CETACEAN
Cetacean is a new L.A.based progressive blackmetal band. Breach | Submerge, is their first effort. It was made first available on CD in early 2016. Next, it will be also out on vinyl, via Apes Who Looked Up Records, on May 27th. The album’s three tracks, ranging from ten to fourteen minutes in length, give enough room to the band to explore different movements and moods. Conceived with an aggressive and progressive attitude, Breach | Submerge shows a mix of postmetal along with some european blackmetal vibes, delivered with an impressive instrumentation and attention to details. Cetacean reveal the ability to keep their music quite fresh blending well peaceful melodies (driven also by some saxophone parts) with heavy riffs to bring a more atmospheric and sloweddown approach to their pounding black metal roots. Showcasing these beautiful harmonies, Cetacean succeed to bring extra amount of substantial emotion to their music. Overall, Breach | Submerge is a very strong proggy debut from a band that already showed a high level of musicianship in terms of timing, execution, and song structures. I'm very excited to see where this young band goes next. This release is highly recomended for fans of Enslaved, Intronaut and Mouth of the Architect.
