Welcome to Barbados
Thanks
to a year round climate of near perfect temperatures, a salubrious natural environment and a safe, tolerant and harmonious society, Barbados has become one of the world’s most aspirational destinations. For an island of just 166 sq. miles Barbados offers a refreshing mix that goes beyond sun, sea and sand. Scratch the surface and discover a vibrant culture and fascinating heritage that has even earned us a UNESCO World Heritage Inscription.

declared Historic Bridgetown and its Garrison a World Heritage property. Barbados, the birthplace of rum, was one of the first economies to produce sugar and its ‘spirited’ by-product around 1640. Today there is a rich fusion of African and British colonial heritage. St. Nicholas Abbey, open to visitors and where they produce single barrel rum, is the third oldest Jacobean house in the Americas. yourself in Barbados’ salubrious climate, as our visitors have done since the seventeenth century when travellers sailed for weeks to ‘take the airs and waters’. In 1751, George Washington, aged 19, brought his ailing brother Lawrence and rented accommodation in the historic Garrison area in Bridgetown, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Barbados is, by very nature, a health haven, and still has that almost magical effect on people’s sense of well being with its year round sunshine and sea breezes. Several top notch spas offer the most luxurious ways to pamper yourself, and some therapists provide a mobile spa service right to your villa or hotel. Barbados is also home to several specialist medical facilities such as the Barbados Fertility Centre, which boasts one of the highest success rates in the world. The primary health care facility, the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, and private clinics and wellness centres provide very high quality all encompassing health care.
