POST TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER IN VETERANS
Military suicide is a heartbreak that many of us know all too well. After your spouse has served for a number of years, many of those lost are dear friends. The most difficult feelings those left behind have been, Could I have helped if I had known?, Why didn’t I know?
When you ask a veteran when they were last “over there” know that in many cases, the real answer is “every night.” Living a military lifestyle – long deployments in dangerous countries, being stationed far away from family and friends, frequent moves, and high infidelity and divorce rates can leave many service members and spouses feeling deeply depressed. Many service members who have served on combat deployments know of others who also suffer from PTSD. All too often, they don’t know how to reach out for help and fear being judged or stigmatized. But the consequences of this are sometimes lethal. Statistics show that approximately 22 veterans commit suicide a day, which is an incredibly high number. The number for active duty and reservists is lower, with four service members lost every three days. However, just one life is a deep loss felt by many. Even though both deployment depression and PTSD can cause symptoms of sadness that lead to suicidal thoughts, they are quite different disorders. PTSD

If your loved one agrees that they do think they have depression, have them seek a professional. ”Many service members worry about negative repercussions to their career for seeking help, but not seeking help can lead to greater problems for their career and marriage. “At the end of the day, a life saved is well worth any difficulties faced to get better,” . “Soldiers need to value their life enough to understand that asking for help actually shows signs of courage and strength, rather than weakness.A person can’t expect to run their vehicles without ever getting an oil change, the tires rotated, and replacing worn out belts and hoses. Likewise, a person cannot neglect getting physical “tune-ups” from a physician or mental and emotional “tuneups” from a counselor or therapist. Even if we feel like our lives are going well, we should still seek advice and validation from a professional. “If you absolutely worry about your

CHARGERS REPORT: CHARGERS VS RAIDERS Philip Rivers sat motionless at his locker, never blinking until he was asked to speak to the media. The Chargers’ quarterback was trying to process what went wrong on his team’s final drive Thursday night against the Oakland Raiders. Rivers had no real answers for his latest shortcoming with the game on the line. He’ll never get another opportunity to rally in Oakland. “We had eight snaps and no yards,” Rivers said. “We had zero yards. That sums it up.” Seven incomplete passes, four extra plays, no rushing attempts and three timeouts, all punctuated by an interception, left Rivers sitting in a daze. The Raiders gave the Chargers four more snaps after a defensive holding penalty, but still the offense went nowhere, resulting in a 26-24 defeat at Ring Central Coliseum. Heading in the direction of light sabers, Gorilla costumes and a sea of black jerseys, the Chargers had a part-
ing gift for the Raiders’ famed “Black Hole.” Rivers celebrated, but he did so too early after teaming with Austin Ekeler on a 6-yard, go-ahead touchdown pass with 4:02 to play for a 24-20 lead. The Raiders were the ones who provided the final goodbye after rookie running back Josh Jacobs scored the winning touchdown on an 18-yard run with 1:02 left in the game. With the Raiders moving to Las Vegas next season, the Oakland fans were able to see a frustrated Rivers walk off the field for the last time. “It’s not the way you want to end your time coming here,” Rivers said. “I was disappointed that we didn’t
play better and find a way to win.” Rivers had another chance to answer in front of the Black Hole, but like he’s done many times this season in similar situations, he threw a desperation pass that was intercepted by Raiders safety Karl Joseph with 20 seconds to play. It
was Rivers’ third interception of the night as the Chargers dropped to 4-6 on the season and saw their two-game winning streak snapped. After starting the season with an overtime victory against the Indianapolis Colts, the Chargers’ six losses have all been decided by one score. The stalled final drive in Oakland now joins the other failed last-minute drives against the Detroit Lions, Denver Broncos, Pittsburgh Steelers and Tennessee Titans. Despite the recent shortcomings, the Chargers assumed they would march down the field for the game-winning score. “Go win, that’s it,” Chargers center Scott Quessenberry said. “That’s the only thing that was (going through my mind). I don’t think there was any doubt in any of our minds that we were gonna go win, but we came up a little bit short.” Rivers went 17 of 31 for 207 yards, with two touchdowns and three interceptions. Running back Melvin Gordon rushed for a season-high 108 yards on 22 carries. Gordon outdueled Jacobs, but the rookie got the last word on the game-winning touchdown.

Joan Crawford Joan Crawford Starred In At Least One Adult Movie. Life wasn’t exactly easy for young actresses in old Hollywood. They lacked credibility and reputation and even those extremely talented struggled to make ends meet at the start of their careers. Take Marilyn Monroe, for example.
Before the stunning young woman became an international icon, she was an anonymous starlet who struggled so much she had to pose in the nude to earn some extra cash. Joan Crawford was in a similar boat to Monroe. While today we remember Crawford as one of the greatest female stars of old Hollywood, her life as a young actress was far from glamorous. In fact, it has been alleged that as a teenager, Crawford starred in a few pornographic films, including Velvet Lips,The Casting Couch, and The Plumber, just to make ends meet. Since Crawford was one of MGM’s biggest stars, the studio supposedly employed a fixer to partner with the mob and make the embarrassing story and Hollywood scandal go away. While allegations of Crawford starring in adult films have obviously never been confirmed and the negatives have never been found, the story does seem suspiciously true. Crawford left MGM in 1943 she paid the studio $50,000, possibly for destroying the negatives.
Errol Flynn There isn’t really any Hollywood star now with a reputation like Errol Flynn. He was known as “the most beautiful man who ever lived” and was the inspiration for the phrase “in like Flynn.” He apparently said that he liked his whisky old and his women young. Onscreen, he was best known as a swashbuckling swordsman. In reality he had a reputation for drinking, fighting and sleeping around. But in 1943 he went
on trial accused of having sex with two under-age women, Betty Hansen and Peggy Satterlee. They were both 17 at the time. When he was arrested, he said about Betty Hansen: “I’m bewildered. I can’t understand it. I hardly touched the girl.” His lawyers accused the girls of sleeping with married men and having an illegal abortion. The jury of nine women and three men cleared him. One of his accusers, Peggy Satterlee said: “I knew those women would acquit him. They just sat and looked adoringly at him.” His career never recovered

Lana Turner’s Daughter Killed Turner’s Mafioso Boyfriend. One of the biggest Hollywood scandals of all time was the murder of mobster Johnny Stompanato, who was the boyfriend of Lana Turner. The blonde bombshell Lana Turner, best known for her femme fatale roles in Hollywood, had an extremely stormy love life. Not only was she married eight times and had short flings with Hollywood’s rich and famous such as Rex Harrison, Clark Gable and supposedly even Frank Sinatra, she was also caught up in film noir-esque situation in real life. In 1958, in one of the biggest Hollywood scandals ever, Turner was accused of killing her Mafioso boyfriend Johnny Stompanato, who had ties to Mickey Cohen. He was discovered stabbed to death in Turner’s home. A court hearing followed during which Turner’s 14 year old daughter Cheryl Crane confessed to killing her mother’s boyfriend. She had only killed him, however, because she was protecting her mother. According to Turner, that fateful night she had argued with Stompanato, and he had threatened to cripple her and kill her daughter. The coroner’s jury ruled the death a justifiable homicide. While Turner’s career was unharmed, she could not escape rumors which claimed that she had caught her daughter in bed with Stompanato and, in a jealous rage, killed him. THE RUSSIAN REVOLUTION OF 1917
I
t’s a little known fact that it was the Jews who were behind the Russian Revolution and the mass murder of 66 million Russian Christians between 1917 and 1953. The unspeakable tortures, famines and gulag atrocities that took place during this reign of terror were the handiwork of two men, with their Jewish commissars carrying out their orders: the part-Jew Lenin (18701924) and the Georgian non-Jew Stalin (18781953). The latter, often suspected of being Jewish himself without any compelling evidence, spent his entire political life in the shadow of Big Jewry. He decided to be truthful and entered the door that said “Over 35”. He found himself in another empty hallway, this one with 2 doors that read, “Over 8 inches” and “Under 8 inches”.

Truthful again, he went through the “Under 8 inches” door and found himself in another empty hall, with 2 more doors reading, “Once a night” and “Many times a night”.

Still wanting to be truthful, he entered the door marked “Once a night” and found himself back out on the street.

I hit the golf ball any way I can and laugh if it goes in the lake. That’s the breaks. I’m just happy I can still hit that golf ball. As I’ve aged, I’ve become kinder to myself, and less critical of myself. I’ve become my own friend. I have seen too many dear friends leave this world, too soon; before they understood the great freedom that comes with aging. Whose business is it, if I choose to read, or play on the computer until 4 AM or sleep until noon? I will dance with myself to those wonderful tunes of the 50, 60 & 70’s, and if I, at the same time, wish to weep over a lost love, I will. I will walk the beach, in a swim suit that is stretched over a bulging body, and will dive into the waves, with abandon if I choose to, despite the pitying glances from the jet set. They too, will get old. I know I am sometimes forgetful. But there again, some of life is just as well forgotten. And, I eventually remember the important things. Sure, over the years, my heart has been broken. How can your heart not break, when you lose a loved one, or when a child suffers, or even when somebody’s beloved pet passes? But, broken hearts are what give us strength, and understanding, and compassion. A heart never broken, is pristine, and sterile, and will never know the joy of being imperfect. I am so blessed to have lived long enough to have my hair turning gray, and to have my youthful laughs be forever etched into deep grooves on my face. So many have never laughed, and so many have died before their hair could turn silver. As you get older, it is easier to be positive. You care less about what other people think. I don’t question myself anymore. I’ve even earned the right to be wrong. So, I like being old. It has set me free. I like the person I have become. I am not going to live forever, but while I am still here, I will not waste time lamenting what could have been, or worrying about what will be. And I shall eat dessert every single day (if I feel like it).So getting old isn’t as bad as you may think.
