ome for the corn, stay for the fest. This farming community is built around agriculture, and throws an annual festival to celebrate.

Named after Darien, New York, where many of its founding residents originated, Darien was established in the mid-1800s. Today the town is dedicated to enhancing the life of its residents. As part of Southeast Wisconsin’s Walworth County, Darien is small but mighty, with just over 1,500 residents. The community is known for its Cornfest, held every September in West Park. The event includes a carnival, craft fair, live music, fireworks, parade, tournaments, and of course, corn. Darien also offers abundant recreation, with Wildwood Park offering ample green space and walking trails.

When it comes to housing, Darien offers investment opportunities, freestanding homes and wooded retreats. Students are served by Delavan-Darien School District, which includes K-12 education. With I-43 nearby, the community offers convenient transportation access.

ne of the most popular resort communities in Southeast Wisconsin, Delavan is known for its beautiful lake and unique history.

For nearly 50 years, Delavan was home to 26 circus companies, serving as the winter quarters of the U.S. Olympic Circus. The city’s circus heritage was recognized with a U.S. Postal Service commemorative stamp in 1966. The community’s largest attraction is Delavan Lake, popular with fisherman and boaters. Extensive hiking trails offer more recreation, while Majestic Oaks at Lake Lawn Resort and the Delbrook Golf Club beckon residents and visitors with a combined total of 45 holes of golf. During the winter, there’s plenty of sledding, cross-country skiing and ice fishing.

In addition to the scenic outdoors, Delavan has a number of attractions including a petting zoo, apple orchards, musical theater and the Dancing Horses Theatre. Several events take place throughout the year, including the Delavan Train Show and Scarecrow Fest. Delavan School District has three elementary schools, a middle school and Delavan Darien High School. The city is also home to a number of private schools.

Located in Southeast Wisconsin, East Troy has no shortage of visitors who enjoy some of the Midwest’s top outdoor attractions. Alpine Valley Resort is home to one of Wisconsin’s largest ski hills and also includes a golf course, dining and on-site lodging. During the summer, thousands of concert-goers make their way to the Alpine Valley Music Theatre, where a variety of famed bands and musicians have performed since the 1970s. As the largest county fair in the state of Wisconsin, the Walworth County Fair is considered one of the best of its kind and draws over 100,000 visitors. Veterans Memorial Park hosts Genoa City Days, an annual three-day event featuring food, music, games and more.

Kenosha has a fleet of restored electric streetcars offering a two-mile scenic drive along the lakeshore, to the Metra or various stops along the way. Transportation has always played an important role in Kenosha’s development. Millions of cars and trucks were produced in the city from 1902 to 1988, and rail service has connected Kenosha with Chicago since 1855. Today, Kenosha’s Metra station has nine inbound and outbound trains every weekday.

Almost all of the lakefront here is publicly accessible, with five lakefront parks with beaches. The lakefront is at the heart of the community with outdoor concerts, art fairs and festivals, and a European-style market. The HarborPark development includes lakeside condominiums, a large recreational marina, beaches, parks, fountains and museums. The condominiums offer homebuyers a decidedly city vibe, putting residents within easy walking distance of downtown Kenosha’s arts, unique shops, bars and eateries. Located in Kenosha County, the village was named after the Paddock Family, who moved to the area from New York in the 1830s. While Paddock Lake has grown over the years, it has never lost its charm. The Village of Paddock Lake is home to many beautiful, natural sights, including Paddock and Hooker Lakes. These two lakes provide ample recreational opportunities including fishing, boating, swimming, paddle boarding, and water sports such as water skiing and tubing.

Both lakes are close to the Richard Bong State Recreation Area, where visitors are able to enjoy recreation activities that span almost 30 miles, including biking, cross-country skiing, horseback riding and hiking. walworth

L

ocated within its namesake county, Walworth is a welcoming town with a location that is hard to beat.

In the early 1900s, the area expanded rapidly when vacationers came in droves from Chicago. Walworth remains a popular destination today, with residents and visitors enjoying an abundance of local restaurants and small storefronts in the area. Walworth is home to local farm stands that offer a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables. Mecum Auctions is also headquartered in Walworth and known as the world’s largest collector-car auction company.

Many lakes, rivers and parks are found around Walworth, and the community is also a short drive to surrounding lakeside destinations including Fontana, William’s Bay, and Lake Geneva.
