========================================== Michigan Runner TV: Crim Festival of Races ========================================== From interviews with Catherine and Samuel Ndereba and Bill Rodgers to watching an exuberant Fasil Bizuneh capture his first national championship, we celebrate the Crim's largest field yet. http://michiganrunner.tv/2010crim ============================================================================= Michigan Runner TV: Interviews with Mick Stanko, Marybeth Reader & Eric Green ============================================================================== When Michigan Runner magazine presented awards to Michigan Runner of the Year, Nick Stanko, and Michigan Master Runners of the Year Marybeth Reader and Eric Green, we took advantage of the opportunity to interview three of Michigan's most talented runners. (Awards also are going to Michigan Female Runner of the Year, Sarah Plaxton, Senior Runners of the Year Kevin Deyo and Monica Joyce and Contributor of the Year Jeff Crumbaugh.) http://michiganrunner.tv/2010mroy/ ============================================================================ Michigan Runner TV: St. Patrick's Day Race, Bay City Preview with Ann Gasta ============================================================================ Flint's Saginaw Street was sporting new banners honoring the Crim. On a closer look, the banners also recognized members of the Crim Fitness Foundation's Chairman's Circle. Very cool! One such member with her very own banner is Bay City's Ann Gasta. As race director of the St. Patrick's Day Race, Ann has moved this Bay City race into the big leagues. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8TAeC4ciSJ8 ============================================================================== Tsegaye, Dado confirmed to chase Canadian All-comers record for women at Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront ============================================================================== (Editor's note: Firehiwot Dado won the Fifth Third Riverbank Run and the Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon in May 2010) "TORONTO. August 31st. Ethiopians Tirfi Beyene Tsegaye and Firehiwot Dado have been confirmed to start the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon on Sunday, September 26th, and lead an assault on the Canadian All-comers marathon record for women. That mark, of 2:26:01, was set by Roumania’s Lidia Simon at the World Championships in Edmonton in 2001. The 25 year old Tsegaye ran a sparkling 2:24:51 to place 3rd at the Paris Marathon this Spring, and Dado has been the Rome

women’s champion for the past 2 years. She clocked a PR of 2:25:28 for the victory this March. Together, they will lead an impressive group of Ethiopian women, with the hopes of continuing their country’s dominance on the Toronto Waterfront. Ethiopians have claimed the Women’s title the past 3 years in a row, with victories from Asha Gigi, Mulu Seboka, and Amane Gobena. Last year, Gobena established a new course record of 2:28:31. She has subsequently gone onto run 2:25:14 in Osaka in January and 2:24:13 in Seoul in March. To claim victory and the additional $25,000 bonus for the new fastest-ever Women’s time on Canadian soil, Tsegaye and Dado will have to fight off the best and deepest international women’s field in Toronto to date. Fellow Ethiopians Koren Yal and Merima Mohammed, Russians Alevtina Ivanova and Albina Mayorova, Kenyans Sharon Cherop and Rose Kosgei, and Japanese Maki Suzawa and Ayumi Nakayama all hope to push the pace and have a say in the final outcome." Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon news release ============================================================================ Running Network's Mr. Ubiquitous - PORTLAND, OREGON (AUGUST 27-28, 2010) - Hood to Coast Relay ============================================================================ Mr. Ubiquitous, aka Gary Morgan, reports: "Going to the relay race Hood to Coast was going to be logistical challenge as I drove from New York City to Clarkston, Michigan on Wednesday night and then caught a plane out of Detroit Metro on Thursday night. Changed planes in San Francisco and landed in Portland Oregon at 12:30 am Friday Morning. Then waited there until 10 am for my teammates (a mixed masters team of 6 women and 6 men called Last Legs) to pick me up and head up to Mt Hood for the start of the "Mother of all Relays, Hood to Coast", 197 miles of awesome scenery, sleepless nights and lots of runners. I did a relay race just to get to the start. The race is even more logistics. As we get there around 1:30 pm, teams were leaving every 15 minutes. There are 1000 teams consisting of 12 runners, approximately 15 to 20 teams are in each group. They have been taking off since 6:30 am and will keep leaving until 6:30 pm. My team, Last Legs started at 3:30 pm. The race started at Timberline Lodge which is at 6000 ft. Mt Hood is majestic behind the lodge, rising 11,265ft. The sun shined on us as we waited for our first teammate to run. It was awesome. Great picture taking time. Shirley, our team captain, takes off on a 5 mile downhill run and we take off to the first exchange zone. We get to exchange zone one and there’s lots of excitement as each team member hands off the blue magnetic wrist band at exchange zones. I ran leg number 6, a 7.4 mile stretch of up and down hills. It was getting to be dusk so I had to run with a reflective vest and a flashlight. My quads knew I had just run that leg. I still had 2 more legs to run in the next 18 hours. I'm in van one and were done running for the next 4.5 hours. We head off to the number 12 exchange zone and park the van in a parking lot under the freeway bridges in downtown Portland next to a camp of homeless people. They had to be wondering what to hell was going on. One thousand vehicles with 1000's of runners kept them up all night. Shirley, our fearless leader, took the next run from there. She's a relay veteran with 22 Hood to Coast relays under her belt and she has run every single leg. I ran leg 18 at 3am and it was a short 4.1 miles but a 300 foot elevation. Also, running in the dark is always tough even with a head lamp. When I finished that leg I took a long nap. We get another 4.5 hour break as the runners in the other van run. We headed to exchange zone 24 where lots of runners lay out sleeping bags on the ground and sleep. It was cool to see

vans and runners sleeping out in this open field. I ran leg number 30 for my last leg. It was 5.25 mile downhill to flat run. My quads were screaming almost as bad as when I ran Comrades in May. That gave me 16.75 miles for the relay. Everyone ran between 15 and 18 miles for the relay. We’re done and we headed for Seaside Oregon, the finish of the race and the finish spot for the Lewis and Clark expedition in 1806-- truly a fitting spot for the Hood to Coast Relay to finish. The beach here is spectacular. Our last runner came in and we all ran through the finish line together. Our total time was 25 hours and 59 minutes, 4th in the mixed masters and an automatic entry for Shirley's team, Last Legs, next year. Like most big races it's a lottery to get in now. What an epic adventure this was; I'd do it again in a heart beat. I've always heard about this race and how great it is. Well it lived up to its reputation. Next year is the 30th running of this race and I'm sure the race organizers will go to make it special. Put this on your list of races to do. ‘Til next time, keep on running." ================================ Great Performances - Road Racing ================================ -- Crim 8K, Flint, August 28. 2010 1st Overall, including all 579 men + 1134 women) Gabrielle Anzalone, 29:13 1st Master and 3rd overall) Bill Kahn, 30:18 -- Crim 10 Mile, Flint, August 28, 2010 See Michigan Runner Race Series Results below -- Somerset Stampede Half Marathon, Somerset, August 28, 2010 1st) Emily McKay, 1:35:30 1st Master) Marcy Sacks, 1:40:43 1st Master) Tom Romanowski, 1:20:36 ==================================================================== Michigan Runner Race Series Results: Crim Festival of Races 10 MIle, August 28, 2010 ==================================================================== Open Women Andrea Pomaranski, 1st, 56:08, 50 points, age 28 Lanni Marchant, 2nd, 57:16, 25 points, age 26 Lavenna Mullenbach, 3rd, 58:11, 15 points, age 23 Open Men Boaz Cheboiywo, 1st, 48:09, 50 points, age 32 Ryan Sheehan, 2nd, 48:49, 25 points, age 27 Drew Polley, 3rd, 49:32, 15 points, age 24 Masters Women Lisa Veneziano, 1st, 59:15, 30 points, age 45 Marybeth Reader, 2nd, 1:02:53, 15 points, age 41
