declared Historic Bridgetown and its Garrison a World Heritage property. You can enjoy visits to the oldest synagogue in the western hemisphere, the third oldest parliament in the British Commonwealth, the home where America’s founding father, George Washington, stayed in 1751 at the impressionable age of 19, a well preserved Garrison that was the largest British military facility in the Caribbean, and 11 state-of-the-art museum attractions. Barbados, the birthplace of rum, was one of the first economies to produce sugar and its ‘spirited’ by-product around 1640. Today there is a rich fusion of African and British colonial heritage. St. Nicholas Abbey, open to visitors and where they produce single barrel rum, is the third oldest Jacobean house in the Americas.
