Informe de AARP revela que 40% de adultos latinos ha sido blanco de una estafa

Se identifican las principales estafas dirigidas a los latinos

egún el informe Consumer Fraud in America publicado por AARP, 40% de los adultos latinos ha sido blanco de una estafa, y 20% ha perdido dinero a causa de ello. El informe identifica una tendencia preocupante de victimización repetida: cerca de 60% de los adultos latinos que perdió dinero a causa de una estafa fue víctima más de una vez. El informe detalla con qué frecuencia los latinos son blanco de estafas, y si bien frecuentemente son víctima de impostores de agencias del Gobierno, a menudo son también blanco de estafas relacionadas con los servicios públicos y de otras que se valen de sus nexos cons abuelos. Las estafas relacionadas con el empleo (ofertas ficticias de trabajo desde casa y anuncios laborales falsos) y con la lotería, también figuran entre las más comunes dirigidas a los latinos. “Descubrimos que los adultos mayores latinos que han sido víctimas de una estafa son menos propensos a denunciarla”, dijo Karina Hertz, directora de Comunicaciones Estratégicas de AARP. “Ser víctima de una estafa puede hacer que una persona se sienta indefensa, pero hay cosas que se pueden hacer. Nuestra Línea de ayuda de la Red contra el Fraude, de AARP cuenta con especialistas voluntarios capacitados en asuntos de fraude, que pueden ayudar a las víctimas y a sus familias a determinar qué medidas tomar después de una estafa”, añadió Hertz. La encuesta también reveló que: • El 58% de los adultos latinos no ha registrado aún

su número de teléfono en el Registro Nacional “No me llame”. • Menos de dos de cada cinco adultos latinos reportan usar un servicio de bloqueo de llamadas automatizadas en su teléfono celular o fijo. • Más de la mitad de los adultos latinos reporta usar la misma contraseña o una contraseña similar en todas sus cuentas.

Para detectar con mayor facilidad las estafas, la Red contra el Fraude, de AARP, recomienda inscribirse en el Registro Nacional “No me llame” y usar un servicio de bloqueo de llamadas. El riesgo de fraude también puede reducirse con el uso de contraseñas diferentes para distintas cuentas. El informe también detalló algunos hábitos alentadores que muchos latinos usan para evitar ser víctimas de estafas. Entre ellos, no participar en concursos que ofrecen premios o regalos a cambio de información personal y no responder llamadas de números desconocidos. De hecho, solo 1 de cada 10 adultos latinos dice que siempre participa en ofertas de premios o regalos con su información personal. La Red contra el Fraude, de AARP, es un recurso gratuito para todos. A través de información actualizada, faculta a los consumidores para que puedan detectar y evitar las estafas, y conecta a quienes han sido blanco de estafas con especialistas de nuestra línea de ayuda contra el fraude, quienes brindan apoyo y orientación sobre los próximos pasos. arbara Alonso, gran cantante y autora de varias canciones que proximamente sera premiada como Cantautora del 2021 por los premios artísticos “Elsa Awards” aquí en Miami, nos habla de su nueva grabación compuesta e interpretada por ella, cuyo título muy significativo del sufrimiento del pueblo Cubano es “Dime hasta cuando” , nos dice: “Esta cancion la escribi a todos los Cubanos y a la causa de ver una Cuba libre”. Después de su regreso de su gira artística por Honduras donde puso de manifiesto sus sentimientos patrios de “ Patria y Vida” y donde recibió una calurosa acogida por el pueblo hondureno en sus presentaciones; contando entre otras un concierto totalmente vendido y con la asistencia del Exmo. Embajador de España en Honduras y miembro de su consulado. Echoes in Cuba resound in Miami

he echoes of Patria y Vida from Cuba continue to resonate in a mural in the “Callejón del Gallo” on Calle Ocho in Little Havana behind the Havana Collection store. The mural is the sounding board of the Cuban exile people in the diaspora, of the suffering of the captive island subjugated by the communist dictatorship that calls for “Patria Vida” as a new libertarian theme embodied in the brushes of the artists who contributed to such a patriotic work. The idea that emerged in the works of artists Manuel Rodríguez Bello (El Chino) and Omar Corrales Mora began as a result of the demonstrations that took place in various cities on the island of Cuba against the communist government. This project is partially financed by the owner of the Havana Collection establishment, Mr. Fidel Asís López, who kindly donated the wall of the establishment. The white color of the map alludes to a Cuba of peace, democracy and freedom, surrounded by a red halo symbolizing the value of all those who fight for their freedom. El mural es la caja de resonancia del pueblo del exilio cubano en la diáspora, del sufrimiento de la Isla cautiva sojuzgada por la dictadura comunista que pide “Patria Vida” como nuevo tema libertario plasmado en los pinceles de los artistas que contribuyeron a tan patriótica obra. La idea surgida entre los artistas Manuel Rodríguez Bello (El Chino) y Omar Corrales Mora se inicia a raíz de las manifestaciones producidas en varias ciudades de la Isla de Cuba en contra del gobierno comunista. anagement at Catholic Hospice announced the re-opening of the Inpatient Care Center at Holy Cross Health in Fort Lauderdale after a fourbed expansion and renovation of the Unit. The Inpatient Center originally opened in 2013 with a 10-bed unit. The expansion is credited to the successful partnership with Holy Cross Health, the high quality of care and services provided and increased demand for hospitalbased hospice care. In addition to the carefully appointed private patient rooms the updated unit will include private spaces for families to gather, a quiet prayer or mediation room, accommodations for family meals, pet visits and opportunities for patients to enjoy therapeutic virtual reality experiences. A blessing of the Inpatient Care Center was provided by The Most Reverend Enrique E. Delgado, Auxiliary Bishop of Miami, and members of the leadership teams from both entities and local dignitaries were present at a private ribbon cutting to commemorate the re-opening on June 29th. “Since the opening of the Inpatient Care Center at Holy Cross eight years ago, Catholic Hospice has provided end of life care to hundreds of patients. The American Rescue Plan increases financial assistance and makes more people eligible for help

here have been several changes by the government recently that allow more people living in Florida to sign-up for affordable health insurance. President Biden recently signed a COVID-19 relief law (American Rescue Plan) that provides additional financial assistance and allows even more Floridians to get health insurance through the Affordable Care Act (ACA), sometimes referred to as Obamacare. The government also has reopened enrollment in the Federal Exchange until May 15, so Floridians can take advantage of the new financial assistance options that are available to them. And with the recent Temporary Protected Status (TPS) decree, thousands of Venezuelans currently living in the U.S. may also qualify for an ACA health plan with financial assistance due to their changed immigration status.

• If you are currently enrolled in an ACA plan, you may now be eligible for more financial assistance to lower your monthly bill or upgrade your plan for the same cost. The monthly cost will decrease roughly $50 per person and $85 per policy on average. • If you couldn’t get financial assistance (or a subsidy)

in the past because your income was too high, you may be able to now. More than 300,000 Floridians are now eligible for financial assistance who didn’t qualify previously. • Four out of five people who sign-up for an ACA plan can find one for a payment of $10 or less per month.

Now in its 20th year, the Miami Spice showcases the very best of Greater Miami and Miami Beach’s diverse cuisine and invites locals and visitors to enjoy reasonably priced fare across local favorites and hidden gems.
