ohn Conner, coach for the ID team featured on Lifetime‘s Bring it rocks an cyan tipped faded side cut in our exclusive photo right before his team’s performance.

John Conner, coach for the Infamous Dancerettes (formerly known as the Dynamic Diamond Dollz), a majorette-style dance team from Memphis, Tennessee that is working their new name to the top of the list as one of the most premiere majorette style dance troupes in the country.

Featured on Lifetime Television Network’s super hit show, “Bring It,” John’s jazzy style, high energy and skillful coaching is exuded through his team seamlessly.

At a recent performance in Kansas City, John showed

that he doesn’t coach from the sidelines as his team made a grand entrance following his lead on to the floor. When interviewed about how he keeps his team energized, performance after performance he said, “It’s the love of this[dance] that keeps me going and that will take us a long way.”

The Lifetime hit show centers around another dance group with Infamous Dancerettes (or ID) being one of its main rivals so the show doesn’t show the emotions, hard work or back stories of any of the other groups and it takes strong girls to attend school after their classmates have watched a show that is deliberately set up to show how the other team surmounts, conquer fears, and deal with wins and defeats.

However, as the show progresses, it may dip more into the lives of the other teams and with John Conner’s effervescent personality and vivacious character, he is indeed a contending persona.

lat irons twirling and makeup brush strokes filled each beauty station inside of Proctor & Gamble’s “My Black is Beautiful” booth at the 2015 Essence Music Festival held 4th of July weekend in New Orleans, Louisiana. Their longstanding initiative to “celebrate the diverse collective beauty of AfricanAmerican women and encourages black women to define and promote their [our] own beauty standard — one that is an authentic reflection of our indomitable spirit” was projected through their presence inside the Ernerst B Morial center with high energy greeters, jazzy product displays and a upbeat music.

P&G’s participation with the Essence Music Festival is one of the most popular booths to stop by as guest of the festival receive full sized and sample sized products of some of P&G’s most popular brands including COVERGIRL®, Pantene®, Olay®, Clairol Professional® and Head & Shoulders®.

Offering the Beauty Makeover Experience P&G’s beauty consultants maintained the energy of the festival as guest entered individual stations to receive their make-overs which included a free skin, hair and makeup consultation.

After hair and make-up was complete, Essence Music Festival guests at the My Black is Beautiful booth posed for the camera and learned some

popular lines dances featuring a video from choreographer Lori Ann. Unable to resist the temptation to try out new makeup from the COVERGIRL®, Queen Collection for free, I sat down with My Black is Beautiful lead stylist, Shica who ran down a slew of helpful tips as she selected a lip liner to demonstrate how to give my lips the “plumped” look of more fuller lips. She has been with MBIB for almost 10 years and says, “I love being behind the chair and given the opportunity to educate people on hair and skin trends and issues.”

Festival guests lined up knowing they would be in for fresh new make-overs and freebies but one guest also commented, “P&G recognizes black buying power and the beauty of African American women and our hair and skin needs. I appreciate them for that and that’s why I came to support whatever they have in their booth at the Essence Festival.”

The Essence Music Festival’s Empowerment Experience is a chance to celebrate African American culture including music, art, beauty, health, cuisine, finance, technology and so much more! The 2016 Essence Music Festival will be held July 1st through July 3rd.

Using her Bachelor of Business Administration in advertising and promotion along with her love for natural hair, she started Nae2Curly in August 2014, and has been using her online platform to showcasing the versatility of natural hair.

Her styles can be achieved by every curly girl, and her most popular styles are perm rod sets, twist and curls, and high puffs. “My goal is to encourage and inspire others to embrace their natural hair.”

She rocked different curly styles which motivated me to want to do the same. Even though I only got relaxer on my edges I still wanted to "transition" and rock curly styles. I also needed to cut off my damaged ends which were caused due to stress. As time went on I watched other natural hair gurus on YouTube to learn more about natural hair. I first subscribed to NaturalMetra, Iknowlee, CharyJay, MariaAntoinetteTV and Naptural85 on YouTube. MWBH Product Reviews Mint Almond Oil (T.Richardson)

I absolutely loved the Mint Almond Oil for my scalp and this is a product that I will most def purchase!!! It worked great on my seborrheic dermatitis. My scalp is very dry, itch, and scaly, so the mint almond oil was able to relieve those symptoms for me. I just loved the smell of the peppermint oil and it left my hair smelling good all day long. The Mint Almond Oil isnt heavy which is great and it didn't leave my hair feeling oily.

Organic White Peony Ultra Moisturizing Leave In Conditioner (T. Richardson) I didnt like it because my hair is very thick and curly. The smell of the product was nice, but I didnt like the way it made my hair feel. After I used the leave in conditioner my hair felt filmy. The product is light weight which is great, but for my hair type it prefers hair care products that are thicker and provide my hair with lots of moisture since it is very thick and curly.

Mint Almond Oil (M. Ford) LOVED THIS! The Mint Almond Oil was definitely a big hit in our house full of girls. We tend to have dry and itchy scalps and this oil not only relieved that itch and dry feeling, but also left our hair smelling good, and also left our hair light yet moisturized! A+ on this one!

Originally from New York, Asia Diamond has over twenty years of dancing under her belt. She honed her craft at Alvin Ailey, Dance Theater of Harlem, Joffrey Ballet, Harlem School of the Arts and the Harlem Hospital Dance Leadership Program- some of the most distinguished dance training centers in America. Asia has worked with many notable choreographers including Michelle Johnston, Anthony Hart ,Robin Dunn, Pony Zion and many more.

In pursuit of artistic ascendancy and overall excellence, Asia relocated to Atlanta in 2009.

Her style, grace, petite frame and aura were all contributing factors to her immediate success in the “city of entertainment.” Within one year Asia signed with SDA Talent Management and Bloc South Talent Agency un-exclusively.

Since then, she has ventured out into modeling, hosting and acting. Asia was featured in the 2010 Beauty/Fashion Winter Issue of Kontrol Magazine one of Atlanta’s renowned online magazines. Both impressed with and intrigued by her exquisiteness and charm, the editors of Kontrol invited Asia to model at their second annual charity fashion show, benefiting Sickle Cell Anemia.

Asia was the principle dancer for A Cinderella Story: Once Upon A Song- the Warner Brothers movie that premiered in 2012 on ABC Family.

She served as a dancer for R&B and Pop singer Wish. Asia has also opened for the Eriam Sisters showcase, where performed to the hit single Diary by the America’s Got Talent Semi-Finalist. Waiting In Line an Off Broadway Play held at the National

Black Theatre. Other principal dancer roles include: Beat Street 2012.

Up to date Asia Diamond has worked with movie director Ang Lee on set of Billy Lynn's Long Half Time Walk coming out Nov 2016, R&B singer Felixx and more. Her hosting career has taken off by storm she has had the chance to interview Naturi Naughton, Kiyah Wright, Elise Neal , Tye Tribbet, Lisa Raye and more.

Asia Diamond has now also found a passion in public relations. She currently works for Midwest Black Hair Magazine, Six Twelve Magazine, YV Magazine, AtLA Takeova Dance Convention. Asia is keeping herself busy and looks forward to the future.

Each business Shalakemia has launched was born through her vision of creating a more productive community through positivity, motivation, and empowerment. It is no wonder that he produces star quality material when he has worked alongside the producers and directors of “City of Angels” starring Robert Denario and “Eraser” with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Vanessa Williams. “Within the years to come of my career, I plan to tackle some of the most hard-hitting social issues in today’s society: gang violence, adoption, bullying, molestation, and rape abortion.

I believe in having fun with art, too, so there will be

comedy and romance films that I will do as well. Laughter is good for the soul. We all need it.” This artist’s work is most notably characterized by thought provocation. Many a film can make one laugh. Many a film can make one cry, but not all films keep you thinking in the following days and nights.

Jamar manages simultaneously to provide audiences with that much needed escape from the hardships of life while also moving people to action to alleviate those hardships.

Beyond the latter distinction and his particular passion for the dramatic genre, his artistry as a whole is free of confines and is relatable to diverse audiences.

“The thing about writing is that all the negativity that one experiences or goes through can be taken and used it in a positive way. I do that through my writings – make people aware of the different issues that not only I face in life but others as well.”

Growing up in a home that was physically, mentally, and emotionally abusive, all Jamar knew was that he wanted to help

make the world a better place.

Despite lacking a wholly nurturing home, he found the strength, faith and perseverance he needed to fulfill the dreams he often scribbled down while sitting in his childhood bedroom. He first thought he would contribute to bettering society through the criminal justice system.

Upon graduating high school in 2004, Jamar decided to attend the University of Arkansas at Monticello majoring in criminal justice, but God had other plans. In 2006, he wrote his first stage play entitled “Hate Cost Me Everything,” and from that point, he knew it was through the arts that he was meant to make the world a better place. It was not easy, however.

Over the past ten years, Jamar went from sleeping in homeless shelters, to sleeping in his car and even sometimes hospital waiting areas – all the while, never losing faith in his calling. Through all of the adversity and discouragement from others, Jamar continued to work on his craft, and all of his hard work has paid off.

“I will continue to keep faith and work hard while doing it. I am a firm believer in James 2:20 ‘But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?’”

Today, Jamar is a successful business man touring the country encouraging troubled teens through speaking engagements and solidifying working relationships with domestic violence organizations – especially those in the DFW area. In addition to the latter, this year’s tour also consists of meeting with various film industry professionals in New York and Atlanta in order to brainstorm ways of bringing novelty entertainment to you.

Jamar is currently working on a feature length film entitled “Desire” where he has partnered with OC Films, LLC. hantel Christie is a 21 year old Seattle native currently living in Los Angeles, CA. Chantel is a published author and songwriter. Chantel has recently released her signature cosmetic line Chantel Nicole Cosmetics. Chantel Nicole Cosmetics features an array of beautiful and feminine shades of lip glosses and matte lipsticks. She plans to expand the line in the upcoming months.

Chantel was also featured on this season of Basketball Wives LA alongside her mother Jackie Christie. It was a whirlwind experience, but every experience is a lesson learned. Moving forward from Basketball Wives LA, Chantel has decided to revisit her music career and focus on her cosmetic line.

Chantel is a determined and motivated young lady who’s very passionate about giving back. Her nonprofit organization, The Chani Girl Foundation, was designed to motivate young girls and to educate them on the importance of putting their selves first by loving the skin that they are in. Also, her company Hot Young Jane was developed with the intent to unite hard working women that do it all. Hot Young Janes are Jack's of all trades, the female version of a hustler. ules Nobles is one of the newest young actresses to surface on the Atlanta film scene. A Mississippi native, she got her love of the stage from years of competing in beauty pageants. The fashion model-turned-actress starred in the indie film “Greed”, as Sky (Lead Detective) which is coming this summer.

2010 opened an opportunity for Jules to become the host of her own online talk show entitled, "Lights, Camera, Action LIVE".

Preproduction began in late 2010 and the show was set to launch in mid-2011, but additional opportunities opened for Jules to pursue acting.

Jules Nobles has been featured as supporting lead actress in upcoming comedy film, “Uncommon Law”, directed by Brian Work, and completed her first leading role in the 2012 drama release, “A Family On Edge”, directed by Bruce Locke.

Jules has played the role of Adele in the Stageplay “Storyville Blues” and also stars as football wife, mother and boutique owner, Destiny Stevens in the TV pilot, The 4th Quarter. She has also done extra work in the Film “Fit”, starring Anne Hathaway and Robert DeNiro.

Jules Nobles got her formal education in nursing, from the Mississippi University for Women (MUW), but her love of acting continues keep her busy in New York City.

Jules was a presenter at Harvest Magazine Launch Party in Brooklyn, New York and will be hosting events at Jersey City Fashion Week in September 2015. Jules will be featured in Urban Grandstand Magazine in May. Always a go-getter, pleasant and humble, Jules is diligently taking full advantage of the many opportunities that are coming her way and will surely be one to watch in 2015.

D

enisha Raychelle Hardeman, better known as Dede, was born in Houston, TX on February 18, 1991. Denisha grew up entertaining people.

She would perform all the time in church plays, speeches, praise dancing, etc.. The church noticed a spark in Denisha which prompted her to want to continue acting and singing. Growing up Denisha also took on another hobby, writing.

She won many creative writing contests in school and her poem “Halloween Night” won a poetry contest and was published in a poetry book when she was 8 years old.

In Elementary school, Denisha was the captain of her school cheerleading team and was also the president of the school when she was in 4th grade. After noticing her leadership and creative schools, Mading Elementary’s new choir director, Mrs. Roache, decided to start an acting program.

She starred Denisha in her first stage play, “A Christmas Story,” where Denisha played the quirky and funny version of Little Red Riding Hood. In middle school, Denisha auditioned for Pershing Middle School for fine arts. On her first auditioned, the theater teachers told her that they wanted her in the school no matter what. She did not have to attend the 2nd and 3rd auditions.

During her time at Pershing, Denisha starred in “Cinderella” as Cinderella, “The Wizard of Oz” as Dorothy, “For Colored Girls” as the Lady In Red, and “Romeo and Juliet” as Juliet. Denisha also won best actress for the school her 6th and 8th grade year.

After middle school, Denisha auditioned for Houston’s High School for Performing and Visual Arts, the school where Beyoncé and many

Houston stars attended. She made it past the first two rounds for an acceptance into HSPVA but decided to go to Pearland High School to focus on sports. She also declined an invitation from her theater coach to have Denisha move to New York and begin a career in acting. Denisha got a track and academic scholarship to Southern Methodist University. While studying at SMU, Denisha decided to take theater classes. Her professor at the time encouraged Denisha to switch majors to theater because of her talent. During her junior year of college, Denisha left SMU for a couple of months for personal reasons. While at home in Houston, TX, she decided to take her professor’s advice and get back into acting. Denisha signed to Page Parkes 713 Commercial and Theatrical agency. Within a couple of weeks, Denisha was auditioning and got chosen to be in the now Oscar winning film, “Django Unchained.”

While only an extra, Denisha was picked by Quentin Tarantino to come in for a couple of scenes to do some crosses and walks and to be on camera more. This is where she met none other than the famous Samuel L. Jackson who encouraged her to follow her dreams of acting.

In September 2012, Denisha moved to Los Angeles to attend The New York Film AcademyUniversal Studios where she was immediately chosen to be in student films, independent films, and shorts. Quickly, Denisha started networking and auditioning on her own. While attending a class, Denisha met actress Paula Jai Parker who quickly became Denisha’s mentor. Paula starred Denisha in her directorial debut “My Love and Hip Hop” as the lead Melanie. Paula also seen the drive and passion in Denisha. casting for the show “The White Sistas” which was premiered on the TV One show “Hollywood Divas.” Denisha also begin writing more.

Denisha wrote her first feature film, “8 Lanes” which is now in pre- production.

It is loosely based on her life in college where she endured abuse, sexual assault, depression, and suicidal tendencies. It also revolves around her life running track and field. She wrote the script in order to help women and men who have went through the same things she went through. She is currently looking for investors and attaching big talent in the film to start shooting by October 2015.

She recently just finished writing the book version of the movie “8 Lanes” and is looking to release the book in May. Along with the book, Denisha will be starting her own charity entitled “Unhushed” which will help women, men, and children, anyone open up and speak up about anything going on in their lives. She is also working on a second book named after her charity, “Unhushed” and a third book which will be a poetry book sent from women and men who have encountered situations like the ones in “8 Lanes.”

Denisha also just finished her first horror film which has drawn the interest of Mikelti Williamson (Forrest Gump, ATL, Con Air, Final Destination) who wants to direct the film. The film is entitled, “Black Magick” which is about a young girl and her family’s voodoo secrets.

Denisha has also co-written a comedy, “Blazin’” which will be shot later this spring. She also has two comedy movies coming out which she helped write, “The Label” and “Dumb Ish.” Denisha is also in the works of creating a script to one of the biggest cases against a school district to date. She is also working on 2 romantic comedies and an all-female action drama which will be shot later this spring and early summer 2015.

Denisha, only 24 years of age, is looking to take over Hollywood by writing, producing, and acting extraordinary movies. She is also taking a liking to becoming an author and creating books that will help people grow to become whoever they want to be.

SUGAR AND WHY IT IS MAKING YOU FAT by Jacquelyn Hollister-Tyson

id you know that eating too many high GI (Glycemic Index) carbohydrates such as potatoes, white rice, white breads, pastas, enriched flour, soda, candy, cakes, and cookies, can put your body in fat storage mode? Well, if you are trying to lose weight, this is definitely NOT the goal—reducing existing fat stores is!

What is the Glycemic Index?

The glycemic index is a measure of how quickly certain carbohydrates affect your blood sugar.

Low glycemic index carbohydrates result in the gradual release of glucose (sugar) into the bloodstream, while consuming high glycemic index carbohydrates result in the quick release of glucose into the bloodstream, which is not good. This is because the cells of the body can only use so much glucose at one time, resulting in the rest getting stored as fat. Eating low glycemic index carbohydrates reduces the body’s need for insulin (also known as the “fat storage” hormone), and in turn, allows your body to use its stored fat for energy.
