During the 1920s, Ogden Dunes was the home of a large ski jump that was used for training Olympic ski jumpers. The hilly landscape continues to be used for training local athletes today. Ogden Dunes is known for many things, including its picturesque location within the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. Featuring pristine sand, swimming, boating, fishing and hiking, it is one of the most popular beaches in the Midwest. The town is also home to a number of parks with soccer fields, basketball courts, playgrounds, picnic set-ups, tennis courts, and a walking trail that cuts through the town and connects to the Indiana Dunes.

Local housing includes lakeside cottages, beachside bungalows, as well as modern single-family homes, many with beach access and lakeside views. The Portage Township School System serves the area, offering K-12 education. Interstate 94 and the Indiana Toll Road make transportation throughout the Midwest easily accessible, and the South Shore Metra line provides train service from nearby Michigan City to Chicago and South Bend.
