KEN DAGGETT “Rio Grande Country” May 12 - May 24
For plein artist Ken Daggett, subject matter never runs short when you live in a geographically rich place, such as northern New Mexico. Depending on which way he heads from his home in Taos, the mighty Rio Grande river or the high alpine mountains are never too far from Daggett’s easel. This famous river and the land that it dissects has been inspiration for the paintings in “Rio Grande Country”. Braving the elements and moving fast, the artist, can often complete two to three paintings during one day’s excursion. Daggett’sgoal is to try and capture the scene as it happens. It is a test he relishes, however, as it allows him not only to capture a specific moment in time but also to condense various elements of the day into one scene. Further, he can quickly and accurately convey his own experiences to viewers. Such a process lends an element of extra authenticity to his paintings.
