The switch II

Editorial Did you ever have that feeling of being lost in the thoughts with desperate need for clarification of the world around you? And that deep wish that everything can be clarified with snap of the fingers? That little mind switch. Imagine your life at this very moment, if you are average human being at the teen age you are going to school, trying to discover who you are and find your place beneath the sun. If you are below average, you are probably just trying to fulfill what is asked from you without specific ambition or goal you are aiming to. Now, if you are above the average, you are trying to discover the world in your specific special way trying to explore what is out there for you. By applying to this conference you showed your ambition, you showed interest in something that average teenager didn’t and you are giving yourself a chance to grow. That is what I like to call special, desire of aiming forward and potential that you can never reach because it is growing by seconds in the speed of the light, but without giving up, with looking backwards only to see how far you have come. Dear all, this is what we, as media team will try to do in these 4 days, we will try to show you what is it that this organization can offer you. We will try to overcome the barrier of average and present you our EYP world in the best light, as we see it. And if you bring home from the session even a part of the idea what EYP is to us and what it can be for you, our job will be successfully completed. With love, Milica Simeunovic, Editor of the session

Introducing the dress code Dress codes are often written, and more often unwritten rules. Outfits have a social significance, with different rules and expectations being valid depending on circumstances and occasions. Casual, Smart-Casual, Formal,... They are always stated in the Information booklets, but how should we, in the EYP, interpret these vague terms and put them into practice at EYP sessions? Some people think the dress codes are not very important, as long as you are dressed decently. They think Casual can be anything, as long as it covers enough skin. Smart should be a comfortable outfit appropriate for working. And a pair of jeans can be formal as well, as the dress codes are only there to make you feel important. However, there are other EYPers that see the dress codes very clearly. Casual is what you would wear on a normal day to school. Smart is more the business style of clothing, which means no jeans or sneakers, but a nice shirt and an elegant pair of trousers for man and a blouse and skirt or a dress for women. And finally, formal would be a formal dress for women, which would be not too fancy, so no glitters. For men that would mean a suit and tie, certainly no jeans, no tracksuits and no trainers. Of course, women can wear a suit as well. And last but not least, don’t forget about some classy shoes.

around. At Eurovillage, you can either wear the traditional clothes from the region you represent, or go casual. While sleeping, some pyjamas are recommended. Before going to committee work, there is the opening ceremony, which asks for a formal outfit. Smart is how you dress during committee work. Some committees sit down on chairs (the furniture, not the persons ) while others committees sit on the ground, and some people even prefer to stand up from time to time this means that you should wear something a bit comfortable. However, as it is a more official part of the session, you should be somewhere close to formal as well. And finally, at the general assembly, everyone is expected to be dressed formal. Sandra Elpers

Now we know how we should dress when a certain dress code is given, this information raises a next question: when do we need to be dressed in what way? It is very easy, it goes from casual in an almost straight line to formal. During teambuilding, you are expected to be dressed casual. Casual is in this case also comfortable, as you already noticed, you have to be able to be both active and able to move

Why do we try? Why do we try so hard on a EYP session? Why do we spend so much time preparing ourselves for the General Assembly? Why do we want to be the most active delegate? Why should we write attack speeches and contribute in open debate? The answer for all these questions is really simple: one of the reasons is - FOR THE International Sessions. You are probably asking yourself what is so special about them? Here you go:

PEOPLE – On every IS, or actually any EYP session, you can meet hundreds of amazing people from all around the world. All of them can inspire you, teach you something or just make you laugh. These kind of friendships are for life. In no time you’ll notice that whenever you travel to any country you’ve got at least one person to call and hung out with. It also gives you the opportunity to listen to politicians or other well-known people. For example, in Tampere 2015 the delegates were delighted to listen to two exprime ministers of Finland, and Petri Vilen who is the creator of Slusch conference. TRAVEL – EYP sessions are the best way to travel around the world. You can discover various cultures, try local food on euro village, explore beautiful places. How often are you able to say that you were eating and drinking (non-alcoholic beverages of course) in the BMW Welt? Yeah, I thought so. To make you even more jealous I‘ll add that there was an falling wall which uncovered the jury members and the auditorium. Pretty impressive, right? While an NSC (National Selection Conference) is usually just 4 dayslong, atan International Session you’ve got 10 days! It allows you to have some free time take some sightseeing trips.

EXPERIENCE – at IS you are surrounded by the best chairs who have tons of experience. They will surely make you improve on different levels. Afterwards you can receive valuable feedback, a certificate and a recommendation that will open new doors for you. ACADEMIC PART – You will be debating about current and serious issues. All topic are carefully selected and the knowledge is on a highly impressive level. You will definitely border your horizons and become an active member of EU. It’s also getting real. If you ever wonder: for what do we work so hard on the resolutions? These one which you create will actually get to EU! Your vote on passing resolutions will be noticed! FUN – the session is not only about academic stuff. Whenever you ask anybody how the IS was, they’ll share an uncountable number of amazing stories. You’ll never forget an experience like that, I’m sure of it. Party in the ZOO? It sound amazing but unreal. In EYP everything is possible, even this.
