MIDTOWN CROSSING TO HOST 2014 CUPID’S UNDIE RUN
Turner BARK
A racy “mile-ish” run – that’s a whole lot of fun – is coming to Midtown Crossing in February 2014. Cupid’s Undie Run is a wildly popular, global fundraising phenomenon that benefits the Children’s Tumor Foundation (CTF). Since the first event in Washington DC in 2010, Cupid’s Undie Runs across the country – and as far away as Sydney, Australia – have raised almost $1.7 million for CTF. With 29 cities, including Omaha, on the list for 2014, organizers expect to raise another $3-4 million. 100 percent of the fundraising goes directly to CTF. “We’re the biggest outsider fundraiser for CTF,” said Bobby Gill, Cupid’s Undie Run co-founder. “The Run is raising funds, but it’s also raising awareness, and it’s doing so in a way that creates a lively and passionate group of do-gooders that get to celebrate their triumphs.” He continued, “We’re able to bring this hope and this excitement about raising money for CTF, and it’s the greatest feeling to see everyone put their shoulder behind this effort.”
FEATURED STORY
Midtown Crossing’s Cupid’s Undie Run will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2014 starting at 12 pm and ending at 4 pm. The event includes pre- and post-run parties. All participants must be 21 or older. An event website FAQ asks, “You really want me to dress up in my undies?” The response: “You know it! We’re baring it all to raise awareness for a good cause. We’re being brave and facing adversity, just like the children who suffer daily from neurofibromatosis. If you don’t want to show too much skin, you are welcome to wear your undies over top of tights and we encourage creativity.” Gill said participants do get very creative with their get-ups. “Everyone is out there in a variety of outfits. … it has become a tradition that a lot of guys will shave hearts into their chest hair – or a heart out of their chest hair. It’s a hilarious time from beginning to end,” Gill said, adding, “It’s not really a race. It’s a fun run.”
Holiday Accessories Since I’ll never walk the red carpet at the Oscars or Golden Globes, my awardseason look usually debuts around the holidays. I’ve got more bling around the house (think gold confetti and crystal ornaments) so why not more bling around the blouse (hello bejewled necklaces and scarves!).

Online shopping is continuing to grow and we are definitely seeing it with the holiday’s are here. We are averaging 72 packages per day at the Concierge desk, and it can get pretty crazy in Dodge Court and in the building #4 lobby. Everyone has been so patient and kind and that helps us feel more like Santa’s helpers and not package central. Please keep these helpful tips in mind regarding your packages: • Please make arrangements, or pick up your packages at your earliest convenience, especially if your package is perishable. We do not have a cold storage space to use and we do not want your products to spoil. Plus, it frees up space in our closets. • Make sure you are getting notified correctly. Our notification system sends out a notification to you via text, email or both as soon as we scan in your package. Call or stop by the Concierge desk #4 to update your information for notifications. • All packages are received in at the Concierge Desk in building #4. After they are entered into our system, we move them to closets to make it easier for you to pick up. Remember you can always call first, and we can meet you where your package is staged. • Packages for buildings #3 & #7 are moved to the Concierge desk in building #3. The building #3 desk is staffed Mon-Fri 1 PM - 6 PM, and Sat-Sun 10 AM -3 PM. • Packages for buildings #2, #4 and #5 are stored at the desk in building #4. At the end of the day, we transfer the packages for Residents in building #2 into the closet in building #2. The building #4 desk is staffed 7 days a week from 9 AM - 8 PM We hope you enjoy this holiday season, and we thank you in advance for allowing us to be a part of it.

MIDTOWN CROSSING TO HOST 2014 CUPID’S UNDIE RUN (cont. from page 1) While the event is designed to be an unmentionably good time, the impetus behind it is very serious. Gill and co-founders Brendan Hanrahan and Chad Leathers organized the first Cupid’s Undie Run after Leathers’ younger brother, Drew, was diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis (NF). The painful genetic disorder causes tumors to grow on nerves throughout the body, potentially causing blindness, deafness and learning disabilities. NF affects roughly 1 in 3,000 births in the U.S. Right now, there is no cure. “We wanted to do something that really stood out as a fundraiser, but to stand out, you can’t just do another 5K or happy hour. One day, it just came to Brendan – ‘Hey, we should do an undie run.’ He sent an email to me and Chad, and we became the three co-founders of Cupid’s Undie Run. Five weeks later, we had 650 people out there and raised $10,000 for the Children’s Tumor Foundation. It’s just gotten bigger and bigger every year,” Gill said. CTF is the world’s largest non-government organization dedicated to ending NF through research. It is a Charity Navigator 4-Star charity that spends 82.4% of its revenue on program expenses and less than 8% on administrative costs. Today, thanks to CTF research, Gill said Drew is doing “phenomenally.” “With the money that the CTF has been applying toward research – a little less than $2 million of that coming from Cupid’s – they’ve been funding these clinical trials that have allowed investigators to get more creative with their approaches to treatment for individuals with NF,” Gill explained. In Drew’s case, drugs normally approved for cancer were used to target his tumors – with promising results. “His tumors have shrunk by about 50 percent, and he is now to the point where he can drive a car with some assistive devices. He used to be in an electric wheelchair; now he’s in a push chair. With some assistance, he can stand out of the wheelchair, which is incredible,” Gill said. He added, “We see the direct impact of what we’re out there doing. So obviously, we have to keep doing this. We’re going to keep pushing forward.” Interested in participating in Cupid’s Undie Run? Register today at www.cupidsundierun.com and help us find a cure for NF. The event has been very quick to sellout in other cities – and it’s no wonder why. With a verbal wink, Gill promised participants “the greatest day they’ve ever had.”
