FROM THE CHAIRMAN & PLANNING COMMITTEE Greetings Kappa Brothers, family, and friends of VSU. Welcome to the 16th Annual Kappa Alpha Psi Homecoming Reunion Awards Dinner at our home high above the Appomattox on the Campus of Virginia State University. We are here this evening to celebrate our unique beginnings that started at VSU. Sixteen years ago, Alpha Phi Chapter Alumni started efforts to contact with their line brothers. This endeavor has grown into a “Reunion” for all VSU Alumni and friends during homecoming weekend festivities. The event looks to bring people together from around the world to one of the most enjoyable and celebrated homecomings in America. The event not only serves as a reunion, but now serves as the forum for an annual scholarship drive and acknowledges outstanding individuals achieving in their careers and leaving amazing legacies. The members of the Alpha Phi Chapter Alumni, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. are committed to making a difference in the lives of students at Virginia State University. Each year, we support students financially who are enrolled in the university by awarding scholarships. These funds are supported through tax-deductible donations. Three Scholarship Endowments; Reginald F. Lewis, Kappa Alpha Psi, Alpha Phi Chapter Alumni Endowment; Dr. Billy Taylor Kappa Alpha Psi Endowment Fund; and Bishop Warren Brown, Kappa Alpha Psi Endowment Fund have been established for this purpose. In mid-April 2004, Brothers Bill Bailey, Harold Dean, and Preston M. Royster proposed a get-together/reunion at the 2004 VSU Homecoming. The first reunion was held on October 8, 2004 at the Piccadilly’s Restaurant in Colonial Heights Virginia. Several Alpha Phi Chapter Brothers, family members, and friends were present in addition to the 1958 and 1960 lines. As the Alpha Phi Chapter Alumni looked for a greater purpose, Brother Frasier Brickhouse reminded us of the importance of establishing a legacy and giving back to the university. The Homecoming Awards Dinner was established, and thus the “MOVEMENT” started at VSU. The awards dinner acknowledges Alpha Phi Brothers achieving their 50-year Anniversary, along with presentations of the Lifetime Achievement Awards, Alpha Phi Legacy Award, and the T.H.E. Jones Award, for distinguished Brothers form Delta Lambda, St. Paul’s University. We thank-you for your attendance and support for the 16th Annual Scholarship Awards Dinner. We hope you enjoy tonight’s event. Also, a special thanks to the committee that sacrificed their time, travel, and resources to plan this special occasion God Bless you and we wish everyone good health, happiness, and a prosperous year! Chairman, Col. Earnest A. Bazemore (Ret, U.S. Army) (Alpha Phi ‘83)
