Brad Price is a skilled, Oklahoma painter whose works reflect his love for northern New Mexico and his affinity for romanticism. He draws inspiration from the early Taos painters and Post- Impressionist styles, characterized by their use of bold complementary color and strong contrasts. Price credits his development as a painter to his admiration and study of New Mexico’s early masters and his use of simultaneous color contrast to bring nature to life in his work.
In Price’s own words, “The creation of art is an act of sharing experience and forging new moments of beauty for the world.” He employs an Alla Prima technique to create impasto on his canvases in directional brushstrokes. His paintings are a celebration of the beauty and wonder of the natural world, inviting the viewer to experience the landscapes he depicts in all their vibrancy and vitality.
Price’s artistic process involves stopping frequently to photograph the landscape, resulting in a stunning collection of 30 new paintings featuring the canyons, golden chamisa, cottonwoods, and adobe churches of New Mexico. His dedication and attention to detail have earned him recognition and acclaim, including having one of his paintings selected for the cover of the city of Santa Fe 2012 Visitor Guide.
“I need a bumper sticker that says ‘I brake for beauty,’” muses Price. “When I go out there, I will stop every mile and take pictures, drive and stop, drive and stop.”
Brad Price’s paintings are a celebration of the natural world, and his passion for capturing its beauty is evident in every stroke of his brush. Join us at Meyer Gallery on Friday, May 26th from 5-7pm for the unveiling of the newest body of artworks by Brad Price.
