What happened in 1951? Unemployment dipped to 3.3% in the US and new roads were built to take the ever increasing numbers of cars including the New Jersey Turnpike. Children were given more than any other time in previous history with guitar lessons and sets of Encyclopedias to improve their minds . The average family income was $3,700 per year and people had money to spend so cars became more luxurious and had more powerful engines with options for two tone paint, during this time things like turn signals were still an extra and most drivers still used hand signals

to tell other drivers which way they were turning. Television continued to grow with popular programmes like “I Love Lucy” and the first tests for Color Television Pictures were broadcast from Empire State Building on June 25th . Europe continued to export many cars to the US including Volkswagen’s and Austin’s.

By Art Garcia (Jr) Following their devastating 35-32 overtime loss to the Las Vegas Raiders, the Chargers front office head into the offseason sporting one of the best salary cap situations among the 32 teams heading into the 2022 NFL season. While addressing the media during his season-ending press conference, head coach Brandon Staley said improving the team’s defensive front will be a main priority over the offseason. With the NFL Draft just a few months away, we will profile a few college prospects and free agents at positions of need the Chargers could possibly add to the team. Based on Staley’s comments, here is a glance at a few defensive linemen some NFL analysts have the Chargers selecting with the 17th overall pick in the draft. In his first mock of the 2022 NFL Draft, Pro Football Network’s Oliver Hodgkinson has the Chargers taking Texas A&M defensive lineman DeMarvin Leal.

The Military Press Newspaper February 1, 2022 www.militarypress.com

“Texas A&M’s DeMarvin Leal is a versatile defensive lineman who is equally adept at wreaking havoc off the edge or at the interior,” said Hodgkinson. “A highly-rated prospect, he would be a steal with the 17th pick.” A semifinalist for the Chuck Bednarik Award (the nation’s top defensive player), the 6’4, 290-pound Leal produced 58 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks in his final year with the Aggies. His ability to play both inside and outside on the edge would enable Joey Bosa to move around the defensive front to prevent opposing offenses from keying on him. ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. has the Chargers bolstering their defensive interior by selecting defensive tackle Jordan Davis

out of Georgia. “The Chargers again struggled against the run in 2021, an issue that has plagued them for years,” says Kiper. “Just go back to their 2018 divisional-round playoff game against the Patriots, when they were dominated up front. They allowed 4.8 yards per carry this season, which ranked 28th in the NFL. With Linval Joseph hitting free agency, there is a massive hole in the middle of their defensive line.” Kiper believes the 6’6, 340-pound Davis is the perfect fit for a 3-4 defense and says he is more than just a two-down player which many see him as. Davis finished his senior year with 32 total tackles, five tackles for loss, and two sacks for the national champion Bulldogs. Dan Brugler (The Atlantic) pens Alabama’s defensive tackle Phidarian Mathis at pick No. 48 for the Chargers in the second round. The 6’4, 312-pound Mathis is the type of impact player the

Chargers need at the defensive interior. Mathis excelled in his final two years by producing 84 tackles, 17 tackles for loss and 10.5 sacks. The Endzone: Per SPOTRAC, the Chargers’ $75.2 million cap space available for the 2022 season is the second-most in the NFL. Currently, the Chargers have some key players among the 20 unrestricted in-house free agents they need to make a decision on. Led by receiver Mike Williams, other notable names include DT Linval Joseph, CB Chris Harris, EDGE Uchenna Nwosu, DT Justin Jones, LB Kyzer White, DT Christian Covington and WR Jaylen Guyton. One player who is likely to be let go is 11-year veteran RT Bryan Bulaga. Signed to a three-year, $30-million contract in 2020, injuries has limited the 32-year-old to playing in just 11 out of 33 games. Another possible cap casualty could be Joseph, who at 33-years-old is also an 11-year veteran.

Boy Selling Fish A boy is selling fish on a corner. To get his customers’ attention, he is yelling, “Dam fish for sale! Get your dam fish here!” A pastor hears this and asks, “Why are you calling them ‘dam fish.’” The boy responds, “Because I caught these fish at the local dam.” The pastor buys a couple fish, takes them home to his wife, and asks her to cook the dam fish. The wife responds surprised, “I didn’t know it was acceptable for a preacher to speak that way.” He explains to her why they are dam fish. Later at the dinner table, he asks his son to pass the dam fish. He responds, “That’s the spirit, Dad! Now pass the f n potatoes!”

book for a gorilla removal service until he finds one. “Is it a boy or girl Gorilla?” the service guy asks. “Boy,” is the man’s response. “Oh yeah, I can do it. I’ll be right there”, says the service guy. An hour later the service guy shows up with a stick, a Chihuahua, a shotgun, and a pair of handcuffs. He then gives the man some instructions: “Now, I’m going to climb this tree and poke the gorilla with the stick until he falls. When he does, the trained Chihuahua will bite the gorilla’s testicles off. The gorilla will then cross his hands to protect himself and allow you to put the handcuffs on him.” The man asks, “What do I do with the shotgun?” The service guy replies, “If I fall out of the tree before the gorilla, shoot the Chihuahua.”

Late Night Burglar Late one night a burglar broke into a house and while he was sneaking around he heard a voice say, “Jesús is watching you.” He looked around and saw nothing. He kept on creeping and again heard, “Jesús is watching you.” In a dark corner, he saw a cage with a parrot inside. The burglar asked the parrot, “Was it you who said Jesús is watching me” The parrot replied, “Yes.” Relieved, the burglar asked, “What is your name?” The

Papa mole poked his head out of the hole and said, “Mmmm, I smell sausage!” Momma mole poked her head outside the hole and said, “Mmmm, I smell pancakes!” Baby mole tried to stick his head outside but couldn’t because of the two bigger moles. Three Trees And A Woodpecker Two tall trees, a birch and a beech, are growing in the woods. A small tree begins to grow between them, and the beech says to the birch, “Is that a son of a beech or a son of a birch?” The birch says he cannot tell, but just then a woodpecker lands on the sapling. The birch says, “Woodpecker, you are a tree expert. Can you tell if that is a son of a beech or a son of a birch?” The woodpecker takes a taste of the small tree and replies, “It is neither a son of a beech nor a son of a birch, It is, however, the best piece of ash I have ever poked my pecker into.

Two Guys Walking Two guys are walking through a game park & they come across a lion that has not eaten for days. The lion starts chasing the two men. They run as fast as they can and the one guy starts getting tired and decides to say a prayer, “Please turn this lion into a Christian, Lord.” He looks to see if the lion is still chasing and he sees the lion on its knees. A Wealthy Old Lady A wealthy old lady decides to go on a photo safari in Africa, taking her poodle along for company. One day the poodle starts chasing butterflies and before long, discovers that he’s lost. Wandering about, he notices a hungry-looking leopard heading rapidly in his direction. The poodle thinks, “Uh, oh!” Noticing some bones on the ground close by, he immediately settles down to chew on the bones with his back to the approaching cat. Just as the leopard is about to leap, the poodle exclaims loudly, “Damn , that was one delicious leopard! I wonder if there are any more around here?” Hearing this, the leopard halts his attack in midstrike, a look of terror comes over him and he slinks away into the trees. “Whew!” says the leopard. “That was close! That poodle nearly had me!” Meanwhile, a monkey who had been watching the whole scene from a nearby tree, figures he can put this knowledge to good use and trade it for protection from the leopard. So off he goes, but the poodle sees him heading after the leopard with great speed, and figures that something must be up. The monkey soon catches up with the leopard, spills the beans and strikes a deal for himself with the leopard. The leopard is furious at being made a fool of and says, “Here, monkey, hop on my back so you can watch me chew that poodle to bits!” Now, the poodle sees the leopard coming with the monkey on his back and thinks, “What am I going to do now?” but instead of running, the dog sits down with his back to his attackers, pretending he hasn’t seen them yet, and waits until they get just close enough to hear. “Where’s that damn monkey?” the poodle says. “I sent him off an hour ago to bring me another leopard!
