Benefits The Registry Office Combining spoken word and experimental expressionist noise, The Registry Office explores the passage of time and development of buildings in Centre Square. Me Lost Me Fast-forward, re-wild This work imagines a future town centre with its buildings as a series of cliff faces, re-wilded and now home to colonies of birds. It proposes a function for the high street beyond buying things, asks us to reconsider what public space is for and to think about our connection to the natural world as we go about our day. It is made up of three parts, consisting of field recordings, voice and synthesised sounds. Gobscure first cygnets in decades, no new office blocks required : Since we were wee we’ve known the map of the river tees looks like a face. 5 linked soundworks leading from transporter bridge to library via fountain, bottle of notes and duckpond where cygnets recently hatched for the first time in decades. Sampled sounds (some natural, some heavily processed) from these locations or speaking of them are woven with multilayered vocals in playful and mesmerising tale.
