Sally won the 25K National Championship at the Fifth Third River Bank Run in 2009 and loved Michigan so much she ran again at the Crim 10 Mile the same season. She was 4th that day in a loaded national field including Molly Huddle and Magdalena Lewy Boulet. We interviewed Sally after that race: 6 minutes into the Crim 10 Mile: Video: http://michiganrunner.tv/2009crim/ The Arizona Republic reports: "Rreigning P.F. Chang's Rock n Roll Arizona Marathon women's champion Sally Meyerhoff died on Tuesday in Maricopa, Ariz., after colliding with a pickup truck as she was riding a bicycle. She was 27. A former standout at Duke University, Meyerhoff finished 15th at the NCAA Outdoor Championships and 18th at the USA Outdoor Championships in the 10,000 meters during her senior year. While at Duke, Meyerhoff won several ECAC titles, which included the outdoor 5,000m in 2004, and the indoor 3,000m in 2005. She was an NCAA All-American in cross country in 2004 and in track in 2006. She graduated from Duke with a degree in history in 2007. Meyerhoff was also a star as a prep athlete at Mountain Pointe High School in Phoenix, where she was a seven-time state champion in the 1,600m and 3,200m. In competing against many of the nation’s finest high school runners, Meyerhoff finished in twelfth place at the 2001 Foot Locker Cross Country Championships in Orlando, Fla. In 2009, Meyerhoff won the USA 25 km Women’s Championship in 1:27:28, and most recently finished 13th (1:15:24) at the 2011 USA Half-Marathon Championships in Houston, Texas. Meyerhoff’s personal best times included 33:03.19 for 10,000m, 1:12:52 for the half-marathon and 2:35:49 for the marathon from her P.F. Chang’s win in her hometown of Phoenix in January. Her performance qualified her for a second appearance at an Olympic Trials marathon." =========================================== Two National Titles in a Row for Grand Valley Women =========================================== The hotbed of college running in Michigan has extended West to Grand Valley State University.

========================================== Michigan Skier TV: Treetops Amazing Race, Gaylord ========================================== The winners' secret? Running. It's no coincidence that winning team included some cross country runners. http://michigangolfer.tv/miskier/season_10/amazingrace/ ================================================================================= Running Network's Mr. Ubiquitous - GRAND CANYON, LAS VEGAS, PHOENIX (Feb 27- Mar 14) ================================================================================= Mr. Ubiquitous, aka Gary Morgan, reports: Part I It's been an adventure out here in the beautiful Desert Southwest for the last two weeks. On my way to Las Vegas I drove through the a couple of National Monument parks. They were the Sunset Crater National monument and the Wupatki National Monument. It was cool to see all the black volcanic rock mixed in with the snow at the crater and the Native American Indian ruins at Wupatki Monument. Then on to the one of the seven natural wonders of the world. The Grand Canyon, as they say about this canyon, it's not the deepest, or the widest, or the longest, but it is the largest and thats why it's called the Grand Canyon. 277 miles long, 18 miles wide and 1 mile deep, it covers a lot of the ground. John Wesley Powell was the first American to truly explorer and investigate this incredible place back in the 1880's. I drove in the east entrance on the south rim and stopped at the watch tower at desert view.

Which is a observation point built in 1932 as a recreation of towers found in the prehistoric times in the desert southwest. It provided some fantastic views of the canyon. Then on to the Visitor center area and some great viewing points looking over the canyon. Got some great photos of the sunset. Went over to the Village and stopped at the El Tovar hotel that was opened over 100 years ago. Six Presidents have stayed here since Theodore Roosevelt was the first; he authorized the Grand Canyon to become a National monument in 1908. In 1919 it became a National Park . There was a list on the wall of all the presidents who have stayed there. It's a beautiful building just a couple hundred feet from the rim of the canyon. That was my quick stop at the canyon as I headed out in the dark for Las Vegas 275 miles away. I arrive into the town that truly never sleeps and the entertainment capital of the World at about 2 AM. I'm staying at the Stratosphere which is that huge tower you can see from 20 miles away. I get there and call it a night as it was a ong day. Next day I head over to the Bikram yoga studio I went to in December. I walked in and the instructor remembered me. Where ever I travel, I try to find a Bikram yoga studio so I can stretch out from sitting and running. I's nice to find other people who want to live a healthy life style when you travel. Part II next week. ============================ Michigan Runner Race Series 2011 ============================ St. Patrick's Day Races 8K, Bay City - March 20 Striders Saturday Classic, 10 Mile, Grandville - April 23 Fifth Third River Bank Run 25K, Grand Rapids - May 14 Alma Highland Festival 8 Mile, Alma - May 28 Dexter Ann Arbor Half Marathon, Ann Arbor - June 5 Brian Diemer Amerikam 5K, Cutlerville/Grand Rapids - June 11 National Cherry Festival 15K, Traverse City - July 9 Steve's Run 10K, Dowagiac - July 30 Crim Festival of Races 10 Mile, Flint - August 27 Labor Day 30K, Milford - September 4 Mackinac Island 8 Mile Road Race, Mackinac Island - September 10 Detroit Free Press/ Flagstar Marathon, Detroit - October 16 ============================ Great Performances - Indoor Track ============================ Complete results: http://ncaasports.com/track-and-field/schedules -- NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships, College Station, TX, Texas A & M, Friday, March 11, 2011 - Saturday, March 12, 2011 2nd) 800meter run, Jillian Smith, Michigan, 2:04.78 -- NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships, Albuquerque, NM, Albuquerque Convention Center, iday, March 11, 2011 - Saturday, March 12, 2011, P. 8
