Chicago Dawg House Celebrates Grand Opening in Midtown Crossing

Turner BARK

Locally-owned Chicago Dawg House, billed as “Omaha’s only true Chicagostyle restaurant,” is celebrating the grand opening of its Midtown Crossing location. “We offer great food at a fair price – and a fun experience for the whole family,” said Kelly Keegan who owns Chicago Dawg House with his wife, Regina. Everything, he promised, is “as authentic as it can be – the hot dogs, the buns, the Italian beef and the Gonnella rolls we put it on all come from Chicago, as do the pickles, the neon relish, the sport peppers, darn near everything.” For those in the mood for something a little lighter, variety is also on the menu. “We have a taco salad and a grilled chicken salad that are phenomenal,” Kelly said.

He and his wife purchased the restaurant – formerly located near 108th & W. Maple Road – from its previous owner in March of 2012. Kelly said moving to the more visible Midtown Crossing location – 3157 Farnam St. – was simply better for business. “There’s a vibe at a Midtown Crossing. I feel it,” he said. At 3850 sq. ft., the new location is 2800 sq. ft. larger than the former and offers three times the seating. The new Chicago Dawg House also includes a dugoutstyle seating area and some stadium-style seating with actual seats from Wrigley, Rosenblatt and Riverfront Stadiums. The décor is all Cubs inspired. “I’m very excited with the way the decorations came out. You’re going to feel like you’re at Wrigley Field,” Kelly said. A midtown resident, Kelly was born and raised in Omaha but said he fell in love with Chicago fare during extended business trips to the city. creative minds are going to express themselves.”

Each month we will feature a resident, pet or retailer. PROPERTY MANAGEMENT Smoke Free Initiative: After surveying our resident community, and in order to provide a healthier environment for our residents and guests, our property has decided to go completely smoke free in Building 2. The harmful effects of secondhand smoke and the fire dangers caused by smoking indoors are simply too great to ignore. The common areas in your building are already smoke free in accordance with the Nebraska Clean Indoor Air Act (this include hallways and the lobbies). In order to protect all staff and residents a smoke-free policy for all individual units will be enforced January 1st, 2014. Effective January 1st, 2014, all residents signing new leases in Building 2 will be required to sign a smoke-free lease addendum that explains the policy. All current residents will be required to sign a smoke-free lease addendum during their lease renewal process. We anticipate the transition to becoming a smoke-free building to be completed by the end of 2014. All residents of Building 2 and their guests will be required to follow this policy.

FEATURED PET (cont’d from page 1) Meet Eli (a.k.a horse dog or pocket pony), a 2 year old Mantle Great Dane who was rescued from the Nebraska Humane Society by residents Jillian Craig and Mikie Todd. More than likely you have seen Eli in Turner Park out for a gallop. While at times cautious, Eli is a gentle giant. He spends most of his days at work with Jillian where he never lets her get to far out of site. Mikie, who works at the Nebraska Humane Society, says that Eli can be lazy at times but is always around watching the pack. He loves to gallop for a solid 1.5 minutes and then it’s time for a roll in the grass. He loves the wind in his face, lying in the grass, beef jerky and loud music - particularly the Kris Lager Band. Mikie says that having a pet this size is not as challenging as one might think. It’s important to elevate his food/ water bowls to make it easier for him to eat and digest. You will also become a human towel at times and you will always know exactly when he drinks, where he drinks and where he goes after his drink. Eli consumes about 40+ lbs. of food per week because it is one of his favorite things. He also likes to leave treats by the bag dispensers around the park for his other furry friends. If you find some treats by the dispensers in Turner Park you can thank the pup whose heart is as big as he is. Jillian and Mikie said one of their favorite things about Eli is his ability to bring smiles to the faces of everyone he meets. And Eli loves to meet new people, so if you see him and his humans out in Turner Park don’t be intimidated, Eli is very friendly and would love to say hi!
