our vision our mission No One is Homeless
Transform the lives of homeless men, women, and children through comprehensive residential programs to effect lasting change and empower them to be productive members of society. We provide food, clothing, shelter, substance abuse treatment, education, computer literacy, job placement, healthcare, spiritual development and housing with Christian love, compassion, and encouragement.
SUMMER OF HOPE Dear Friend, I pray all is well with you and your loved ones. Summer will soon be here and already this year we have seen 350 formerly homeless men and women complete our programs, find employment, obtain housing, and start new lives. Our Centers are filled and we are preparing for the hot and rainy summer months. Thousands of men, women, and children are still in need. I’m very thankful for you and so many others who are concerned about those without homes and in vulnerable situations in our communities. All that we do every day is actually very simple – help men, women, and children break the cycle of homelessness and become succuessful in life. Help us with our Summer of Hope campaign to continue to see even more lives changed.
Blessings,
Rev. Ronald Brummitt President Miami Rescue Mission Broward Outreach Centers
Youth Fair Collects 10,000 Cans Once again, Miami Rescue Mission and Broward Outreach Centers partnered with the Miami-Dade County Youth Fair. They offered fairgoers a chance to ‘Give a Meal, Get a Deal’ by offering a $4 admission discount with the donation of 2 canned food items. People from all over the county came out to show
support and donate their canned food items. This gave families and individuals the chance to spend the day at the fair for a great price while also giving back to those in need. The event was a huge success, allowing the Centers to collect over 10,000 cans of food to help feed those who are hungry.
Volunteers Show Some Love At Miami Rescue Mission and Broward Outreach Centers, volunteers are always loved and welcomed! On a daily basis, volunteers from all over South Florida touch the lives of men, women, and children who are homeless and in need by giving their time and talent. Volunteers are involved in many parts of the Centers including serving meals, helping in the Bargain Barn, playing
with the children, and much more. A team of volunteers from Beards & Babes, Live Fierce, and 103.5 The Beat came together to provide haircuts and a day of fun for the children at the Community Activity Center. Special guests Princess Tiana and Cat in the Hat, along with great music and activities, made it great day for all who were involved.
PRACTICING SPIRITUAL DISCIPLINE Mark felt very neglected as a child. He began partying, doing drugs, and hanging around the wrong crowd at a young age. Mark identified as an atheist. One day as Mark was expressing his atheist views to a Christian man, the Holy Spirit knocked him down. The man told him that Christians believe everyone is the same in God’s eyes. This shattered the foundation of what Mark previously believed, and he began to follow the Lord. Mark began going to church, but struggled getting connected. He fell into a rut and experienced internet addictions. He was going to church on Sundays, but not living like a Christian outside of church.
Thousands Served during Thanksgiving on Good Friday Thousands gathered this Easter Season at Miami Rescue Mission and Broward Outreach Centers for the annual Thanksgiving on Good Friday Outreach. A traditional Thanksgiving-style meal was served to all who attended. This year’s theme, Physical and Spiritual Healing, focused on providing those who are homeless, hungry, and in need with food, showers, haircuts, foot and clinical care, as well as prayer and community. Over 500 volunteers came together to help make this a special day for those who are in need by serving food, handing out clothing and hygiene bags, praying with outreach attendees, and washing feet. Volunteers from Barry University’s podiatry program treated many in need of foot care. Guest speakers delivered messages of hope and change on each campus. In Pompano, Dr. Linda Washington from Broward College Nursing Department addressed the crowd with an uplifting speech. In Hollywood, Homeless Program Coordinator, Laurie-Ann Walton from the Hollywood Police Department spoke about all the resources available for the homeless in the city. In Miami, Jimmy Cefalo, former Miami Dolphins player and host of the radio morning show on WiOD came as an honorary guest.
During the event, the Easter Bunny welcomed the children and almost 500 Easter baskets were given out. Most importantly, more men and women took the step to start down a new path by signing up for one of the life-changing programs offered by Miami Rescue Mission and Broward Outreach Centers. These programs provide individuals in need with food, shelter, clothing, education, job-skill training, spiritual guidance, and much more to help them transition into successful, productive individuals in our society.
Trying to escape from himself, Mark put all his possessions in storage and went to the streets. He had suicidal thoughts and was angry. Before long, a friend took him to Miami Rescue Mission. Mark wasn’t sure if he wanted to stay until he realized that what he really needed was spiritual discipline.
“God spoke to me and said… ’You need discipline. Stay here, get away from yourself, and learn discipline. Get yourself cleaned up so I can use you for a vessel of honor rather than dishonor.” Now Mark is working in the media department for his CSA where he is enjoying seeing a whole new part of Miami Rescue Mission he didn’t even know existed.

It was a hard fought battle for both teams during the Miami Rescue Mission versus Broward Outreach Centers Alumni Basketball Game in March. The game gave residents of the men’s centers in both Miami and Broward a chance to work as a team and bring out some competitive spirit. It was a close game to the finish, but the men from Broward Outreach Center pulled ahead in the final seconds, defeating Miami Res-
cue Mission by only one point. Players, staff, and fans are all looking forward to another great game in the future.
Even More Women Are COVERED Cover Girls, a group of South Florida women are dedicated to keeping women and children in need COVERED. The Cover Girls group focuses on mentoring women, raising funds, and building awareness for women and children coming out of homelessness and domestic violence. Miami Rescue Mission and Broward Outreach Centers not only celebrate St. Patrick’s Day on March 17, but also Staff Serve Day. Staff from all campuses had the opportunity on this day to take part in serving a meal to the residents at the Centers. Although all of the staff work to ultimately help those in need, many do not work directly with those individuals. Staff Serve Day allows all employees to see their work in action by serving a meal directly to those who are homeless and in need.
