The collaboration between Miami Country Day School and Breakthrough Miami combines two communities with a common goal: the expectation that our students can achieve their dreams through education. Miami Country Day School provides a college preparatory environment focused on educating the whole child — in the classroom and beyond — through the core values of honor, respect, wisdom, and compassion. Miami Country Day School instills these same values in scholars who participate in Breakthrough Miami by providing significant site and in-kind resources on campus. Breakthrough Miami and Miami Country Day have joined together to assist students from under-resourced schools throughout Miami-Dade County. This collaboration just completed its 5th year of success, and we look forward to more life-changing results as we work to bridge the achievement gap together.

Miami Country Day School is committed to providing access to independent schools, and our financial aid program demonstrates our commitment to that goal. The Trustee Scholarship for Breakthrough Miami Scholars promotes socioeconomic diversity at the school and provides an opportunity for qualified students to reach their full potential. The award is a “good-throughgraduation” scholarship, which is awarded annually to two deserving Breakthrough Scholars entering 6th grade, who far exceed the expectations of what it means to be a Breakthrough Scholar and a Miami Country Day School student. Beyond the Breakthrough Miami Trustee Scholarships, Miami Country Day also provides need-based financial aid. In 2014-15, 29 Breakthrough scholars, including six named Trustee scholars received need-based aid.

“Being the first Breakthrough Miami student [enrolled at Miami Country Day] was hard because it was a culture shock. I didn’t know what to expect from the community, nor did I know what the community expected from me. Looking back, now I can understand and appreciate the experiences I’ve had. It lets me know that I can face and overcome any challenge that may come my way.”
