Do your thoughts run off in all different directions causing your behavior to be less than desirable? This post will give you ideas of how to manage your thoughts and behavior to improve how you deal with the challenges of life day to day. 1. Meditate daily Meditation is a way to train the mind much in the way that fitness is a way to train the body. Start with ‘concentration’ meditation by focusing on a single point. Watching the breathing, focusing on one visual such as a candle flame and listening to soft repetitive music is a good start for the beginner. You may only be able to do this for a few minutes at first but will be able to increase the length in time. 2. Observe your thoughts Learn to observe your thoughts instead of judging them. Tell yourself that if you have a bad thought that it is neither good nor bad but it is just that, a thought. Don’t beat yourself up over it. It is from this point what you do with that thought that determines if it’s good or bad, right or wrong. Be the observer of your thoughts even the uncomfortable ones. This in time will give you a better understanding of what you are thinking and why. Learning to understand your thoughts whether good or bad is a skill that everyone can benefit from. If you start following these steps to understanding why you are thinking what you are thinking, you will soon find a balance where your thoughts line together and not scatter all over the place.
