10 Veterans Benefits You May Not Know About Many veterans know about the basic health care and education benefits available to them through the Department of Veterans Affairs: Tricare and the GI Bill. While these benefits alone are substantial, numerous other programs help provide more benefits to veterans and their families. Even within the health care and education programs are little-known benefits to improve the lives of veterans and help ease the financial burden of medical care or other expenses. Here are 10 veterans benefits you haven’t heard about that all veterans should see if they qualify for. By MilitaryBenefits

Long-term Care Long-term care is expensive, but often necessary to provide care for aging relatives. Through the Aid and Attendance program, many veterans are eligible to receive money to cover the cost of nursing homes, assisted living programs and other long-term care options. With the ability for couples to receive up to $25,020 a year, the Aid & Attendance benefit will help take care of a significant portion of long-term care costs. Surviving spouses of veterans are also eligible to receive up to $13,560 a year to cover their longterm care costs.

Caregiver Support Should you choose to take care of an ailing Veteran at home, the Department of Veterans Affairs offers acaregiver support program. While this program does not offer any monetary support to caregivers, they are provided with a free support line and a caregiver support coordinator to help navigate military benefits and the stress of care giving.

Death Benefits When a veteran dies, families have a few unique benefits available to them. A U.S. flag may be requested to drape over the casket and

who work in the offices have expertise working with the complicated nature of militaryrelated tax issues.

Life Insurance Many veterans have trouble obtaining traditional life insurance, particularly if they sustained an injury during their time of service. Through the Servicemembers’ and Veterans’ Group Life Insurance program, veterans may receive up to $400,000 in life insurance. This program also offers competitive premium rates.

Mortgage Help Veterans having trouble making their mortgage payments are eligible for repayment assistance through the Department of Veterans Affairs. Options for help include special repayment plans, loan forbearance and loan modification programs. Additional benefits are available for veterans with VA loans and for homeless veterans.

VA Foreclosures families may request a Presidential Memorial Certificate to honor the deceased loved ones service. The Department of Veterans Affairs also provides free headstones or grave markers.

Non-College Degree Programs/Certificates In addition to receiving credits to use towards a college degree, the GI Bill is available for training certification courses or other vocational training programs such as HVAC repair, truck driving, emergency medical training, and barber/beautician school. This benefit will work well for veterans who wish to change careers or pursue a career path that does not require a college degree. Other

non-college degree programs are available through the VET TEC program which offers “accelerated training in coding bootcamps” or similar information science programs, software training, etc. Lastly, there are several free it certifications available to veterans. Transferring GI Bill® Credits Unused credits through the GI Bill may be transferred to spouses and dependents of veterans. There are service limits required to transfer the benefits.

Free Tax Preparation Veterans and their family have access to free tax preparation services through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance offices on military bases. The individuals

The VA maintains a list of homes serviced by VA loans that have gone into foreclosures. Veterans have the ability to search the list of VA acquired properties and purchase homes at a discount. You do not have to be a veteran to search the properties, but all properties qualify for VA financing.

American Corporate Partners

American Corporate Partners connects veterans with top companies to help them obtain a job after their time of service. Along with being connected to job opportunities, veterans have the opportunity to receive one-onone mentoring and other career development services. August 1, 2020 3

MLB NOW Whether legitimate championship contenders exist beyond them or not, there is a clear line of demarcation between the NBA’s top three teams and the rest of the field. unforeseeable circumstances. Without home-court advantage and after four months off, every team is vulnerable. That includes the three juggernauts. So who is positioned to exploit them? While predicting the changes in Orlando would be premature, based on what we saw before the season shut down, we can at least use stylistic and statistical indicators to suggest who might have the best shot. Aside from one another, these are the worst possible matchups for the three best teams in basketball in the postseason.

Speaking in an interview with TMZ Sports about his women’s football X League, Ditka was asked about the resurgence of peaceful protests from athletes during the national anthem - MLB, the WNBA, NWSL, and MLS have all had players protesting during the anthem since restarting. “If you can’t respect our national anthem, get the hell out of the country. That’s the way I feel. Of course, I’m old fashioned. So, I’m only going to say what I feel … You don’t protest against the flag, and you don’t protest against this country who’s given you the opportunities to make a living playing a sport that you never thought would happen. So, I don’t want to hear all the crap.” Of course, just as it has been pointed out repeatedly, the athletes are not protesting

OUT NUMBERED

There’s no question that Pres. Trump is out numbered by his political opposition but Trump’s a “Street Fighter “ not a politician like his pundits and he relishes the fact that the odds are against him. Everyone ..both sides .. are saying that the 2020 election will be a “base” election and who ever has the largest and staunches base will be the winner. Reference how many times everyone predicted Trump’s certain demise for some stupid thing he’s said or done. But when you come right down to it, every election is a “base” election, who can turn out their base supporters, and hopefully snag a share of the ever dwindling pool of true “independent” or “undecided” voters and 2020 will be no different. Don’t believe the poles, they are all biased and remember the poles in the 2016 election gave Trump no chance ..so much for poles.! There’s no question that Corona virus has hurt Trumps chances but on the the other hand the rioting ,looting and violence has hurt the Dems. and Biden as well. What happened to George Floyd was sickening and everyone ..no matter your color ..should not have suffered what that poor soul went through ! ! ! My opinion of the growing crime rate and murders in our larger cities ..plus the anti-sentiment against our police forces will push the “Silent Majority “ further to the right and even the majority of people of all colors in these large cities want more law enforcement not less. There’s no question that times have changed more in these last three plus years than ever before.. Everyone realize change is inevitable but will the changes this time destroy the greatness of America and what we have meant to the world ..only time will tell.. Richard Matz / Publisher

JUST FOR LAUGHS didn’t move. Then the farmer hollered, “Pull, Buster, pull!” Buddy didn’t respond.

A GUY WALKS INTO A BAR A guy walks into a bar and says, “If I show you something you’ve never seen before will you give me a free drink?” The bartender thought he had nothing to lose so he said, “ sure.”

“I have a genie” says the dude, “I have one wish left...do you want it?”

Once more the farmer commanded, “Pull, Coco, pull!” Nothing. Then the farmer nonchalantly said, “Pull, Buddy, pull!” And the mule easily dragged the car out of the ditch. The motorist was most appreciative and very curious. He asked the farmer why he called his mule by the wrong name three times. The farmer said, “Oh, Buddy is blind and if he thought he was the only ass pulling, he wouldn’t even try!”

“YES” said the bar tender. The guy thinks about it and says, “BE CAREFUL... He’s hard of hearing.”

CAREER CHANGE

The dude pulls out a ten inch pianist playing a piano. The bar tender was amazed and slid him 2 drinks. “Where did you get the 10 inch pianist from? “The bartender asked still amazed.

“I wish for a million Bucks!” Said the bartender and suddenly 1,000,000 ducks appeared. “I wished bucks not ducks!” the bartender screamed. Then the guy says “You don’t think I wished for a ten inch pianist do you?”

A little old man shuffled slowly into an ice cream parlor and pulled himself slowly, painfully, up onto a stool… After catching his breath, he ordered a banana split. The waitress asked kindly, ‘Crushed nuts?’ ‘No,’ he replied, ‘Arthritis.’

A man is dining in a fancy restaurant and there is a gorgeous redhead sitting at the next table. He has been checking her out since he sat down, but lacks the nerve to talk with her. Suddenly she sneezes, and her glass eye comes flying out of its socket towards the man. He reflexively reaches out, grabs it out of the air, and hands it back. Oh my, I am so sorry, “ the woman says as she pops her eye back in place. “Let me buy your dinner to make it up to you, “ she says. They enjoy a wonderful dinner

together, and afterwards they go to the theater followed by drinks. They talk, they laugh, she shares her deepest dreams and he shares his. She listens. After paying for everything, she asks him if he would like to come to her place for a nightcap and stay for breakfast. They had a wonderful, wonderful time. The next morning, she cooks a gourmet meal with all the trimmings. The guy is amazed! ! Everything had been SO incredible! !! ! “You know, “ he said, “you are the perfect woman. Are you this nice to every guy you meet? “ “No, “ she replies… “”You happened to catch my eye.”

A gynecologist was getting sick of his job and decided that he needed a career change. He’d always enjoyed tinkering with engines so he thought he’d become a mechanic. So he went along to mechanics school and the final test was to strip the engine completely and reassemble it obviously back into perfect working order. So our gynecologist friend did the test and anxiously awaited the result. The day he received the results he got quite a surprise, he got 150%! He quickly phoned the instructor and queried the mark. The instructor said “no no that’s right. First I gave you 50% for stripping down the engine a very thorough job. Next I gave you 50% for reassembling it a fantastic job really, and then I gave you a 50% bonus for doing it all through the muffler.”

who have kept their secret love children away from the media. And sometimes, the kids are just as baffled as the rest of us! It wasn’t until she was elevenyears old that Liv Tyler found out she was the biological daughter of Aerosmith front man Steven Tyler. Her mother was young when she gave birth to Liv, and the actress said there was a “bit of confusion” about where she came from for most of her life. She was forced to put the pieces of the puzzle together herself when she could no longer ignore the resemblance she had to the singer. While attending his concert, Liv took a glance at Steve’s daughter Mia, her half-sister who was born 17 months after her, and said it was “literally like looking at my twin.”[10] Liv looked at her mom, and her mom had tears in her eyes. That’s when she finally realized she was the love child of a rock star.
