01. extremes of sound year: 2015 location: wroclaw, PL author: m. fabicka
„Extremes of sound” project concerns the sound issues in architecture and urbanism. Its purpose is to draw attention to the important role of sound in perception of space. The subject of architectural study is a complex of eight pavilions with dimensions of 10 m x 10 m x 8 m, each of which relates to one sound phenomena. Pavilions are placed on the existing rail tracks and can change their position thanks to a driving mechanism. They can form a variety of urban compositions with specific acoustic properties. Architectural project provides service functions, public service, and cultural functions. Pavilions have the following features: 1 - anechoic chamber, 2 - cafe, 3 - restaurant, 4 - bar,
5 - club, 6 - sound museum, 7 - summer music scene, 8 - cognitive pavilion.
Project is located in Wroclaw City Harbour – an attractive area in the city center, which is in a poor condition and needs revitalization. The project contains a proposal of urban scale harbour cultivation and architectural study of its part, which includes the southern spit. In its center, there is a wide pedestrian route leading to the pavilions. Equipment necessary to the needs of open public space is located in the central part of the route, on its longitudinal axis. In addition, the waterfront is developed for recreation purposes.

02. hotel without windows year: 2014 location: wroclaw, PL author: m. fabicka
The most important and basic function of a hotel is a possibilty of an overnight stay. Therefore a hotel room is is a fundamental unit of a hotel in some way. Obviously there are an equivallent of a home for short stay, but they can follow slightly different rules of design. The main idea of the project is to create various types of rooms with an unusual type of lighting, dimensions and arrangement. The area is not very attractive, so the interior has to be an attraction itself and provide unique experiences for the guests. There are six types of rooms. The light gets inside through the ceiling, balcony or floor. Rooms are long and narrow or square and regular, one or two storrey, with or without balcony and so on. They form a square rim, and the space inside is left empty to create an atrium.
Project is located in Wroclaw, quite far from the city centre but relatively close to the airport. This area is dominated by blocks of flats from the late XX century, which don’t represent any aesthetic value. Hotel is an element of 16 buildings, which have the same diamensions and they are supposed to create frontage. On the south side of the building there is a block of flats and on the north a busy street with tram tracks. 14 meteres on the west and east side there are the neighbouring elements (buildings) of the frontage. Main access for guest is located in the northern part. Southern part is meant to be for vehicles, workers and service.
Rooms are composed from the first to the last level. It depens on the basic level how others will look like. Arrangment of the room modules has an influence on the look of the facades. That’s why they are strictly causal and therefore unpredictable but also honest.

03. art bastion year: 2013 location: wroclaw, PL author: m. fabicka
Art bastion is nothing else like museum of contemporary arts. It’s located next to the national museum in Wroclaw, which has a collection of polish contemporary art, but hasn’t got a representative space to arrange neither permanent nor temporary exhibition. Art bastion is not only surrounded by various attractive buildings and landscapes but also surroundes an old brick bastion itself. The idea of museum is to relate to the existing hill and adapt the bastion as a part of a whole. Contecst is an integral part of the project. Movement of people around this area was used to create the final form, which is also a path itslef. view at the bastion
The building was divided into two parts by a transparent communication zone with glass elevators and stairs. This part enables to see the bastion from the eastern side. Main entrance is located under a huge cantilever. It’s purpose is to open a view on a bastion from the south main path and western side, and accentuate the main entrance. The roof of art bastion is also a path and an exterior exhibition area. It begins from the base of the hill on the nothern side and leads to the cantilever. It’a a place where people can admire all the views and monument surrounding the building and look at the courtyard with the old brick bastion in its centre.

In case of the sheep sheds, the most valuable thing to keep was the wooden construction. Rest of the elements were ineligible to reuse, so the whole idea was to fit new building into the construction frames. Modules of the same shape but various lenght were designed to divide one long shed to a couple smaller buildings. Shed remained in an old shape because of the wooden beams between the modules. They main task was to mark the entrance and give shade in the summer. They could be also used as a frame for the greenery. The proposal consist 5 different ideas for the summer houses for different groups of people, hotel unit with single, double and twin orom sand spa unit fitted with saunas, jacuzzis, massage rooms and a space for joga and exercise.

Space between the buildings naturally created a big courtyard. This area was transformed to sport and lesure complex. The flat terrain was reshaped to an undulating and attractive space with small hills and enclaves. Additional cubatures weren’t designed, because of the desire to design a natural landscape with sport coutrs immersed in greenery. Outdoor facilities included tennis, volleyball and basketball courts, playground, places for campfire and a summer scene (podium).
