Just Clip It and Go!!!
I
t doesn’t matter if you’re spending the day with bae or rocking it on your own, a starry-eyed, flirty hairstyle is always picture-perfect. Check out www.Eyefordesignhair.com’s hairstyle below for a quick inspirational tutorial. Transform your fine, lifeless, short hair into full, sexy natural looking curls that you’ve always wanted within minutes. Through the use of www.eyefordesignhair.com’s 100% Indian Socialite remy virgin human clipin hair extensions you’ll achieve that goal. Whether it’s a sew-in, clip-ins, tape, or custom wig units, you can change your appearance in a matter of minutes or hours…for yourself or your interesting significant other! Top 10 contestant of the Miss California USA pageant, Dia Davis has www.eyefordesignhair.com’s set of Socialite Indian Kinky Curly clipin set. She loves wearing her natural hair but felt she needed the fullness and a bit of length to glam
Before Applying Socialite Kinky Clipins
up her look. By using these clipins she is able to achieve volume and length within minutes. After laying out her clipins using a comb she divides her hair into 2 sections; clipping the top of her hair up so that she is free to open up the clipins. With the clip side of the piece facing you, put both thumbs on each side of the clip and the index fingers at the front side of the piece. Snap the clip open by applying pressure toward yourself with the index fingers. Similarly, close the clip by applying pressure away from yourself with the thumbs. Place the clip on your own hair just below the part. Moving the clip downward, catch your own hair in the clip and snap it shut. The clips have been designed with the clip sew with the open side facing down, so that the clip can be slid in and slid out with ease. This makes attachment to your own hair or a wig easy, without risk of snags.
Applying Socialite Kinky Clipins
Since Dia is using multiple pieces you will need to repeat step one over again till you have attached all the pieces that you want. As you clip each section use your fingers to comb through your hair and the clipin pieces, blending them with your own natural curl. The whole process should take less than 15 minutes! After using products and styling, Dia’s finished look is now perfect and she’s ready for a fun-filled night of fun and love! 16 MIDWEST BLACK HAIR MAGAZINE - April 2015/May 2015

Their long lasting 100% Remy Virgin Brazilian, Indian, Malaysian, and European 100% human hair extensions have their cuticles aligned and intact so that all strands face the same direction, decreasing the tangling and matting of the extensions. W
ith the rise of African American women going natural, there is a never-ending search for how to maintain our tresses the best and to also make it as easy as possible. I mean, who wouldn’t want to save hours a week on detangling and styling our hair… But are all shortcuts okay? Texlaxing has become more popular over the last couple of years, and some naturalistas are giving in to the newer trend. Texlaxing is when you apply a relaxer to your natural hair either all over or small sections of your hair, and then purposely only leave it on for a few minutes. If done properly, your curls will still be noticeable, but your hair texture will be between straight and a natural curl. If not done properly, your hair will be straight, and there is no way to reverse it. So is texlaxing okay? It all depends on the individual, and what you are trying to achieve. If you are going for chemical free hair, no this is not for you. If you want the look of natural hair but a more toned down curl pattern and don’t mind using chemicals every once in a while, this might be something you might try. Like they say, different strokes for different folks. Remember, you can still achieve healthy hair when using a relaxer. So for those that say, yes, this is what I’ve been looking for, here are a few things to remember: -You have to create a barrier between your hair and the relaxer, this is very important. To help slow down the relaxer process, cover your hair with an oil barrier all over, but make sure it’s not overly oiled where it’s super wet. Some people even add some oil directly to the relaxer too to dilute it. -Refrain from smoothing or combing the relaxer into your hair. Just place it on and leave it alone for a few minutes before rinsing it out. -Lean more toward the regular, sensitive, or no-lye relaxers. These will not be as strong as the super. A little nervous about doing this wrong and over processing your hair, call a local professional. And always remember that with this process, the hair is a little weaker than it was before, so conditioning and routine upkeep is a must! Photographer | MimagePhotos

very girl dreams of swaying off her partner with her gorgeous and exorbitant looks. With spring season closing in, you might be wondering about donning a completely new look, thus signaling the fresh start of the season. While your wardrobe might be a thing to worry about, don't frown too much as far as your makeup is concerned. Just mix up your existing makeup gadgets with a little creativity and you are all set to go places. Don't worry if you aren't having latest range of makeup products. Blending your old products with a new punch of creativity is just enough for providing you the perfect look. Read below to discover some cheap and amazing makeup tips.
28 MIDWEST BLACK HAIR MAGAZINE - April 2015/May 2015
Makeup Tip #1
• The bottom line for perfect makeup is a fresh looking skin. Invest in some of the home remedies for keeping your skin alive, glowing, and vibrant. First, drink plenty of water!
Makeup Tip #2
• Most people pay attention only to their facial skin while applying makeup and completely ignore the skin of their arms and legs. In order to ensure an ideal makeup look, make sure your arms and legs look equally as vibrant as your face.
Makeup Tip #3 • Make sure to use primers for
sparking up your legs and arms. Primers will make your skin appear smooth and bright.
Makeup Tip #4 • Apply your lip gloss on your
cheeks for imparting a natural glow to your cheeks. If extra rosiness is your choice, you can apply a little more too; however, make sure you don't cross the line.
Makeup Tip #5
• Bored of your old shades of lipstick and aren't able to buy new ones? Don't worry; there is still a way out! Take out the old shades of your lipstick and layer them up for creating an extraordinary impact. For example, mix and layer up your brown and pink lipstick for creating a lovely dark rosy color.
Makeup Tip #6 • Apply a coat of pressed powder
on the applied lipstick for sparking up the complete look. This will make your lipstick stand out dramatically. The unwanted oils in your lipstick will be drained out and the color will appear much deeper.
Makeup Tip #7
• For getting a natural look, instead of applying lipstick, you can apply a layer of foundation, let it dry, and then apply lip gloss.
Getting a perfect makeup look is not about makeup paraphernalia; it's rather about using your creativity at the optimum for looking good! If you are looking for some effective yet cheap makeup tricks and tips that can make your day a memorable one then check out our website at makeuptricksandtips.com. BARBER LIFE
MWBH Barber Spotlight & Products
Javis "Gibb" Gibson
Master Barber & CEO of Multi-Razor LLC
J
avis "Gibb" Gibson, an award winning barber, educator, inventor, and is a proud barbershop owner of Hot Shots Barber Lounge in Brookhaven, MS. He is from Wesson, MS and is the inventor and CEO of Multi-Razor, LLC. Mr. Gibson has won numerous victories in barber battles across the south, including two first place victories in traditional men's haircutting competitions. Known in the hair industry as "Gibb", Mr. Javis Gibson is a knowledgeable educator and travels the nation sharing knowledge in barbering. He has taught on classes in barbershop management, secrets revealed in clipper fading, clipper over comb techniques, edge up enhancement techniques, and various educational classes geared towards the advancement of professional barbering. Graduating high school in 1996, Javis was providing barbering and grooming services on family members and high school friends. His passion for barbering was established as an early teen. Coming from a blessed, yet less fortunate family, his barbering gift was a blessing as it was extra income to help provide for his family. It wasn't until 2009, that Mr. Gibson was able to earn his barbering license at Pizzazz Barber College in Baton Rouge, LA. He recalls times of being homeless in order to finish hours for barbering school. Upon finishing barbering school, Javis moved back home to Mississippi and began a miraculous journey that could only be ordained by God. He began working at a local barbershop in the
city of Brookhaven, MS and immediately started a savings for his own business. After "Gibb" opened Hot Shots Barbershop along with his business partner Chase "Clipperman" McIntyre, they tag teamed and began a career of platform artistry in barbering. Mr. Gibson eventually began to get invites to educate at barber/beauty seminars and schools. His passion for receiving and sharing the knowledge of barbering drives Mr. Gibson. Javis stated, "I love barbering! The craft and art of it is beauty. In August of 2011, while working as a platform artist at one of the largest hair trade shows in the nation, Gibb was doing an edge up and beard enhancement and found himself going back and forth from his razor to his small application brush thinking to himself how much time he could save along with cutting down on dry time with his color enhancer. He thought if the blade and brush were one implemented along with the idea of his color enhancer, never staining the skin again..... Thus.... the Multi-Razor™ was born!!!
36 MIDWEST BLACK HAIR MAGAZINE - April 2015/May 2015
The Multi-Razor™ is an implement designed to meet the need of color applications and detailing (razor work). This tool can be used as an application brush or a shaving razor, or BOTH!! Its soft, yet firm bristles are made and set into the implement to leave the user with a secure application with no mess and an immediate straight line. The Multi-Razor™ has a razor blade chamber on the reverse side of the brush, so that detailing is a cinch. The blades are easily changeable carrying any brand 1/2 blade. This tool was designed with barbers and stylist in mind that may do numerous edge up enhancements on the client's hairline, beard, and/ or eyebrows. The Multi-Razor was built for durability in the salon as the nylon 66 plastic material can stand up to extreme heat. Taking the hassle out of multitasking from application brush to razor, the Multi-Razor™ saves time and energy as the barber/stylist/make-up artist can simply apply the color enhancer and detail it with a literal flip of the wrist. "The Multi-Razor™ is an original product and idea overall", said Mr. Gibson. Upon doing a patent search, Javis was surprised that there had never been any idea of this type patented. "I would think someone would have been thought to put a razor and a brush on one handle," said Mr. Gibson. Especially in the beauty industry. Then I realize God saved that idea for me and I am forever grateful for that." Mr. Javis Gibson simply encourages everyone..... "Don't multitask, Multi-Razor™!!!” You can reach Mr. Gibson via social media:

To Veil or Not to Veil‌ That is the Questions By LeAndrea Mack
T
he bridal style equation includes the perfect dress, the right shoes, complimenting make-up and how you wear your hair. Your guest will look at your dress, down at your shoes and then up, at your hair. What will you choose?
Traditionally, veils covered the face as a symbolic sign of purity. The veil was lifted by the father of the bride as a presentation to her groom or the groom lifted the veil symbolizing consummation, but many brides have forgone the tradition in lieu of elegant flowers, dazzling hair pins, alluring beads or glamorous barrettes. While the decision may seem minuet in the overall bridal style equation, it can be the prestigious enhancement accessory for the fashion-conscious bride.
Choosing a veil:
Long floor sweeping veils only require low maintenance hair preparations. The focus of the long veil usually ties in with the dress since it will be layering over the posterior portion however, if you plan to go to your reception immediately after, you may want to go for a sleek low lying bun under the veil because long veils are too difficult to maintain while trying to dance or move freely to mingle with your guest. Medium or shoulder length veils require more hair preparations. Waves and curls tend to compliment this veil length as it gracefully lies over the hair. Transitioning to your reception requires careful detachment of the veil to sustain the curls or waves but can be done very quickly. Positioning medium or shoulder veils towards the back of the head during the reception is also a viable and stylish option. Short or partial face covering veils have become a popular choice among brides who want the veil effect without all the covering. It creates a trendy yet traditional vibe that can stay in place throughout the night. It can also be repositioned during the reception to create an alternate look. There is a lot to consider when contemplating wearing a veil. Traditions and trends may sometimes pull you in different directions but somewhere in the middle, when the roads between customary and panache meet, you’ll find your answer.

Getting Fit
with Laeann AMoss, Darrell Patterson and Nicole Chaplin By Asia Diamond
58 MIDWEST BLACK HAIR MAGAZINE - April 2015/May 2015
W
hen I first arrived to Fitness As A Lifestyle (FAAL) everyone was so welcoming. From Laeann, DP, and Nicole. They welcome me in with open arms. The environment was very intimate. Before the workout started each trainer introduced themselves to their guest. It’s amazing how much you learn if you just sit and listen to ones journey. -Nicole Chaplin- started her fitness career wanting to be a model, but she was too short to model. However, Nicole was determined on making it in the modeling industry and with hard work and determination Nicole has appeared on shows like ABC's Good Morning America, CBS News NY, is a regular Oxygen Magazine model, and a celeb fitness trainer/motivational speaker/author of her new book YES MAM! -Laeann Moss- started her fitness career after having a new baby and focused on being sexier and healthier. She has mommy and me workouts for you to use. She even stated that you can use your kids at home as weights. She is also an author of her new book, A Complete Guide To A Sexier Healthier You. Laeann is big on using things in the house to help you work out and meal prepping. -Darrel Patterson best known as DP from Cleveland, Ohio is a personal trainer and a group trainer. DP has an organization called RTB Fitness. DP focus is on building a better platform for those interested in fitness. He also has a business partner, Dashaun Johnson, Bad Boys of Fitness. DP focused on abs upper and mid- area, because everyone struggles with the lower part of abdomen the most. DP stated during the class, “he will teach three different exercises to target the abdominal area.”
4. Why am I always tired? -The things you eat will determine your energy. 5. How often should I eat? -Set your alarm clock to go off every two to three hours, then your body will become accustomed to when you should eat. 6. How do you feel about scales? -The scale is the devil (Laeann) After all of that the workout began, and let me tell you the work was no joke. All three trainers gave a workout, and it was a great workout I must add. When I felt it starting to hurt, I stated let me go take some photos lol. Yup I punked out! I sure did! These trainers are amazing at what they do. I see why they are where they are in the fitness world. The work out touched every part of your body. From stomach, arms and legs. Even though, I punked out I will love to take a class with them again, and not have to take photos *wink*. Check out the following pages for our interviews with these three amazing health professionals!
After the trainers introduced themselves it was time to get to work. The floor was then open for discussion, and they included discussion on the following: 1. Do you suggest wearing tights for a workout? -Wear whatever makes you feel comfortable. 2. Meal Prepping -Meal prepping is the hardest thing to do-make sure you have your lean foods (meats low in fat- turkeyfish-protein shakes). Do the exact opposite when you eat instead of having a big dinner have a big breakfast. 3. How much should you eat? -You want to have portions when you eat. The amount you should be the size of your hand. Do not go outside the palm of your hand. If you just ate and you think you are hungry you are thirsty drink a glass of water. When eating turn the food pyramid upside down.

Asia Diamond: Introduce yourself to Midwest Black Hair Magazine readers? I am Nicole Chaplin fitness enthusiast, personal trainer, model and author. Asia Diamond: You currently have a new book out, tell our readers about your book? Yes, the title of my new book is Yes Mam! (Your Muscle is a Motivator). Its a ten point manual. Based on how to accomplish your goals. Whether you're inside or outside the gym. And I’m very very proud of it. Asia Diamond: What made you motivated to want to do a book? Excellent question, I feel like if I’m a personal trainer I can 60 MIDWEST BLACK HAIR MAGAZINE - April 2015/May 2015
only talk to a certain amount of people per day. If I have a book it goes across the world. So especially with technology people can download the book on Amazon, my website, or Barnes and Nobles. And I really want to motivate people as much as I can at a time. Asia Diamond: You are currently a fitness model, but you had some struggle in doing fitness modeling because you are short, how was it getting into fitness modeling? I’m 5’3. It was a challenge because already modeling is tough. Fitness modeling is a niche. So it’s a smaller group of people. So going to agencies they would tell me you have a great physique, but you're so short. So it was a struggle in the beginning, but with the Lord and prayer and tonicity and not giving up it finally happened.
Asia Diamond: How did you connect with DP and Laeann for your workshop? Get Fit with Laeann, myself and DP. I know DP from before, I met Laeann through Instagram and I like what they are doing in Atlanta. I enjoy traveling. I’m based in New York City and I decided if I’m going to come to ATL why not hook up with two of the hottest trainers. We mesh well together. Asia Diamond: Yes I love the vibe that you all have together. Ok so you currently teach classes in New York let our readers know where you teach? You can find me on East 55th and Lexington Avenue. I’m a personal trainer thats what I do most of my time. So if you need to find me you can go to my website. Nicolechaplin.com or email at info@nicolechaplin.com. We can make it a session and if you have two people with you we can make it a group class. Asia Diamond: Everybody wants to know how to work out, are there any tips that you can give our readers for working out? The biggest tip or the best tip that I can give you is to be consistent. No matter what you do if it’s a kick boxing class, yoga, cycling whatever you do be consistent on a daily regimen. Whatever it is get active. Burn as many carbs as you can and stick with it. Really there is no easy way out. Asia Diamond: So you are in Atlanta, you did the workshop in Atlanta. Have you done the workshop in New York? Yes, I do my own thing in New York. It’s based on my book and my company. My company is called Bella X Fitness. So I do group workouts once a month in the winter and in the summer I do it every weekend in Central Park. You can find that information on my website and also on Instagram. I have a lot of fun! Asia Diamond: So are you going to take this workshop anywhere else? Yes, we have got some good reviews, so definitely want Laeann and DP to come to New York. I think New York is just as nice as Atlanta, just has a different vibe obviously. It’s faster paced why not? Fitness is a lifestyle. And how ironic that’s the name of the place we are at today Fitness As A Lifestyle. So let’s see, there’s no limit to the success that we can do, so let’s take it. Asia Diamond: Yes you need to take it to LA , Chicago, take it everywhere I know people would be excited to be apart of it. What is next for Nicole in 2015? 2015 I’m going to do more speaking engagements. I am going to be at All Star Weekend coming in New York. I’m going to be at University of Miami for a week for their week of well-being. The Lord is on my side, I know he is because my TV show is going to come out this year. I’m putting that energy out there, I’ve worked very hard on it. And just like my book I want to reach as many people as I can. Why not take it to Television and show people a different side of reality TV. No disrespect to what's out there now, but I’m responsible for myself and I want to put out the best positive message of being a women. Just being a human on earth and that’s what my TV show is about. Asia Diamond: I like and I look forward to that. Thank you! 61 www.MidwestBlackHair.com

Asia Diamond: Let our readers know who you are? Hi Guys! My name is Laeann Amoss and I am a new mom. And I’m all about building a sexier healthier you through all stage of womanhood. Asia Diamond: I noticed on your instagram that you do post and prenatal workout? Yes, I do post and prenatal workout. And basically that goes back to like I said building a sexier healthier you through every stage of womanhood. Before kids, during kids and after kids. Basically you're building yourself to be healthy on the inside to project it on the outside. It’s not about looks it’s about health. And the benefits is the looks that come with it.
reason I say that is because it is a bag that insulated. If I put my food in warm, it will keep my food warm. If I put my food in cold, I have ice packs that I can also add to that. It will keep the food warm or cold for up to 12 hours. So I’m always eating constantly every two to three hours. If I’m driving in the car and
Asia Diamond: So in the class you mentioned your meal prepping, how you should have your food with you so you do not have the fast food. Like me I love my Wendy’s. So tell our readers about the meal prepping? My meal prepping bag is my walking refrigerator or microwave. And the 62 MIDWEST BLACK HAIR MAGAZINE - April 2015/May 2015
I’m starving, it’s like McDonalds is right there and the gas station is right there. 9 times out of 10 I’m pulling in the gas station. And I’m just going to run in there and heat up my food. It leaves me to have no excuses whatsoever. If I’m at work, I do not have to put my food in the company refrigerator. I do not have to worry about my co-workers stealing my food out of the refrigerator. It’s heaven in a bag. Asia Diamond: You mentioned that you should eat every 2 to 3 hours. So if someone has a job and they can’t eat every 2 to 3 hours. Is it a must that they should eat every 2 to 3 hours, or is that just your timing? You want to keep your metabolism going. I’ve been in positions where---for example when I worked for clear channel in Miami. They would look at me like I’m crazy. Because we are not allowed to have food in the room. But luckily I had my meal prepping bag. I would pull my food out eat really really fast, I’m talking about scarf it down. Eat fast and put it back up. Once it became habit and routine it’s
like your body lets you know when you're hungry. Like a lot of people say I’m not hungry so I’m not going to eat. But when you teach to teach your body to eat every 2 to 3 hours that speeds up your metabolism. So in return you're burning off as you eat, long as you eating the right foods. Asia Diamond: Cool, so everybody make sure you look out for the meal prepping bag. You teach classes in Georgia let our readers know where your classes are? I teach spin class 3 days a week Mondays and Wednesdays 12:15pm to 1:15pm. And Saturday mornings. So we have our Saturday morning party and our mid-day party. I also teach total body blast in the evenings on Tuesdays and Thursdays. And you also can find me at a new studio called the Vibe Rod which is in the midtown area of Atlanta. I’ll be teaching classes there too. So I’m a little bit all over and it’s accommodating to no matter what area you live in, in the Atlanta, GA area. I do have my website. I also post schedules on my social media, so everything is Mslaeannmoss and you can find it there. Asia Diamond: How do you feel about waist trainers? I’m not against them. I will say I’m kind of in the middle. I’m not pro-against them, but I’m not like Oooh girl you need it. Because regardless of what you get your results from working out and eating. That’s not going to replace your nutrition. That’s not going to replace your working out. It may help add in with your results of doing the right things with staying active and eating right. So it only implements that. It’s not a replacement. So that’s why I say I’m not pro-against it. But I’m not all the way for it. It just depends on who I’m talking to. Because some people they will only want to do that and not work out. They feel like that they can wear waist trainers and they are supposed to wake up and magically be whatever. You have to put in the work. That means in the kitchen what you put in your body and what you're putting out of your body working out. Asia Diamond: What’s next Ms. Laeann in 2015? Well, besides having my book out now, a complete guide to a sexier healthier you. I have a mommy fit pregnancy DVD called Mommy’s Fit Pregnancy. It’s with me while I was pregnant. The workouts that I did while pregnant. Asia Diamond: And where can our readers find it? Everything can be find via my publishing company www.lffpublcisihing.com, or amazon.com or my website.

Darrell Patterson @iamtherealdp www.iamtherealdp.com
Asia Diamond: Let our readers know who you are? My name is Darrell Patterson, a lot of people know me as DP. Asia Diamond: During the class you talked about the abs the upper, the midand you mentioned that the lower abs are the hardest part to work out. Why is that? Well you have to a lot of things that store around the love handles in the lower
core. Especially like your breads, anyone that drinks alcohol. Usually that’s where it stores and you will see a lot of people that have those first four abdomen that show then the lower part is the hardest one to get to release the fat. So basically when it comes to dieting you want to make sure that your dieting is intact, make sure that you eating lean meats. Checking your carbs making sure that it’s balanced and making sure you are drinking. A lot of people say drink a gallon
64 MIDWEST BLACK HAIR MAGAZINE - April 2015/May 2015
of water, but what you really want to do is drink half of an ounce. So basically if you're 150lbs you want to drink 75 oz. of water. Now, the more you drink of course the better off you are. When you think about exercising anything that’s going to allow you to bring your legs up or if you’re laying down and brings your legs to a horizontal position to a vertical position will allow you to work your lower core or rotation of your hips or legs will allow you to work your upper.
Asia Diamond: So for someone like me that is a bread lover. Like I have to have bread. My mom tells me “Asia you do not need the bread, if you're eating pasta you do not have to have bread with your pasta”, that’s not a good thing is it? What I tell people is try to do no bread for maybe a week, two weeks and see what happens to your body. You will see your stomach start to come down. Try alleviate sugar and sodas from out your diet and overall you will start to see your body change and your abdomen start coming down Asia Diamond: Ok I’m going to try that because I love the Hawaiian Bread (lol). Ok so you have your own company and you have a company with a business partner, tell us about that? Well I am a brand. I am the Real DP. Some of that falls up under RTB (Raising The Bar). I then I have a partner we started a brand roughly 2 ½ years ago called Bad Boys of Fitness. We just incorporated a girl that we haven't launched so I won’t tell her name yet. But she will be the first lady of the Bad Boys of Fitness, and then we will add another girl. So we will have Bad Girls of Fitness which we will launch sometime of next year. But basically what that is we are not “Bad Boys”, but if you look at us our image, if you would have to judge a book by its cover you would have to say Bad Boys, because we are full of tattoos, but the funny thing in our picture we are smiling. But at the same time we do have hard workouts, pretty much go very hard in the gym. But at the same time we make sure we educate people on how to get better bodies. He’s more focused on the abs and mine is more so total body. Asia Diamond: You currently teach classes in Georgia let our readers know where they gs? I have classes that are going to start up again in March, at Fitness Has A Lifestyle Every Tuesday at 6:30pm. I do personal training and group training at my independent gym with is Fitmo right here in Midtown 11th Street on between Howell Mill Drive and North Side Drive. It was a true honor having the chance to speak with these three amazing trainers one from New York (my home) and the other two from Georgia (my second home). I will like to thank them all for taking the time to sit down and chop it up with me! I hope you all enjoyed until next time! 65 www.MidwestBlackHair.com
