22 - 25 SEPTEMBER 2022 Welcome to the teaser programme for the 5th edition of the Middlesbrough Art Weekender (MAW). This year’s festival invites over 75 artists & makers to explore the theme power POWER through a series of exhibitions, workshops, talks, seminars, performances and interactive projects. power POWER draws together artists’ work that explores soft power and hard POWER, where artists intervene and disrupt the way power is seen or unseen. Internationally recognised Scottish artist Rachel Maclean creates surreal worlds through the use of extravagant costumes, over-the-top make-up,Collection green screen Installation View, Zabludowicz (2018) vfx and electronic soundtracks, all presented through a Virtual Reality setup.

Whether it’s pop-up workshops at Hillstreet Shopping Centre, getting an Arts Award from Navigator North, being super creative at Basecamp or even taking part in the more daring workshops form the Post Apocalypse School of Teesside, there’s plenty to keep them entertained over the festival weekend!
