!

infinito silver COLLECTION

ANY INTERESTING STORY? Some time ago we were presenting my collection in Switzerland with my team. They didn’t know our brand there and were completely surprised when we arrived with a very vibrant, extensive collection, presented in a beautiful, architecturally appealing space. So when new clients were arriving and asking them many questions – where is the brand from? where is the designer from? where is the team form? where are the jewels from? – the answer always was the same: from Mexico…

HOW DO YOU DEFINE YOURSELF TO YOURSELF?

Uninhibited, traveler, dreamer and very positive!

MEXICO & ROMANCE

HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT HAVING BECOME THE PROFIT IN YOUR OWN LAND? I am not one yet, I am still far from it, but I think I am on the right path, and if my example serves so that others also dare to do the same, we would make a big change! WHAT ARE THE FAVORITE PLACES FOR YOU IN YOUR BELOVED MEXICO? Among other places, I love Oaxaca, Zacatecas, Yucatan and of course Taxco, my home town.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE FOOD? Mexican - green mole. Spanish – Madrid-style stew (El Cocido Madrileño). WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO COUPLES THAT ARE CONSIDERING MEXICO AS THEIR WEDDING DESTINATION? You will discover that it’s not only a magical, fantastic place, but also that the warmth of Mexican people is something that will make you come back many more times. WHAT IS THE MOST ROMANTIC DESTINATION IN MEXICO? For me it’s Acapulco, with its breathtaking views of the bay and glamorous history. These are the magical ingredients to create romance that floats in the air all around you.

Taxco, Mexico

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO YOU TO BE A MEXICAN? Being Mexican makes me proud! Nothing is impossible in this country because of the unlimited creativity of its people. For me, Mexico means passion, color, life…

I love Oaxaca, Zacatecas, Yucatan and of course Taxco, my hometown”.

FOR THE BRIDE... THE IMPORTANCE OF ACCESSORIES ON THE WEDDING DAY? For the day of your wedding, less is more. Try to find the finest jewelry you can, make sure what you wear is balanced and focus on earrings. If you travel for your wedding, bring elegant pieces. They do not necessarily have to be expensive. What matters is the aesthetic look and peace of mind when you travel. WHAT ARE THE FASHIONABLE ACCESSORIES THIS TIME OF THE YEAR? This season, the fashionable color is GOLD. Maximalist necklaces are a MUST, and the same kind of bracelets on both wrists give a feeling of chic style as well as an image of a fashion connoisseur. COLORS AND TENDENCIES FOR THE NEXT SEASON? For the holiday season, white crystal stones will be in fashion, as well as pearls. The maximalist tendency will continue, while mixing contemporary pieces with vintage ones.

WHAT WOULD YOU ADVICE TO BRIDES WHEN THEY ARE CHOOSING THEIR JEWELRY? Always look for the finest pieces that are discreet and of eternal beauty. WHAT ARE THE ACCESSORIES THAT A BRIDE MUST HAVE ON HER WEDDING DAY? It depends on the personality of the bride, but there is nothing better than a nice pair of earrings, and maybe also a tiara or discreet headdress. DO YOU ALSO PRODUCE CUSTOM-MADE PIECES? My collection is very extensive, so anybody will be able to find what they are looking for!

How to keep your dress perfect throughout the big day?

S.O.S

Your wedding dress… You dreamed about it, searched for it, and found the one and only that fits you perfectly. Now it’s time to learn how to protect it throughout your wedding day.

DRESS

DILEMMAS,

SOLVED

TAKE IT WITH YOU For a destination wedding that involves air travel, never check your dress as luggage! Either ship it to your destination well ahead of time or carry it on the plane. Most airplanes have a coat closet they can hang it in and knowing exactly where it is will give you much needed peace of mind.

1.

You might not realize it, but it’s quite common that a wedding dress tears, rips, is delivered late, has fitting problems (too tight or too loose), gets stained, someone steps on it, etc.

While certain things cannot be controlled, there are certainly steps you can take.

2. GIVE IT SPACE When you arrive at your hotel, arrange for a space to hang your dress where not too many people can enter – this way, you will save it from being grabbed and touched.

3.

PUT TEMPTATIONS AWAY Make sure to keep anything that might stain it (chocolate, red wine, etc.) away from it. When getting ready, try to only have the people you need in the room with you. Crowds can lead to a mess and messes can lead to mishaps.

IN CASE OF EMERGENCY...

4.

It’s a good idea to have an “emergency” kit, which should have safety pins, sewing kit, stain remover wipes, double sided tape, etc. When things go wrong, these little details can be lifesavers!

6.

GIVE IT ANOTHER TRY Try your dress on a few days before your wedding, to make sure the last months didn’t make it too lose or too tight for you. Then you would still have enough time to make the last adjustments.

5.

FREEZE IT WHILE IT’S PERFECT . It’s advisable to have your photos taken before the wedding party, because inevitably, people will touch, hug and kiss you, and the result will be some stains, which you don’t want to have in your wedding photos.

And most importantly, relax and shine! You are the one that makes your dress look fabulous.
