Apocalypse Ale Works

Apocalypse Ale Works is the first brewery in Forest, Virginia since Thomas Jefferson brewed in the 1800’s at Poplar Forest. In addition to a brewery, they also have a tasting room, enclosed deck, and big backyard with kids games, disc golf baskets, and tables for all to enjoy! Also outdoor dog-friendly. This brewery sells several variety of beers and hard seltzers, and occasionally, has food trucks and live music! The end of bad beer is here!

Apocalypse Cidery & Winery

Located beside Apocalypse Ale Works Brewery in Forest, this cidery and winery is the perfect spot to hang out and enjoy your favorite beverages! Many different wine and cider options are available. There is indoor and outdoor seating, and occasionally live music! Simply Vanilla Gourmet Cheesecakes, a local bakery, also sells their delicious sweet treats inside to pair with our wine or cider. The outdoor area is dog-friendly.

Beale’s features award-winning craft beer and fresh smoked BBQ in downtown Bedford. The draft lineup includes a variety of classic styles, like the Beale’s Gold Helles Lager, alongside an ever-rotating variety of IPAs, sours, ales, and other styles. Hickory Hill Vineyards

As the oldest commercial vineyard and winery at Smith Mountain Lake, a visit to Hickory Hill Vineyards is a must. The first vines were planted in 1984 and after years of vineyard experience, they opened the winery in 2001. With that first commercial vintage, Hickory Hill wines began earning medals of excellence in international wine competitions, with over 80 to date.

This family owned and operated vineyard and winery is located in Goode, in the heart of Bedford County. Peaks of Otter Winery

“Fruit of the Farms Wine” features Dry Apple, Sweet Apple, Crab Apple, Cherry, Berry, Pear, Peach, Plum, Apple Cinnamon and Apple Chili Pepper wines, plus other new and exciting wines. This winery makes over 30 different wines annually and is open on weekends January through March (noon to 5 pm), and daily April through December (noon to 5pm). The rest of the time by chance or appointment. Taste samples of the fresh fruit that wines, jellies, jams, butters, and sweet ciders are made from. A pavilion offers picnic opportunities and a beautiful view. Take a self-guided farm tour and enjoy visiting with our farm animals!

What is the best time of year to explore the trail?

The trail is accessible in all four seasons. Keep in mind that some of the venues are closed during the winter months. Always check the individual websites or call ahead.

What is the best place to begin the trail and the best route to take?

Visitors can begin their journey at any of the establishments and continue in any direction. It’s possible to limit driving by visiting the venues in one area of the county, or visit only the places that specialize in your favorite beverage.

What are the hours?
