The Elegant Luncheon was attended by more than 240 people with the presence of the Mayor of the City of Miami, the Honorable Francis Suárez as well as the Honorable Mayor of Miami-Dade County Daniella Levine Cava.

The “Lifetime Achievement” award was received by the distinguished Adrienne Arsht, who was the person who donated $ 30 million for the city of Miami to have a fine arts center.

he Miami Lakes Chamber of Commerce is more active and youthful than ever following the Chamber’s first in-person luncheon since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in May 26th. Under the new leadership of President Fred Senra, partner of Miami Lakes Auto Mall and a thirty-eight year resident, the Chamber is ushering itself to the next generation of Miami Lakes businessmen and women through the newly formed Young Professionals Committee. The Committee is focused on re-energizing the Chamber and spreading its influence in novel avenues to promote a strong and vibrant local economy. The Committee plans to significantly increase the online, digital presence of the Chamber of Commerce in order to better reach local businesses throughout Miami Lakes. Newly elected President Fred Senra, beaming with optimism, had only positive comments to say regarding the Committee and its digital goals: “I selected the members of The Young Professionals Committee because they each are young, dynamic business people with passion for the Miami Lakes business community and

economy. The committee will rejuvenate the Chamber with fresh ideas and energy, starting with social media and internet outreach. I want to bring the Chamber’s guidance and helpful tools to all the local business in Miami Lakes we can reach - this committee will only help us expand on that goal!” The Committee consists of young, local professionals hand selected by President Fred Senra for their experience in digital marketing and their expertise of Miami Lakes. The members are: Brandon Diaz, LSSGB, MSM of the Town of Miami Lakes Department of Communication and Local Affairs, Rosy Barroso, LMHC, mental health specialist and owner of The Therapy Labs, Nancy Fernandez, client service manager of Apollo Bank, Philip Wyllie, leasing agent of the Graham Companies, and Matthew Casamayor of AC Graphics Digital. The Committee will assist the Chamber in its shift of focus onto popular social media outlets such as LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram to reach the rising young professionals Miami Lakes continues to attract within its

borders. Leveraging the wealth of business and local experience offered by existing Chamber members gives young and new business owners a source for relevant information and relationship building opportunities with other local businesses. In addition to its online outreach plan the Chamber’s traditional events and luncheons will resume, providing new and existing members with networking and business development opportunities in Miami Lakes and throughout greater Miami-Dade. Marlins’ “Connect” with uniforms during cuban heritage celebration weekend By Lou Hernandez

he Miami Marlins celebrated Cuban Heritage over the weekend of May 21-23, at loanDepot Park, unveiling new uniforms honoring the Triple A Cuban Sugar Kings franchise of the 1950s. “The Marlins City Connect uniform is inspired by Latin America’s contribution to baseball, with a legacy red jersey that captures the energetic vibe and culture throughout South Florida and Latin America,” explained a Marlins’ news release. The team hinted at the Sugar Kings original uniforms by adding a sugar-sack patch and crown outline on one sleeve with Miami Marlins imprinted inside, and the same crown design on the front of their cap with the letters “MM.” But otherwise, the more modern color scheme of legacy red jerseys with wide pinstripes, solid white pants and powder blue stockings and caps (with legacy red bills) prevailed. The event was a hit with the community. At just under 9,000 fans for each contest, “all three games were attended at full “pandemic capacity,” according to Juan C. Martínez, the Marlins Director of Events and Promotions. The Miami team recognized Cuban Independence Day (May 20) in the first of three encounters on Friday night. Saturday’s game featured Cookie Rojas as the Marlins’ principle link to the Cuban team. A member of the 1959 International League champion Sugar Kings, Rojas recalled the uniqueness of that winning club as it was composed by a diverse group of athletes from three Latin American countries, along with several North American players. Rojas, who went on to play 16 years in the major leagues, also voiced his admiration for the Sugar Kings’ owner, Roberto “Bobby” Maduro. Maduro’s greatest aspiration was for his team to become the major leagues’ first international franchise. Maduro’s oldest surviving son, Jorge, threw out the “virtual first pitch” of Sunday’s afternoon game. It was a three-generation toss, as Maduro heaved the ball to his son George Jr., who relayed it to his son Mason, revealed on the Marlins’ jumbotron scoreboard before the start of the game. “My father is rejoicing somewhere in heaven,” said Jorge, “seeing that after 60 years his dream of the Sugar Kings making it to the major leagues has finally come true— at least through the uniforms.” The Marlins beat the New York Mets two out of three games, to add to the overall success of the weekend festivities.

orld Elder Abuse Awareness Day is on June 15. On this day, and throughout the month, communities, seniors, caregivers, governments, organizations, and the private sector unite to prevent the mistreatment of and violence against older people. Social Security imposter scams are widespread across the United States. Scammers use sophisticated tactics to deceive you into providing sensitive information or money. They target everyone – even the elderly – and their tactics continue to evolve. Most recently, Social Security’s Office of the Inspector General (OIG) has received reports of phone scammers creating fake versions of the identification badges most Federal employees use to gain access to Federal buildings. The scammers may text or email photos of the fake badges to convince potential victims of their legitimacy. These badges use government symbols, words, and even names and photos of real people, which are available on government websites or through internet searches. If you receive a suspicious letter, text, email, or call, hang up or do not respond. You should know

how to identify when it’s really Social Security. We will NEVER: • Text or email images of an employee’s official government identification. • Suspend your Social Security number. • Threaten you with arrest or other legal action unless you immediately pay a fine or fee. • Require payment by retail gift card, wire transfer, internet currency, or cash by mail. • Promise a benefit increase or other assistance in exchange for payment. • Send official letters or reports containing your personal information via email. We only send text messages if you have opted in to receive texts from us and only in limited situations, including the following: • When you have subscribed to receive updates and notifications by text. • As part of our enhanced security when accessing your personal my Social Security account. If you owe money to us, we will mail you a letter with payment options and appeal rights. We encourage you to report suspected Social Security imposter scams — and other Social

ste hijo de Pariaguán, Estado Anzoátegui de Venezuela, ha tenido a lo largo de toda su trayectoria artística un objetivo muy claro y preciso: cantarle al amor. Sus letras románticas hicieron que el público de su amada Venezuela lo llamara “El Romántico del Llano”. Basta hablar con él y escucharlo cantar, para tener la certeza que es un excelente artista y un gran ser humano a quien las historias de muchos lo conmueven y termina componiendo una canción que casi siempre se convierte en un éxito. Muchas de ellas también son historias propias, de sus vivencias y de sus experiencias en el amor. Welcome program with the patriotic Presentation of the colors by the Cuban American Veterans Association (CAVA) And the National Anthem by Pastor Inger Hanna, Minister of the Gospel Pledge of Allegiance by Mayor Robert Martell, Town of Medley. The invocation and Benediction by Pastor Franklin Rodriguez and Bishop Keith Robinson. The American Rescue Plan increases financial assistance and makes more people eligible for help

here have been several changes by the government recently that allow more people living in Florida to sign-up for affordable health insurance. President Biden recently signed a COVID-19 relief law (American Rescue Plan) that provides additional financial assistance and allows even more Floridians to get health insurance through the Affordable Care Act (ACA), sometimes referred to as Obamacare. The government also has reopened enrollment in the Federal Exchange until May 15, so Floridians can take advantage of the new financial assistance options that are available to them. And with the recent Temporary Protected Status (TPS) decree, thousands of Venezuelans currently living in the U.S. may also qualify for an ACA health plan with financial assistance due to their changed immigration status.

• If you are currently enrolled in an ACA plan, you may now be eligible for more financial assistance to lower your monthly bill or upgrade your plan for the same cost. The monthly cost will decrease roughly $50 per person and $85 per policy on average. • If you couldn’t get financial assistance (or a subsidy)

in the past because your income was too high, you may be able to now. More than 300,000 Floridians are now eligible for financial assistance who didn’t qualify previously. • Four out of five people who sign-up for an ACA plan can find one for a payment of $10 or less per month.
