Dear Mr. Lukez, th I am a 4 year Masters of Architecture student at the University of Kansas. I am writing in hopes of securing an architecture internship position for Summer 2012. I will be available for an interview in Boston from March 19-‐23. I have researched firms around the country and I am confident that I would excel as a member of the Paul Lukez Architecture team. My skill set and variety of experiences in the design and building industries have prepared me to become a productive member of your design process. I have a passion for collaboration and I am eager to participate in compelling conversation about design solutions with experienced professionals who have shown excellence in their field. Paul Lukez Architecture has used its understanding of material composition, connection detailing, and light modulation to build a reputation as one of Boston’s most innovative firms. I believe that each material chosen brings a life of its own to a completed project. It is important to understand the deeper implications of the texture, color, mass and form of each material and how they will work together to inform the subconscious experience of a space. I also find the connection between nature and the built environment to be one of the most exciting aspects of any project, yet few firms place enough emphasis on this critical relationship. The dialogue that a building has with the world around it fascinates me, and my desire to further explore this connection has led me to your firm. I possess the skills and experience required to help carry on this tradition. Your participation in international design projects, especially in China, is another thing I find particularly compelling about your firm. I believe globalization is the future of our industry and I look forward to learning everything I can about this type of practice. I have been selected to participate in an internship placement program in Beijing, which will begin in late August. It would be a remarkable opportunity for me to gain some experience working on Chinese projects before I depart. Your culture of innovation and design integrity would provide the perfect opportunity for me to flourish. With my passion for design, collaboration, and materials research, as well as my skills in digital modeling, drawing and physical craft, I believe I would excel as a 2012 summer intern at Paul Lukez Architecture. Thank you for your consideration. I look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, Michael P. Fahey 1137 Indiana St. Apt. 3 Lawrence, KS 66044 402.881.1339 mpfahey@ku.edu
