“At the “Vasile Mitru” Secondary School Tașca, the first meeting between the Romanian partners and those from Croatia, Macedonia, Latvia, Poland and Turkey took place between the 25th and the 29th of November. ”Vasile Mitru” Secondary School Taşca and the local community have been involved in a European Erasmus + project, which has recently started, with the first meeting with European partners from Croatia, Macedonia, Latvia, Poland and Turkey. The topic of C1 mobility in Romania was ’’Discrimination and violence in schools - common and different aspects’’. The documentary visits during the few days spent in the area revealed the beauty of the landscape from Cheile Bicazului and Lacu Roşu and allowed everyone to discover the story of the Neamţ Fortress. “The students participated in team games with their coordinators, went to animal shelters, fed them and realized that being friends with animals helps them to become more tolerant and empathetic. The anthems of the project were sung during this meeting, teachers and students being participants in training workshops with activities against violence and discrimination, they presented the project logos and the recipes of the friendship perfumes, prepared by each partner country. They also presented a star athlete from their countries and then the students answered the questions in the Kahoot questionnaires, which were real fun. The teachers participated with works at the International Symposium on the topic “Discrimination and violence in schoolcommon and different aspects”, they met the psychologist Manuela Cenuşă, who made a presentation on the forms, causes and means of combating issues such as violence and discrimination”, said teacher Gabriela Mădălina

countries enrolled in the project, respectively Croatia, Macedonia, Latvia, Poland and Turkey. Friendship relashionships have already been made and everyone is looking forward to meeting again in Poland in March 2020. "Our school management and the project team thank the authorities for their support in carrying out the project, the European partners for their team spirit and colleagues, parents and students for cooperation and involvement. Together we have already learned to say NO to violence and discrimination ", said the headmistress of Taşca School. It should be mentioned that, during the actions, the mayoress of Taşca was among the guests, providing participants with a lesson in good understanding between the school and the local administration.

Tuesday, November 24th, 2019 Materials: 2 flip-chart sheets, markers , 8 sheets of red cardboard A4 size, a big sheet of white cardboard, white A4 sheets. Time: 50 minutes Number of participants: 16 students Activity Layout 10 minutes: Each student introduces him/herself-first name, how he/she likes to be called, writes his/her nickname on a note that he or she will stick on the nametag, then says something about him/her: age, hobbies.

11

Write down three words to express what made you help someone. Write down three words to express the way you were aggressed. … 10 minutes: While the teachers check students’notes, the students draw, on a sheet of cardboard, the shape of their palm and inside it they draw an object or a symbol that represents a dream/hobby of theirs. 10 minutes: On the flip-chart sheets, students, helped by teachers, systemize what they have written on their notes, as follows: Group I

Group II

Types of violence 12

- verbal - physical - psychological - by gestures - by our deeds/actions Words that hurt: … Words that caress?:… What the victim of aggression feels:

What a person feels when he/she is helped

How the aggressor develops in the future … How the one who helps develops in the future Groups will check their systematization and then the other’s work. The two sheets of paper will be stuck to each other so as to form a book. Groups gather again and students draw conclusions: if you have hurt someone, there is a chance to ‘repair’ your bad actions. 5 minutes - Game: The HEART Each student gets a cardboard heart. In turns, students from Group 1 say a word that hurts and all the students fold the heart each time they hear a word. Then,, in turns, each student from Group 2 says a word which repairs the bad ones. Students unfold the hearts each time they hear a good word. Teachers ask if the heart looks the same as it did at the beginning. Conclusion: even if the one who hurts apologizes and the one who was hurt forgives him/her, in the soul there remain scars that can even bleed. 5 minutes: The workshop ends by presenting the sheets of cardboard with the palms drawn on them. Students from one group will try to guess whose palms they are(from the other group). They will notice they can’t guess, because all palms look the same. They will also notice that every child has a dream, a hobby... The title will be written on each sheet of cardboard: My hand is like your hand, I have a dream and you have a dream! Outcomes of the activities: photos taken during the activities, the flip-chart sheets, students’ notes. 13

2. Exercise for knowing each other - Each student tells his\her name and how he\she wants to be called He\she mentions a quality and a bad quality that he\she has 3. The body of toxic messages Each student writes on notes all the negative things that have happened to him\her or the ugly words that have been addressed to him\her, and then they throw them away in the wastepaper bin. 4. Each participant sticks to him or her post-its on which he or she wrote negative things about him or herself. Then the other participants release a note that they will replace with a message containing a message transformed into a positive one. 5. There are groups of four students and they are asked to draw the profile of a violent student, taking into account the types of violence. The drawings will be exposed to be viewed by the participants in the gallery tour giving feed-back with the help of the posters with smiley faces. 6. Locked doors. Unlocked doors Students receive a lock (drawn on a post) and are invited to imagine what their life would be like if they belonged to a family where acts of violence were present. A locked door is drawn on a panel, on which the students have glued the ideas expressed. Then they receive a fastened key that they have noted some solutions, joining the locks with situations presenting the problem in front of the participants.

14

WEDNESDAY

workshops meeting with a psychologist visit to animal shelters

5. SHADOWS There are 6 ''shadows'' of children that we fix with magnets on the board. Discussion about these shadows: whether or not they have gender, name, personality. Then we divide the children into 4 teams. Each team receive a ''shadow'' with the requirement to customize it by drawing. The gender, the name, the age, the color of the eyes and the hair, the clothing are established. All in just 30 minutes (with the timer designed on the board to be efficient and concentrated). Each team present their character in front of the class and fixes it with sheet magnets for easy viewing by the whole class. We analyze all the characters carefully. We also discuss the conflicts that arise in teams and the fact that each child wanted his ideas to be implemented as much as possible because

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION: 1. The chain of solidarity. Each student writes on a strip of colored paper a message expressing their opposition to violence ( be it in school, family, society, etc.) and then presents their anti-violence messages and then staples the ends of the sheet of paper in the form of a bill 2. These hands do not hit, these hands .... Students and teachers draw the outline of their hand and write anti-violence messages starting with "these hands do not hit, these hands ..." 3. The students are divided into groups and the teacher asks them to create a slogan and an anti-violence poster 4. Ending game 15

everyone's desire was to create a character as beautiful as possible, to represent them. (Following these conflicts, children learn and negotiate. We call each team in front of the class and ask them to offend their character, looking at him in front. We ask them to address their nicknames, offenses untrue things, but we do not leave room for the vows and vulgar language. At each offense they say, the game coordinator breaks a piece of each character” s body. The more they said, the more the character was broken. Hand over their broken pieces. We tell them that it can be repaired by asking for forgiveness. I gave the characters back in teams and told them to apologize. Then I told them I could glue the pieces together again.

Conclusions

SAY NO TO VIOLENCE AND DISCRIMINATION ASSERTIVENESS- EMPATHY Presentation made by Teacher Psychologist Manuela CENUȘĂ AGGRESSIVE BEHAVIOURS:

Individuals learn aggression indirectly ( when seeing that someone who has had aggressive behaviour was rewarded or was not punished);

Non-verbal aggression (gestures, threatening eyesight, slamming the door); Verbal aggression (insults, offense, labelling, calling names, threats); Disruptive behaviour (disobeying, breaking rules); Refusing to accomplish tasks); Missing school; Aggressive physical reactions; Telling lies;

PREVENTING AGGRESSION ASSERTIVENESS:

BY

Assertiveness is the ability to express our emotions and beliefs without affecting the rights of the others. It means the ability: -of communicating directly, openly and honestly; -of expressing negative emotions without attack to the others; -of making or refusing requests; -of saying NO without feeling guilty or embarrassed;

CAUSES OF AGGRESSION: Aggression is an innate tendency; Aggressive behavious are based on frustration; Individuals learn aggression directly(imitation, models, negative examples from various sources: video games, cartoons, TV shows, unattended access to internet);

THOUGHTS AND EMOTIONS FOR EACH SITUATION, WE IDENTIFY THE THOUGHTS AND EMOTIONS 16

You enter the class and two of your colleagues from the first row start giggling; You think..........; You feel..........; You have bought a new jacket that you like very much. Your friends tease you and tell you it doesn’t suit you; You think..........; You feel.........; You don’t get on very well with Emil; he has told lies about you; today, the Physics teacher set you in the same project team; You think..........; You feel..........; Today, on the school corridor, an older student has yelled at you to get out of his way. You think.........; You feel.........;

EMPATHY– A means of approaching discrimination     

Empathy- the ability of transposing yourself in another person’s place; Empathy –power and will of feeling what someone else feels(child or adult); Empathy – understanding the actions of our fellows; Empathy –as opposed to labelling, or to judging people’s acts; Empathy – strength in communication and in relastionship with people;

GAMES I would like you to tell me....; I wouldn’t like you to tell me.....; Objective: knowing one’s own desires and fears in the relationship with the others. Anger game:* I get angry when.....*It’s not fair when.....*; (For children between 3 and 13 years old); Angry tower Anger balloons Anger shield Effigies

Children are curious but they must be educated and taught that there are also other cultures, values, or people that deserve to be respected. Discrimination, under all its forms, be them subtle or violent, create a vicious cycle of disadvantage. Its effects go beyond generations and this is why children are disadvantaged from many points of view. Investing in children means investing in our future!

DISCRIMINATION

GAMES

Discrimination of people of other ethnicity, nationality, religion, age; Discrimination of people with special educational needs; Discrimination by gender; Practicing tolerance; People are different, but equal when it comes to law; Children must grow up in a background of love, friendship, and chance equality in order to wish to live in a society based on such values.
