Radical Islam “Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Hezbollah Celebrate Boston Terror Attack,” Israel News Agency, April 15
JERUSALEM — Shortly after terror bombs exploded and murdered three people at the Boston Marathon, members of Hamas, Islamic Jihad and Hezbollah were reported to be dancing in the streets of Gaza, handing out candies to passerbys. A number of Palestinians had danced in the street in celebration of the 9/11 attacks in 2001 on the World Trade Center & Washington resulting in the deaths of thousands of Americans.

Containment & Radical Islam set of radical Islam we need to understand that they are still hopping mad about the massacre at Karbala several hundred years ago. Meanwhile, many Americans seem to be more concerned with who is winning Dancing with the Stars. Over 50 percent of Americans still believe Iraq attacked us on 9/11. Until we understand the world around us, until we understand at least a modicum of what animates our enemies, we cannot defend ourselves and we cannot contain our enemies. I think all of us have the duty to ask where are the Kennans of our generation? When foreign policy has become so monolithic, so lacking in debate that Republicans and Democrats routinely pass foreign policy statements without debate and without votes, where are the calls for moderation, the calls for restraint? Anyone who questions the bipartisan consensus is immediately castigated, rebuked and their patriotism challenged. The most pressing question of the day, Iran developing nuclear weapons is allowed to have less debate in this country than it receives in Israel. The following is text of a speech delivered by Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) at the Heritage Foundation on Feb. 6, 2013.
ISLAM
Cont’d. from Page 3 The head of an Islamic terror organization in Jordan — the Muslim Salafi group says he’s “happy to see the horror in America” after the bombing attacks in Boston. “American blood isn’t more precious than Muslim blood,” said Mohammad al-Chalabi, who was convicted in an al-Qaeda-linked plot to attack US and other Western diplomatic missions in Jordan in 2003. “Let the Americans feel the pain we endured by their armies occupying Iraq and Afghanistan and killing our people there,” he said today. A Mideast counterterrorism official based in Jordan said the blasts “carry the hallmark of an organized terrorist group, like al-Qaeda.”... Foreign policy is uniquely an arena where we should base decisions on the landscape of the world as it is . . . not as we wish it to be. I see the world as it is. I am a realist, not a neoconservative, nor an isolationist. When candidate John McCain argued in 2007 that we should remain in Iraq for 100 years, I blanched and wondered what the unintended consequences of prolonged occupation would be. But McCain’s call for a hundred year occupation does capture some truth: that the West is in for a long, irregular confrontation not with terrorism, which is simply a tactic, but with Radical Islam. As many are quick to note, the war
is not with Islam but with a radical element of Islam — the problem is that this element is no small minority but a vibrant, often mainstream, vocal and numerous minority. Whole countries, such as Saudi Arabia, adhere to at least certain radical concepts such as the death penalty for blasphemy, conversion, or apostasy. A survey in Britain after the subway bombings showed 20% of the Muslim population in Britain approved of the violence. Some libertarians argue that western occupation fans the flames of radical Islam – I agree. But I don’t agree that absent western occupation that radical Islam “goes quietly into that good night.” I don’t agree with FDR’s VP Henry Wallace that the Soviets (or Radical Islam in today’s case) can be discouraged by “the glad hand and the winning smile.” Americans need to understand that Islam has a long and perseverant memory. As Bernard Lewis writes, “despite an immense investment in the teaching and writing of history, the general level of historical knowledge in American society is abysmally low. The Muslim peoples, like everyone else in the world, are shaped by their history, but unlike some others, they are keenly aware of it.” Radical Islam is no fleeting fad but a relentless force. Though at times stateless, radical Islam is also supported by radicalized nations such as Iran. Though often militarily weak, radical Islam makes up for its lack of conventional armies with unlimited zeal. For Americans to grasp the mind-

PEACE The Vision of Islam
By Mumtaz Mirza
M
any people have heard that Islam, as a religion, means peace, but very few people have seen a parallel depiction in mainstream media — from TV to movies, newspapers to textbooks, etc. — but what does Islam really mean? What does Islam really teach? Is there a clear definition about the principals and concepts behind this religion? Or have we been presented the truth by the media that seems to govern our very ways of thinking? Islam comes from the root Arabic word, salam, which means “peace.” It is also derived from the Arabic word slim, which means submission (to God). However, if we were looking for a textbook definition of Islam, it would be: “The peace acquired by submitting your will to God.” The dictionary today essentially defines “religion” as a set of practices backed by a set of beliefs — or just a belief in a supernatural being. It is important to distinguish between what society has today understood about what a “religion” is, and what Islam really is.
Islam does have a set of beliefs, which are backed by a set of practices, along with a belief in a supernatural being. However, Islam is much more than that. Islam is a way of life. It dictates how a human being’s life should be led, and the one who follows this way of life or adheres to it from his/her heart, is known as a Muslim. A Muslim, by definition, is “one who has submitted his will to God.” Thus, Islam regulates a comprehensive system of living from the most minute details of eating, drinking and sleeping, to the most complex system of governmental and political law making — all of which the Muslims call, in Arabic, the Shari’ah. The purpose of Islam is clear: to spread peace within humanity. Suppose someone creates a machine. Who will write the instruction manual for that? Naturally, the creator of that machine will. Similarly, in Islam, Muslims believe that the one who will dictate how our lives should be lived will be our creator. The instruction manual is the Glorious Qur’an — the holy book of the

Building healthy family routines that last By Ben Wilson As the weather warms up, many of you are already forming strategies to tackle the challenges to your normal routine that summer brings. Perhaps you are excitedly anticipating new adventures, trips, and activities, or maybe you are plotting out cool crafts and fun backyard games to do at home. Whatever your plans for the coming months, I want to encourage you to use the long days of summer to adjust your routines in ways that will benefit family members all year long. Below are my top four routines to cultivate during the summer months. Pick a favorite and try it out.
nicating as a family. If your family has a beloved tradition that was lost due to the busy schedules of the school year, summer is the perfect time to revive it. If your family doesn’t have any traditions yet then family meals and game nights are a great way to start creating one.
Take care of yourself.
Encourage kids to write about their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Many military children experience a variety of unique transitions, challenges, relationships, triumphs, and cultural experiences they would like to remember and share. Documenting their stories can help children more effectively form and communicate their feelings and thoughts. Journaling is also a great way to keep reading and writing skills sharp during the summer months. For some children, a summer journal will evolve into a lifelong self-care tool.
Summer is a great time to establish self-care routines, as there is often more flexibility to the family schedule. Exercise, reading, time with friends, and hobbies are great activities for maintaining peace of mind. Identify activities and relationships that would boost your morale and then plan to increase them in your life. Set goals for yourself that are realistic and learn to acknowledge even the slightest amount of progress. If ten minutes a week is all you can manage, celebrate it and strategize to increase that time during the coming weeks. Talk with your family about your selfcare needs and ask them for ideas to help your goals become reality. Your kids will see and appreciate the difference it makes in your life.
Create or renew family traditions.
A flexible family schedule during summer also provides a great opportunity to start or renew a family tradition. Family traditions are a great way to stay active, connected, and commuHEALTH

First, tighten foot muscles for 5 seconds. Then relax. Next, tighten the same muscles with greater intensity for another 5 seconds. Then try to relax them more than you did the first time. Journal.
Practice Relaxing.
Regular practice ensures that useful skills will be ready and effective when they are most needed. Summer is a particularly good time for skill practice because kids have fewer demands on their time and attention. Giving children specific feedback and praise is also a great way to encourage them to practice and use relaxation skills. Teach and practice the following relaxation skills during your family meetings, and/or bedtime and wake-up routines and your kids will return to school with some great tools to help them stay calm and relaxed.
Deep Breathing.
Progressive Muscle Relaxation.
Draw air in slowly in through the nose and out through the mouth. Inflate the belly, not the chest. With younger kids, it may help to hold up a finger and encourage them to “smell a flower” and “blow a bubble.” Repeat as many times as it takes to achieve desired relaxation.
Picture yourself in your “Happy Place.” This may be a favorite environment, a recent vacation destination, or a place made up in your own imagination.

4 colorful foods to protect your vision
Over 30 Years experience
1. Carrots: Can’t Get Better than BetaCarotene!
Carrots are famous for their ability to brighten eyesight. The characteristic orange coloring of carrots comes from its high content of betacarotene, which is metabolized into Vitamin A, the substance in carrots that helps improve vision, especially night vision. Keep in mind that less than 5% of the beta-carotene in raw carrots is released during digestion; you can improve the release to almost half by pulping, cooking, and adding cooking oil. Find out more about betacarotene in The Natural Health Dictionary.
2. Sweet Potatoes: Orange Antioxidants
Ever wonder why sweet potatoes— or all orange foods, for that matter— are the color they are? It is the carotenoid compounds found in orange fruits and veggies that are responsible for their sunset pigments. Thanks to these carotenoid antioxidants, we can brush free radicals away, improving eyesight and bolstering the immune system. So, go ahead, enjoy some baked sweet potatoes or creamy, roasted butternut squash!
3. Spotlight on Spinach: The Lutein Connection
To nourish your eyes, follow Popeye’s lead! Spinach—and many other green foods—are full of lutein and zeaxanthin, antioxidants that protect your retina from the macular degeneration that comes with age. Lutein has also been found to help reduce risk of cataracts and age-related macular degeneration. The darker the color, the better the lutein con-
tent. Don’t forget: fat increases lutein absorption, so remember to drizzle a little olive oil on your spinach and other greens after you sauté them. Other lutein and zeaxanthin vegetables include kale, turnip greens, collards, mustard greens, squash, green peas, and broccoli. Try this Vision Tea! Boil 4 ounces of fresh spinach in 4 cups of water. Drink this spinach tea daily to give vital nourishment to your eyes.
4. Algae: Get All the Green Benefits
There’s other greens in the sea! Algae-related super foods like spirulina, chlorella, and blue-green algae possess nutrients that are beneficial for the eyes. Like most green-hued plants, these algaes contain chlorophyll. Chlorophyll resembles the structure of the iron-containing hemoglobin in the human body and increases blood cell production, improves oxygenation, detoxification, and circulation, all of which keeps you in overall good health and also helps protect your vision. You don’t need to go scuba diving to find these aquatic delights, because they are available in supplement form, often as a powder, which you can add to water, juice, or green tea. Children shouldn’t take more than one gram, while pregnant and nursing women should speak to their physician before taking any supplement. As a supplement, chlorophyll can be found online and in health food stores. Learn more about about chlorophyll in the Natural Health Dictionary.

Avoid dining out diet disasters
By Jessamyn Patterson
Going out to eat is definitely a pleasure. As a mom of 4, even with as much as I love to cook, I rejoice in the idea of someone else prepping, cooking and cleaning. To some, going out to eat is the opportunity to binge, devour delicious treats. But what is the cost? Place your order first
We tend to mirror what others are ordering. Even if you go with the intention of ordering healthy, as soon as the others in your group place their orders, that goes out the window. Opt to order first and you might even set the tone for the table to order healthier options as well.
Review the menu
Look for all the red flag options on the menu. Items that are described as creamy, crispy, fried, breaded, or smothered, etc… give you that hint. Go with grilled, steamed, or broiled.
Pick something that’s loaded with vegetables. Fried is not your friend. If you have a chance, check out the menu online ahead of time.
Never fear menu editing
Don’t be afraid to ask your server to make changes, no your food won’t be spit in. How something is prepared, and what actually goes into that meal. Don’t assume that because you order fish and vegetables that what you will be receiving is a healthy meal. Always opt to replace unhealthy sides with steamed veggies, or sliced tomatoes. All sauce should come on the side.

Example, last date night: I was surely not going to ruin my ability to fit into that little black dress with loaded mashed potatoes. I ordered the Woodfire Bourbon Salmon – “Our salmon is brushed with an amazing sweet, tangy glaze. Quinoa kale pilaf and seasonal vegetables on the side.” This meal is a whopping 833 calories, 43 g of fat 1800mg of sodium. I was craving Salmon though. I ordered the salmon, requesting to be wood fire grilled with no glaze. I swapped my quinoa for mixed green salad with pecans, no dressing. I was able to get a custom serving of steamed plain broccoli and sliced tomatoes. Needless to say I was happy, and so was our server after his tip and my raving review to his manager!
Box it up
A restaurant serving can usually feed two, feel free to ask your server for a to-go box at the beginning of the meal and box up half of the portion to take home with you.
Soup and salad
Choose a broth-based soup and salad as your main course. WARNING: The word salad, does not equate healthy. Chain restaurant salads can add up to 1500+ calories for ONE dinner salad. STORAGE
Portion control
Staying under 2000 calories a day can be easy when you are at home, out to eat? Not so much. When ordering stick to eating your main portion about the size of your fist.
Surviving a buffet
I get it. They are easy, convenient, cheap, and kid friendly. Knock out a huge plate of salad. Then make your decision, choose the healthiest entrées available, or head straight to the dessert table. Don’t over-eat if you know you are going to have a dessert. Why not compromise with a healthy filling salad then the dessert of your choice?
Take your time
You aren’t in a rush, I take that back, you aren’t in a rush if you don’t have a toddler with you. There is a 20 minute delay in the communication of “I’m full” from your stomach to your brain. Slow down, enjoy your company, take paused moments and relax.
Drinks all around
By all means have that glass of wine, but stick to one glass and pair it with a few glasses of water. Cut the sweet drinks. Water will help fill you up thereby cutting calories and how much alcohol you consume. Just have fun, enjoy yourself and know that this is about YOU, not anyone else. A healthy trend starts with your choices. For more information, visit www. teambeachbody.com/jessamynleesha, www.facebook.com/coachjessamyn or email Jessamynleesha@yahoo.com.
Q: Why do people clink their glasses before drinking a toast?
A: It used to be common for someone to try to kill an enemy by offering him a poisoned drink. To prove to a guest that a drink was safe, it became customary for a guest to pour a small amount of his drink into the glass of the host. Both men would drink it simultaneously. When a guest trusted his host, he would only touch or clink the host’s glass with his own.

Are you being taken for granted?
Do you or your spouse feel UNAPPRECIATED? Maybe I can help. Let me begin to deal with APPRECIATION in marriage by explaining a basic human dynamic. What gets your attention? Think about it. Do you notice the beat of your heart, the comfort of a hot shower, or the milk in the refrigerator? My guess is that these things (and a million other things that are commonplace in your life) do NOT get your attention. And if they don’t get your attention, then they don’t get your appreciation. When was the last time you said to yourself, “Thank God my heart is beating.” After your last hot shower, did you jot a note of thanks to your local power company? I didn’t. Did you thank the breadwinner in your family last time you poured milk in your cereal? Not likely, right? Why aren’t we appreciative for the things that are so essential in our life? Without them we would be miserable. But as long as we have them, we don’t even notice. Imagine this: It’s 1945. You’ve been in a concentration camp in Auschwitz for 6 years. During that time, you never had a hot shower, a meal that didn’t end with you feeling hungry, or a week when your life didn’t hang in the balance. Then one day the Russians and the Americans come marching in and
you’re liberated. Can you imagine your first hot shower? What would you be thinking? What would you say to the person who served you your first home cooked meal? Do you think they’d feel appreciated? Would you find ways to express your thanks? I don’t think there’s any doubt that you’d feel enormous GRATITUDE and that your hosts would feel deeply appreciated. What stirs gratitude within us? It’s when we’re the recipient of UNUSUAL kindness. When I say “unusual,” I don’t mean extraordinary; I mean not-usual, uncommon, or infrequent. But when events become the norm our gratitude slumbers. Human nature is such that there is an INVERSE relationship between frequency and appreciation. The more you get it (whatever “it” is), the more you expect it, and the less likely you are to appreciate it. And it makes no difference how crucial “it” is. The beat of your heart is a perfect example. There is nothing more crucial in your life. But there’s also nothing more frequent. And probably nothing you take more for granted. This explains why it’s so common for spouses to take each other for granted. As the frequency with which
JEWELRY
we do things for each other increases (as the years go by), the experience (and the expression) of gratitude decreases. It gets to the point where people peripheral to the marriage feel more valued than husbands and wives feel toward each other. Husbands and wives do more for each other than anyone else in their lives, but THAT’S THE PROBLEM! A man’s wife, for example, has rubbed his neck, kept a stock of his favorite cigars, and planned their anniversary celebration every year for 23 years. But he feels and expresses more gratitude when his new secretary brings him a gift from her trip to Mexico. A woman’s husband has cut the lawn, paid the bills, and taken her away on her birthday every year for 23 years. But she felt and expressed more gratitude when Uncle Billy fixed the kitchen sink. There’s an irony to this dynamic. We’re so appreciative when someone does something for us ONCE, right? So whatever it was that warranted our gratitude once, shouldn’t it warrant more gratitude the SECOND time? I mean if it was so wonderful early in your relationship when your spouse made a home-cooked meal, then
wouldn’t it be MORE wonderful the second time, and the third, and the fourth? But it doesn’t work that way, does it? It’s logical; but it’s not psychological. The psychology of it is that it becomes LESS wonderful in your eyes. There’s no easy way to fill your marriage with appreciation. It will NEVER come naturally. You have to make it a conscious discipline. For more info, get the free report 7 Secrets for Fixing Your Marriage at www.MarriageFitness.com. Mort Fertel is a world authority on the psychology of relationships and has an international reputation for saving marriages. In addition to working with couples, he teaches individuals how to single-handedly transform their marital situation.
Q: Why do ships and aircraft use “mayday” as their call for help?
A: This comes from the French word m’aidez- meaning ‘help me’ — and is pronounced, approximately, ‘mayday.’

BLASTING THE BAD GUYS!
Navy’s new laser weapon takes out the bad guys from air, sea
By Luis Maertinez, ABC News No longer the fantasy weapon of tomorrow, the U.S. Navy is set to field a powerful laser that can protect its ships by blasting targets with highintensity light beams. Early next year the Navy will place a laser weapon aboard a ship in the Persian Gulf where it could be used to fend off approaching unmanned aerial vehicles or speedboats. The Navy calls its futuristic weapon LAWS, which stands for the Laser Weapon System. What looks like a small telescope is actually a weapon that can track a moving target and fire a steady laser beam strong enough to burn a hole through steel. A Navy video of testing conducted last summer off the coast of California shows how a laser beam fired from a Navy destroyer was able to set aflame an approaching UAV or drone, sending it crashing into the ocean. “There was not a single miss” during the testing, said Rear Admiral
Matthew Klunder, chief of Naval Research. The laser was three for three in bringing down an approaching unmanned aerial vehicle and 12 for 12 when previous tests are factored in. But don’t expect in that video to see the firing of colored laser bursts that Hollywood has used for its futuristic laser guns. The Navy’s laser ray is not visible to the Laser Weapon System (LaWS) naked eye because it is in the installed aboard the USS Dewey. infrared spectrum. It’s doors have been open since 1957, when it had only 10 planes. Now it’s collection includes 150 planes with 50 of them being flyable. Many of the planes at the Museum are the last of their kind. Every year, the Museum pulls out most of their flyable aircraft and along with other warbirds from other museums, brings them together for one of the best air shows in the country. Corps spouses mentoring each other
Once again Camp Pendleton has a unique and hidden gem within the midst of gritty hardened Marines, helicopter trainings and mortar bombings; however this isn’t necessarily about the service members. Marine Corps spouses never cease to amaze me and this is one of those organizations that do just that. Are you looking to get involved, been involved but want to enhance your skills or network amongst other area Marine Corps spouses? At Blinder Memorial Chapel on the base, twice a year, you’ll find a team of all-volunteer military spouses who organize the Leadership Education Seminar (LES). This seminar invites commands to nominate exceptional military spouses from within the SPOUSES, cont’d. on Page 23

VA hotline for women vets The Department of Veterans Affairs has launched a new hotline — 1-855-VA-WOMEN — to receive and respond to questions from veterans, their families and caregivers about the many VA services and resources available to women Veterans. “Some women Veterans may not know about high-quality VA care and services available to them,” said Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Shinseki. “The hotline will allow us to field their questions and provide critical information about the latest enhancements in VA services.” The hotline is staffed by knowledgeable VA employees who can provide information about benefits including health care services for women. Callers can be linked to information on claims, education or health care appointments as well as information about VA cemeteries and memorial benefits. Staff can answer urgent
questions and provide referrals to homeless and mental health services as well as provide Vet Center information. Women make up nearly 15 percent of today’s active duty military and 18 percent of National Guard and Reserve forces. The population of women veterans using VA benefits including health care is growing rapidly. Since 2000, the number of women using VA health care more than doubled, from nearly 160,000 in 2000 to more than 354,000 in 2012. Based on the upward trend of women in all branches of service, the number of women veterans—and female VA users—will keep climbing. “Many women who served don’t self-identify as Veterans and therefore don’t think they qualify for VA bene-
fits. We need to correct existing misinformation and misperceptions so we can serve more women Veterans with the benefits they’ve earned.” Women Veterans are entitled to apply for the same benefits as their male counterparts, which include health care and pharmacy benefits as well as education benefits, disability compensation, home loans, employment assistance and more. The hotline (1-855-VA-WOMEN) joins numerous other VA hotlines that provide critical information and assistance to veterans, such as those for veterans in crisis and in danger of becoming homeless. Veterans can also receive information and apply for benefits online at VA’s www.eBenefits. va.gov and manage their health care at MyHealtheVet.va.gov.
Iwo Jima vet dies
This Feb. 23, 1945 file photo shows U.S. Marines of the 28th Regiment, 5th Division, raising the American flag atop Mt. Suribachi in Iwo Jima, Japan. Alan Wood, a World War II veteran who provided the flag in the famous flag-raising on Iwo Jima has died. Alan Wood was 90. Wood was in charge of communications on a landing ship on Iwo Jima’s shores when a Marine asked him for the biggest flag that he could find. Wood handed him a flag he had found in Pearl Harbor.

Defense officials have a 10-year plan to boost co-payments on military family members and retirees who use TRICARE retail and mail order pharmacies. For example, the current $17 co-pay collected at retail outlets for 30-day prescriptions of brand name drugs found on the military formulary would increase to $26 on Oct. 1. The retail co-pay then would be increased by $2 every October through 2017 and possibly for five years longer because budget document refers to a 10-year phase-in plan.
Troops to Teachers
Placing veterans in the nation’s classrooms to serve again is the goal for the Troops to Teachers program. The purpose of the Department of Defense program is to help eligible current and former military personnel begin new careers as teachers in public schools where their skills, knowledge and experience are most needed. In addition to counseling and referral, state Troops to Teachers representatives help applicants identify teacher certification requirements for the state they wish to teach, programs leading to certification and employment opportunities in their state. Other state representatives will reach out to servicemembers earlier while they are still on active-duty and identify education requirements so that interested servicemembers may begin working toward their teaching certifications before leaving the service, enabling a smoother transition into teaching. Servicemembers can learn more about Troops to Teachers and locate a state representative at www. proudtoserveagain.com.

Pain catches up to this Super Bowl-winning QB Ten years ago Brad Johnson led the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a Super Bowl title. Now the 44-year-old has trouble walking down the stairs at his home in Athens, Ga. "I go down one step at a time with two feet. One step. One step. One step," Johnson told USA Today's Robert Klemko. "My 73-year-old dad was visiting and I told my son to help him get his suitcases up the steps. He walks slow and he's got a bad knee. He starts walking and my son turns to me and he says, 'Dad, he walks just like you.' I never thought it would be like this." At one point, Johnson was known as one of the toughest quarterbacks in the NFL. He started 125 games during his career, throwing for at least 3,000 yards in five different seasons. Former Tampa Bay offensive lineman Roman Oben blocked for Drew Brees, Philip Rivers and several other quarterbacks, but he says Johnson was his favorite. "This is a tough guy who could step into the huddle and you knew things were going to work out," Omen told Klemko.
The injuries Johnson suffered throughout his 15-year career read like a laundry list of pain. While with the Minnesota Vikings in 1997, Johnson felt his neck stiffen up. It got so bad that he had trouble driving and couldn't palm a football. As it turned out, he would need surgery to correct nerve damage in his spine between the C4 and C5 vertebrae. Then, within a span of four years Johnson broke his right ankle, had surgery to correct microfractures in his left knee, and cracked the transverse processes in his vertebra. Johnson's pain became so bad that in 2002 he joined many of his teammates in taking injections of the controversial painkiller Toradol before games. While Toradol helps relieve aches, some players allege that it is so strong that it makes it difficult for them to judge the significance of injuries.

"Deacon Jones said you have to give your body to the game," Johnson said. "You look at him and his fingers are crooked. His eyes are probably crooked, too. But he's right -- you have to give your body." Johnson wasn't sure what he would do after retiring from the NFL in 2008, but he has enjoyed coaching youth football and basketball players. Johnson and his wife, Nikki, have two sons, who are 10 and 12. And while the game hobbled Johnson, Nikki knows she can't stop her sons from playing football. "I would never want to discourage them from doing something they would love," she said. "You want your child to follow their dreams and you want to give them as much wisdom as you can about it, and make their own decisions." Johnson has earned disability payments from the NFL, but like many former players (including ex-Packers quarterback Don Majkowski), he is still seeking worker's compensation from the league.

Chargers draft Te’o
By Timothy Rapp The wait is over—one of the most scrutinized players in the 2013 NFL draft, Notre Dame’s Manti Te’o, has been selected by the San Diego Chargers with the 38th overall pick (via a trade up with the Arizona Cardinals). Chargers take Te’o. Cardinals pick up a 4th rounder. Down 7 spots for a pick. good trade? Depends on who they get at 45 Te’o was brilliant for Notre Dame in 2012, finishing the season with 111 tackles, seven interceptions, two fumble recoveries, 1.5 sacks and four passes defensed. He helped lead Notre Dame to a 12-1 record and a trip to the national championship game as one of the team’s captains and its emotional leader. He was a unanimous All-American and won the Lott Trophy, Nagurski Trophy, Butkus Award, Lombardi Award, Bednarik Award, Maxwell Award and Walter Camp Player of the Year and was runner-up for the Heisman Trophy. However, Te’o’s draft stock took a hit after he was dominated by the Alabama offensive line in the Crimson Tide’s 42-14 victory in the BCS National Championship Game, and questions about his athleticism would plague RELATIONSHIPS
him after a poor showing at the NFL Scouting Combine. In addition, the revelation that his deceased “girlfriend,” Lennay Kekua, was never even a real person, but rather an Internet fabrication at the center of a cruel hoax perpetrated against Te’o, put the linebacker in the news for all the wrong reasons after the season. Te’o publicly addressed his victimization in the hoax and lived up to expectations at Notre Dame’s pro day, running a 4.71 40-yard dash. By the time the draft rolled around, most
people felt he would be selected in the second half of the first round. The pre-draft scrutiny will follow Te’o into his professional career, as he will need to prove his game will trans-
late to the NFL after a successful stint at Notre Dame. For now, however, Te’o is surely just enjoying the fact that his name was called and he is now on an NFL team.

Hard-headed duck
A duck walks into a feed store and asks, “Got any duck feed?” The clerk tells him, “No, we don’t have a market for it. We don’t carry it.” The duck says, “Okay,” and leaves. The next day, the duck again walks in to the feed store and asks, “Got any duck feed?” Again the clerk says no and the duck leaves. Next day, the duck once again walks in, and asks, “Got any duck feed?” The clerk says, “I’ve told you twice, we don’t have duck feed, we’ve never had duck feed and we never will have duck feed. If you ask me again, I’ll nail your feet to the floor.” The duck leaves. The next day, the duck walks in and asks, “Got any nails?” “No.” “Got any duck feed?”

Marketing genius
A guy walks into a post office one day to see a middle-aged, balding man standing at the counter methodically placing “Love” stamps on bright pink envelopes with hearts all over them. He then takes out a perfume bottle and starts spraying scent all over them. His curiosity getting the better of him, he goes up to the balding man and asks him what he is doing. The man says “I’m sending out 1,000 Valentine cards signed, ‘Guess who?’” “But why?” asks the man. “I’m a divorce lawyer,” the man replies.
Potentially a reality
A kid comes home from school with a writing assignment. He asks his father for help. “Dad, can you tell me the difference between potential and reality?” His father looks up, thoughtfully, and says, “I’ll demonstrate it for you. Go ask your mother if she would sleep with Robert Redford for a million dollars. Then go ask your sister if she would sleep with Brad Pitt for a million dollars. Then come back and tell me what you’ve learned.” The kid is puzzled, but he decides

Spelling dilemma
Emily Sue passed away and Bubba called 911. The 911 operator told Bubba that she would send someone out right away. “Where do you live?” asked the operator. Bubba replied, “At the end of Eucalyptus Drive.” The operator asked, “Can you spell that for me?” There was a long pause and finally Bubba said, “How ‘bout if I drag her over to Oak Street and you pick her up there?”

the vision of Islam is to spread peace, tolerance and brotherhood in humanity, not hatred and intolerance. Thus, it’s time we ignore the poor representation of Islam by not only the poorlypracticing “Muslims,” but also by the mainstream media, and separate the truth from falsehood. Mumtaz Mirza is currently enrolled in the Masters program in the faculty of landscape architecture at the U of M. He has spent the last five years studying Islam and comparative religion on his own time with a hope to clarify Islamic viewpoints.
Muslims — which was revealed to the last and final prophet Muhammad, after whose name Muslims say “peace be upon him.” The Qur’an is not a book for the Arabs or the Muslims only but, as Muslims believe, the book (or instruction manual) has been revealed to instruct all of humanity. This is further reiterated by what the Muslims call in Arabic “the sunnah,” which means the sayings and practices of the “Prophet Muhammad” (peace be upon him). Islam has received poor publicity from many mainstream sources — associating it with terrorism, lack of HELP WANTED women rights and barbaric practices. However, very few of these mainstream sources have verified their propagation before their presentation or depiction. Islam’s aim is not to spread hatred among people, but rather peace in humanity. We cannot judge a car by its driver, and therefore we cannot judge Islam by what very few Muslims are doing. There are black sheep in every community. To smear a religion’s values and principals based on the actions of these black sheep is illogical and unethical. Islam speaks clearly about the issues that are presented very boldly in the media. As written in the Qur’an, “If any human being [Muslim or nonMuslim], kills another human being [Muslim or non-Muslim . . . ] it is as if he has killed all of humanity; and if any human being [Muslim or nonMuslim], saves another human being [Muslim or non-Muslim], it is as if he has saved all of humanity.” Islam believes in universal brotherhood — not only among Muslims, but among non-Muslims as well. As the Qur’an states, “We have created you from a single pair of male and female, Riverside County Sheriff’s Department and divided you among nations and is actively recruiting for Deputy Sheriff tribes — so that you may recognize one Trainee, Deputy Sheriff (Lateral-Preanother, not that you may despise on Service), Correctional Deputy I, Sheriff’s another.” 911 Communications Officer I, and other This concept of brotherhood for clerical support positions to fill which we yearn so deeply today was vacancies throughout the County! reiterated several times by Prophet We encourage you or someone you know Muhammad over 1,400 years ago, who to apply online at www.JOINRSD.org. said: “If you show mercy to those who are in the Earth, he who is in heaven will show mercy to you.” It’s clear that from the most authentic sources (The Qur’an and the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad) For advertising information, call (858) 537-2280

By John Breeden II GiN Chief Editor www.gameindustry.com If you came here expecting yet another glowing review about how BioShock Infinite is the best game ever created, you won't find it. BioShock Infinite is a very good game. It even ventures into greatness in some areas. But it has a few flaws in the gameplay area that prevent it from getting the "best ever" title. I think the reason reviewers are falling all over it is because most video games these days emphasize gameplay over story. BioShock Infinite turns that notion on its head, putting story and characterization first, so it's more like a work of art, at least much more than almost any other game. But to be fair, reviewing this as a game, one has to be honest about a few shortcomings. Let's start with the story, since that seems to be the biggest selling point of the title. One could also argue that the stunning graphics are the key, and Infinite shines more than most, but every game looks good these days. Not every game has a storyline that could easily

voxophones, which are little records you pick up and play as you travel. At least you can pick them up if you want. Many of them are hidden in out of the way places. There are 80 of them in total. I searched and searched as best I could, and only found 77 in my first play through. But that was more than enough to figure out all of the plot points the game had to offer, even the supposedly shocking ones. On the other end of the spectrum, I have a friend who played the game as a pure shooter. He didn't bother reading or listening to many of the Voxophones, and didn't search for anything. When the end of the game was presented to him, he was totally lost and said that nothing about it made sense, because he had missed probably more than half of the story. Having a story told in an optional fashion is not really the best choice. Whether a person is totally satisfied with the game or not depends largely on how many "collection items" they find, though it does seem that the more important ones are laying out in more or less plain sight. But that is not always the case.
