HI-YO SILVER... AWAY
M
ovie Stars ... Comedians... How bright is bright ... How dumb is dumb ... I just don’t get it! It’s my guess that most of Hollywood’s movie stars and comedians want all the people to like them and love their movies and comedic routines. But it seems that some of the major movie stars and comedians hate our President. From all the polls I’ve looked at, the division in our country is 50% Democrats and 50% Republicans. So why would you bash the President and risk losing 50% of the movie-going and stand-up comedic audiences? If I were a producer or director, I would look elsewhere for an actor or actress to play the leading roles in my next movies. If 50% of the country would stop going to the movies, we would see an immediate change in their vitriolic attacks on our President. When you look at Robert De Niro, Alex Baldwin, Ashley Judd, Bette Midler, Madonna and all of the other foul-mouthed movie stars, you have to stop and wonder why you would ever want to see another one of their movies. Then there are the comedians Kathy Griffin, Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel, John Oliver, Trevor Noah, and D.L. Hughley. They’re supposed to be comedians but they’re all Trump haters who no longer have the ability to entertain. So why would 50% of the country either watch them on television or go to comedy shops?
Robert De Niro dropped a pair of Fbombs when asked about Fox News during a conversation about President Trump in a vulgar CNN appearance. A current CNN on-air personality who spoke on conditions of anonymity, questioned the decision to book De Niro in the first place. It’s particularly puzzling that our show, which allegedly critiques media, we chose a Hollywood celebrity with zero discernible news value, the CNN employees said, what are his credentials, other than deeply hating the President? What did our viewers gain from his vulgarity? De Niro fired Graham Chase Robinson, his former VP of finance at Canal Productions (his company), in a hostile, abusive and intimidating manner according to an explosive new lawsuit. Robinson claims De Niro gave her stereotypical female duties and made sexually charged comments to her and would lash out at her while drunk. In a 2012 voice-

mail, De Niro can be heard shouting at Robinson,
calling her a spoiled brat, saying how dare you f***ing disrespect me, and threatened her with the loss of her job. He might be a great movie star be is not a great person. And what about Ashley Judd’s Womans March diatribe against our President. I don’t think she won many old or new admirers with her vulgar speech... and I quote, “I am nasty like my blood stains on my bed sheets,” Judd said. “We do not actually choose if and when we have our periods. We do not like throwing away our favored pairs of underpants. Why are pads and tampons still taxed when Viagra and Rogaine are not? Is your erection really more important than protecting the parts of my womanhood? Is the blood stains on my jeans more embarrassing than the thinning of your hair?” The bitterness and hatred in her voice showed how ignorant and disgustingly vulgar her speech really was. And what about Madonna threatening to blow up the White House. If you or I or any American citizen said that, we would wind up in prison. What this country really needs to do is get back to showing respect to both congressmen and senators of both parties Democrat and Republican. If it wasn’t for President Trump there
would be no more late night television shows. The ratings are lower now than ever before . Remember we used to be entertained by the movie stars and comedians... the Johnny Carson’s, Jack Parr’s, Jay Leno’s Dick Cavett’s and least but not last Joan Rivers. Those really were the good old days and for those of us who remember... why can’t we “ return... To those thrilling days of yesteryear when we heard the Lone Ranger’s mighty shout “Hi - Yo Silver....Away.“ Richard Matz...Publisher

THE CHARGERS REPORT: DESMOND KING INTERVIEW
Desmond King. A fifthround selection in the 2017 NFL Draft, King is living proof that your dreams can come true if you work hard enough. Entering his third NFL season, the Associated Press named King first-team All-Pro at defensive back and second-team All-Pro at punt returner in 2018. Recently, MP reporter Art Garcia Jr. caught up to King to ask him a few questions.
AG: Your first two years in the NFL were pretty successful. Do you have high expectations for yourself this season? DK: Yeah definitely, coming off a good rookie year and another one last year, I definitely have good expectations to look up to. I’m just trying to get better each and every day so I can get better than the year before. I mean, the only way I move forward is to look up, never look back and never go back and to try and get better every day. AG: What do you think has been the key to your success? DK: I think just working and working every day on my craft — that’s what helps me get better each and every day. So as long as I can do that and stick to it and be consistent I think I’ll be alright. AG: Having a couple of seasons under your belt, do you train or prepare yourself any different over the offseason than when you came in as a rookie? DK: Honestly, it’s not really a big change, you know? Everyday I just keep doing what I’ve been doing so why would I change something if its working? You
know what they say — if it ain’t broke don’t try to fix it. That is something I definitely don’t want to change, so as long as its helping me get better then I’m good. AG: Since your rookie year you have made an impact as a cornerback, a slot corner and as a returner on special teams, has any of your initial goals as rookie changed at all? DK: No not at all, that’s what I’m here for. As long as I can keep doing that (playing good) and staying consistent then I’ll be successful in the
NFL. AG: You have a knack for being a playmaker at every level of football from high school, college and the NFL, do those instincts come natural to you or do you think they can be taught? DK: I think its become second nature to me only because I work at it every day. Its a career, its something that I love to do, granted that I’m out here doing it so why not have fun with it? It’s definitely something I take pride in and hopefully I can keep doing it
for a long time. AG: You had a pretty stellar career at Iowa, were you surprised you weren’t taken until the fifth round and what were expectations on where you would be picked in the draft? DK: Yeah I was surprised. My agent couldn’t really estimate it, he was saying it could be like the second to the fourth round and I was thinking maybe it could be because of my size and speed that made me drop. AG: Do you remember the day of the draft and watching other defensive backs being selected ahead of you? DK: Yeah and it sucked as a whole having your family and friends there and knowing what their expectations were because of the success I had in col-
AG: Did that experience put a chip on your shoulder to get on the field and prove you were better than a fifth round pick? DK: Yeah, you have to do that when you come out here and work at it. Well, I really wouldn’t say its a chip, its more like coming out here as a pro athlete and taking care of it (business). AG: Going back to your ball skills — you said it comes natural to you. Do you think these innate skills can be taught or do you believe it is something that an athlete is just born with? DK: I think you can be able to build that into someone, but at the same time you have to be willing to go out there and do it. As for me, you have to be a coachable athlete and at the same time you have to be willing to teach it as well. So its all about me communicating and taking what I learned from the classroom to the field … that’s what helps me for sure.
The Endzone: Aside from covering teammate Keenan Allen at practice, King said the Patriots’ Julian Edelman is the best and toughest slot receiver he’s had to cover. Reviewing the 2017 NFL Draft, there were 18 cornerbacks selected before the Chargers picked King. He said the key being successful slot cornerback is “being honest, staying consistent and working your technique because it really comes to third downs where you’re targeted most as an inside defensive back, that’s predominately where the go-to receiver is at and most likely be the target.” lege and them thinking I was going to be King prefers playing as an inside corner picked early. It sucked seeing the faces rather than on the outside because he’s of my family but other than that, it’s all out there to work and compete, and he about being granted the opportunity to likes challenging one of the best players play in the NFL and taking it from there. on the field.

SCANDALS George Reeves The night of George Reeves’s death, (Superman) the actor was at home with his fiancée Lenore Lemmon, along with the writer Robert Condon, who had been staying with them. Around one in the morning they were joined by two of the neighbors, at which point Reeves, who had already been in bed, stomped downstairs to yell at his guests. As Reeves returned to his room, Lemmon bizarrely began providing some morbid commentary. “He’s going upstairs to shoot himself,” she explained to the other guests, who then heard a sound from upstairs. “See, he’s opening the drawer to get the gun.” Lemmon claimed. Finally, a single shot rang out. “I told you, he’s shot himself.” When the cops arrived on the scene, Lemmon told them she had been “only kidding” when she made her strange remarks. They found George Reeves upstairs on his bed, with a Luger between his feet and a bullet hole in his head. The police ruled the death a suicide, but by the time Reeves’ obituary was published in the Los Angeles Times, the newspaper already noted there was “an element of mystery.”
Twilight Zone the terrible tragedy that happened on set leaves a bad taste when you watch it The accident occurred on a late night shoot in July 1982. Landis was directing a scene in which veteran actor Vic Morrow’s character was attempting to save two Vietnamese children during the Vietnam war. A major cock up occurred between the pyrotechnics on the ground and a low flying helicopter. The pyrotechnic people sent two explosions very close together and hit the helicopter — forcing it into free fall and landing on Morrow and the two children — instantly killing them by being crushed and decapitated.

Cary Grant and Randolph Scott They were two handsome bachelors, who happened to be Hollywood heartthrobs and roommates. Cary Grant and Randolph Scott lived together off-and-on for nearly 12 years, sharing a Santa Monica beach house and a mansion in Los Angeles’ Los Feliz neighborhood. But were the two living together as a gay couple in plain sight during the oppressive 1930s? Hollywood of that period was run by the infamous ironfisted studio system, which monitored, managed and practically dictated a star’s personal and public life. Leading men like Grant and Scott would almost certainly not have been allowed to openly live homosexual lives, much less as a couple. Yet, rumors persisted about the two and, curiously, they both agreed to a photo spread in a fan magazine, which featured them as “bachelors” sharing a home together. The photos show them happy, laughing, working out, cooking—picture perfect images of domestic bliss, if ever there was. But the two never publicly acknowledged if they were in love or in a relationship. Their mutual friend, Carole Lombard, once jokingly referred to the pair as having the perfect relationship: “Randy pays the bills and Cary mails them.” For advertising information, call (858) 537-2280 • ads@militarypress.com

TRUMP’S DILEMMA - SYRIA AND THE KURDS D
onald Trump’s plan to pull American troops out of Syria is drawing fire from both sides of the aisle in Washington. Senior politicians are calling on the US president to reverse his decision citing their concerns that the pullout will allow Turkey to launch its long planned offensive against Kurdish fighters in the region. Kurdish fighters have been allies in the US in its battle against the self proclaimed Islamic state. What will happen next to the Kurds in northern Syria? All of the parties to the conflict the Americans, Assad’s regime, Russia, Iran, Turkey and the Kurds have their own agendas for the war torn region, but what will the future hold for the Kurds and the territory they want to occupy .
One of Trump’s campaign promises was to pull our troops out of years of un-winnable wars between Islamic nations that have been fighting for hundreds of years. The president said one of his hardest duties is to be with father’s, mothers, grandparents, brothers, sisters and loved ones of our military men and
women that are brought home in caskets. Think about this ... What if you had to be the one that stood with these families as their loved ones were carried off these planes. The other side of this dilemma is what do we do to protect the Kurds from Turkey, Syria and anyone else that wants to annihilate them. If possible, (and not knowing anything about arming the Kurds) we might be able to give them advance weapons to defend themselves or with technology we might be able to just press a button here in the states to eliminate any threats to their freedom.
