Lower School After School ClubProgram

Miami Country Day School is proud to invite your children to join in our After School Club Program. These clubs are specifically designed for our Lower School students and are a wonderful way for them to participate in an organized after school activity. The Winter 2021 Session is now open for registration for students in grades PK3-5th. This is our first full season of clubs this year, designed specifically with COVID policies and protocols in mind. Each club is taught by a professional and is geared toward enhancing your child’s overall school experience. DISMISSAL INFORMATION Clubs take place Monday through Friday from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM. At school dismissal time, all children are sent to the club sign-in room. When clubs are finished, pick up is at the Lower School turnaround. Every student must be signed-out. They will be supervised until 4:45 PM. PARENTS: PLEASE READ ALL THE INFORMATION IN THIS BROCHURE. IT WILL ANSWER ALL QUESTIONS THAT YOU MAY HAVE INCLUDING DATES AND TIMES (BEGINNING AND END DATES AS WELL AS DAYS OFF) Please make sure you register on CampBrain. This will be the only way you will be able to register for After School Clubs. It is an online registration and payment portal. You can access the online registration portal by visiting miamicountryday.campbrainregistration.com. Once a club is filled, we can no longer accept participants due to club enrollment limits. We strive to make each club an enjoyable and safe experience for all students. Therefore, there will be no exceptions to this policy. No refunds will be given after the first week. Important Registration Procedures At Miami Country Day School, your child’s experience in our After School Club Program is very important to us. We strive to make each experience enjoyable and safe. Any rules that we institute are to ensure your child’s safety and enjoyment of the club program above all else. Please refer to the Lower School Handbook for specific behavior and expectation policies. Again, we must emphasize that these rules are put in place for your child’s safety. Complying with all rules and policies will make the After School Club experience more enjoyable for all. Please help us continue to make the club program one of the best! ENROLLMENT INFORMATION Clubs begin the week of January 11th 2020. Clubs do fill up quickly; therefore, once a club is filled, there will be no further enrollment. There will be no refunds after the first week (you will be charged for the first week that your child attended). There are no exceptions to this policy. SIGNING OUT OF CLUBS At MCDS, our students’ security is of the utmost importance. If picking up early, you must notify Ian McNamara by email or phone. CLUB MEMBERS ONLY Some students may plan to go home with friends after clubs or have a friend with him/her who is not registered for our club program. These students are not permitted to join in a club, even for one day. Only registered club members may attend club sessions. PAYMENT PROCEDURE Please make sure you register on CampBrain. PROGRAM POLICIES 1. Notification from a parent is required for the following: • If your child is to be picked up by someone other than yourself • If your child is to go home with another child • If your child is not attending clubs on a particular day, please make changes in Schoolpass • If you would like to make a scheduling change concerning clubs 2. All clubs are on a first-come, first-serve basis. There is limited space in many of the clubs, so please sign up early. No exceptions. 3. If your student does not wish to continue in a club after the first meeting, you are entitled to a refund for the remaining weeks. Immediately notify Ian McNamara if your child wishes to withdraw after the first meeting. 4. If you chose to switch clubs after the first session, please understand that you will be charged for your second choice and you will not be able to receive a refund from this should you wish to cancel. 5. Our school policy does not allow for the use of cell phones in Lower School; this is being extended to After School Clubs. After School Clubs reserves the right to confiscate phones and hand them back at club dismissal. 6. Please ensure your child is picked up NO LATER than 4:45pm Thank you for your cooperation!

Aviation Do you love flying machines- airplanes, gliders, helicopters, slingshots? Learn important principles of aviation and the science of flight is in this STEM program, while having great fun! You will build and actually fly our high-soaring models. How far will yours go? How high will it climb? Why does it fly? It’s the perfect time flying fun-and you’ll learn important STEM facts too! Attention aspiring aviators - get ready for a steady flight! Ballet Nexplore’s Ballet Program is designed to help dancers create a strong foundation through repetitive movement, ballet vocabulary, discussion, and exploration. Dancers will learn all about music, movement, coordination, spatial relations, and the basics of ballet that will hopefully lead to many fun-filled years of dancing and self-expression. Classroom focus will be on appropriate etiquette, respect for others, and self-confidence, as well. Capoeira Classes incorporate not just the capoeira moves, but also stories, music, games, and regional dances to awaken their creative spirit. Kicking and self-defense will be taught with the values brought to you as well by Capoeira. Capoeira cultivates a positive attitude, teamwork, respect, and commitment, and raises awareness about the importance of community and culture. We want kids to be kids, while at the same time understanding life’s values and responsibilities. Crayola Artist’s Passport Embark on an around-the-world cultural adventure - explore far-off places and learn about the people who live there, from the Americas to Polynesia, from the cosmopolitan to the countryside. Experiment with Crayola® products, while trying art techniques developed by local artists and artisans. Make different masterpieces each week such as drums, masks, canvases, prints, buses, and more! Bring the unique creations home and build a globally inspired art gallery. Crayola World Of Design Take a journey to the farthest reaches of the imagination while learning about the ocean, the rain forest, Mars, and a futuristic city, and more! Use the design thinking process to solve real-world problems in these different environments. In this class we will introduce you to the endless world of DJ-ing. Learn how to read, analyze and mix music while adding your own unique DJ style to your mixes. Become a pro with Serato, the world's most popular DJ software. Get familiar with NumarkController mixers, an all inclusive DJ controller with an expanded layout of professional controls. Fashion Have you ever wanted to create your own wardrobe? This semester you will have your chance! Learn how to use your trend-setting, fashion ideas to create one-of-a-kind wearable garments of your very own, and make your design dreams a reality. We’ll teach you all you need to know about garment design and creation, from choosing a design and sketching, to final fitting! This class is suitable for beginner to advanced-level designers, as we will be sewing by hand! To top it off, you’ll strut your stuff and proudly display your new, unique designs in a fashion show for friends and family! All designs are yours to keep at the end of class! Hip Hop This class is designed for the kids who just love to move and groove! This class combines Jazz and Hip Hop in a fun and age appropriate way! We learn the basic techniques of both genres and create exciting and energetic dances. Our classes fill dancers with energy and excitement while focusing on Jazz and Hip Hop technique from classic styles to new modern aspects. This class combines some modern dance, Hip Hop skills and acrobatics in a way that fuses all styles together for a fun and educational hour. Harry Potter Club Through arts & crafts, creative writing and even some acting we make wands, sort houses, recreate our own potions, book of spells and even performing skits. This club involves students writing alternate endings, their own magic spells and creating potions form household items. Harry Potter crafts and games such as creating your own wand, and wizard chest! Let us not forget about the Harry Potter bean boozled Challenge. Junior Soccer This club is an introduction to soccer, and the focus will be on fun and developing confidence. Each session will include drills and a scrimmage. This club uses a variety of games to delight and engage kids in physical activity. The curriculum is designed to develop motor skills, promote physical fitness, and create self-confidence in young children. It stresses a non-competitive environment and promotes fun above all else. Get ready for soccer. Lacrosse Lacrosse combines the basic skills used in soccer, basketball, and hockey into one fast paced, high scoring game. Athletes will learn all the fundamentals of stick handling, cradling, passing, and shooting, all in a fun, non-checking environment. Our staff will ensure that students not only learn the sport of lacrosse, but also important life skills such as respect, teamwork, and discipline. Every athlete will walk away with a deep understanding of the game and its traditions. Equipment is provided.


Makers Club The Makers Club is STEAM program designed to inspire kids to pursue futures in science & technology with our fun Maker Kits that enhance mechanic, art and engineering skills. Students interact with Maker Kits as creators in their own right and learning how to use tools and to invent useful machines. Students design a variety of technologies and they get to keep their inventions and proudly share their projects with family and friends. Magical Unicorn Club If you love Unicorns this ls the perfect after school club for you. We will make projects that sparkle, dazzle and shine as we use a wide array of materials and techniques. Each student will create their very own Magical story about themselves and their pet unicorn. You will even learn the recipe for Magical Unicom snot. If you love unicorns, then you will love Magical Unicorn Club! Nature Watch Nature Watch makes environmental science come alive with exclusive artistic activity kits! Every Nature Watch activity kit brings the outdoors inside with a hands-on project designed to engage, enlighten, and enliven the learning process. Each course covers one important topic, like animals, ecosystems, climate, and more! All kits include a scientific craft that the student will make and proudly take home. Photography In this day and age photography is everywhere, with many platforms to share our day to day lives and adventures with friends and family. In this class we offer your young creatives a chance to explore their creative side with top line digital cameras and DSLR’s. Knowing how to use your camera is very important as there are many functions to make your images stronger. We will explore different types of photography and experiment with fun exciting projects. By the end of this class your young ones will have a full understanding of cameras, photography and develop a keen eye for creating beautiful images along with a portfolio. RoboCoding gives students a hands-on introduction to the fundamentals of both coding and robotics, allowing them to build and execute programs in the real world! With award-winning Cubelets kits, students combine robotic cubes–each with their own unique function–to create machines that can light up, move, and interact with the world around them. Students gain an in-depth understanding of fundamental concepts like inputs, outputs, and processing, and discover how simple building- blocks can come together to perform more complex tasks. By working together to solve coding and building challenges, students also reinforce essential life skills like teamwork, communication, and problem-solving. Science Wiz students will dive deep into one of the following scientific concepts: electricity, inventions, sound, energy, physics, light, DNA, magnetism and more! Student will receive their very own Science Wiz™ kit to explore fundamental scientific ideas through handson play and activities and conduct experiments, many of which they will bring home to share with family and friends. World of Magic Welcome to the World of Magic where every child is a star! In this unique course, students build self-confidence, performance skills, and theatrical charm to wow their audience with tricks from their very own magic kits! New to the world of magic? This is the perfect place to start! This course offers an experienced instructor, a step-by-step guidebook, and access to tutorial videos so children can continue their practice at home. Yoga Is a combination of exercise, breath, control, relaxation, and positive thinking aimed at developing harmony in the individuals life. The practice keeps you physically active while also strengthening your muscles through proper stretching / movement. Most people are familiar with the yoga poses or positions but don’t actually know that yoga involves so much more. Zumba This is a fun, high-energy fitness class packed with specially choreographed routines and games for children using the latest music and rhythms like hip-hop, reggaeton, cumbia and salsa. Zumba® Kids classes inspire kids to express themselves through movement and play while effectively improving overall health and well-being. Educators love Zumba Kids® because of the effects it has on children: increasing focus, building self-confidence, enhancing creativity and coordination, boosting metabolism, and implementing teamwork skills. Each class is headed by a trained and licensed Zumba® Kids fitness instructor. Classes not only include music and dance, but arts, crafts, and cultural education, as well. It is a fun way for kids to keep healthy and motivated! 3-D Art Rods In our Art Rods Program your students will learn the basics of 3D design, sculpting and modeling, which will release their creativity and let their imaginations go in this fun and engaging art program. We use an inventive and fun material called Art Rods which is a brand-new modeling material, a foam rod with wire core which is perfect for prototyping inventions, creating art, teaching children alphabet letters, or assisting STEAM kids. It is fun, colorful, squishy, and an extreme creativity tool. Your students can make dozens of objects like Animals, Airplanes, Pencil holders, flowers and more. They will take home their creations to share with their family and friends.
